I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but when it comes to Lorelei James's "Rough Rider" series, the lady can do no wrong! If you enjoy some hot romance featuring sexy, lovable cowboys who sometimes need some taming from the women in their lives, then this series is a no-brainer! I just love the rowdy McKay boys and their West cousins and the whole big, boisterous, nosy family, but I think (so far) Kade McKay has to be my favorite hero of the bunch. He's just a wonderful combination of beta/alpha hero, that he gives even Elec Monroe (from Flat-Out Sexy) a run for his money for perfect husband material! My only question is, why did it take Skylar Ellison (the heroine) so darn long to figure that out?

I'm not going to go into a long summation of the plot, except to say that businesswoman Sky and cattle rancher Kade shared a promising past, but their relationship fell apart because of a sin of omisssion. A baby was conceived following a wild coupling in Kade's pickup in a parking lot(!), but Sky never told Kade about being pregnant. Upset with the breakup of his relationship, Kade goes off to work in some out-of-the-way part of his family's ranch where he can't be reached. A year later he's back in town and is floored by the discovery that he's a father. He's thrilled with the idea of being a dad and he has no intention of walking away and insists on moving in with Sky and the baby. He wants to marry Sky but she keeps telling him 'no'. (She thinks the only reason he wants to marry is because of the baby.) Will Sky forgive him for his past slip up and accept him back into her (and the baby's) life or turn her back on the best thing that could ever happen to her? Will Sky be able to give up some of her hard won control when it comes to decisions involving her life and her business or will she let her past failed relationship come between her future with Kade?

Let me say a few words about sweet Kade McKay...I loved this guy! I already figured he was a keeper after reading about him in the previous books. Although he definitely had an alpha side to him (in the bedroom), he was no way as domineering as say maybe his cousin Colby from Long Hard Ride.:) This guy was honest (okay, there was that sin of omission...), thoughtful, protective, wonderful with his baby daughter, had an even temperment, was a fantastic lover, and was sexy as all get-out. You could just see that he worshipped Skylar and the baby, so why did it take her so long to see it? Skylar should have hog tied him and never let him get away! She did have some problems from her past, and the author does a good job explaining and justifying Skylar's actions and her need to be in control of everyhting. Frankly I was amazed when Skylar let Kade take control in the bedroom, but the girl was no dummy-- she knew a good idea when she heard one. Kade did have a slightly kinky side (after all, he's a McKay) but he never did anything that Skylar wasn't on board with, never did anything mean or degrading or humiliating. Everything he did was for her pleasure and was done with respect and love.

Being a "Rough Riders" story, there were plenty of hot sex scenes (had to laugh at Kade's "nekkid rule"), but in no way did they get in the way of the story. Plenty of steamy encounters, including one outside in the rain, the obligatory shower sex, the hay field, the camper/ trailer, and of course, the four poster bed sex, where the title of the book comes into play. Each one was more emotional than the next, as the reader can feel that Kade and Sky are forging not just a physical bond, but an intimate, emotional connection as well. Some true sigh-worthy moments in this book.

Of course it wouldn't be a romance book unless there were some choppy waters to navigate too, and Sky and Kade do have a big argument near the end that tests their relationship. I was glad to see Sky swallow her stubborn pride and reach out to Kade and show her love for him. Of course, Kade being Kade, he had his own little proof-of-love surprise for Sky, and yes, that had me tearing up...

What else can I say? Another winner from Lorelei James, not that I'm surprised. This lady has clearly found the formula for creating an erotic romance with enough spice, enough plot, and likable characters you'll be rooting for. Not quite as good as my favorite, Cowgirl Up and Ride, but very, verrry close. 5 stars!

P.S.: A word of advice--do yourself a favor and go to the author's website and print up the McKay/West family tree found there. It makes the reading a whole lot easier, especially when the huge family meets up at various functions. At one point my head was spinning trying to keep track of who was who, but once I had that flowchart by my side, it was smooth sailing.:)

Warning: This story contains explicit language, explicit sex including oral and one anal scene, and some light bondage (a little rope play). Not for the faint of heart.

5+ stars – Contemporary/Western Romance/Erotica/BDSM

Boy Howdy, Lord Have Mercy...There’s a sexy-as-sin cowboy back in town ladies, and his name’s Kade McKay! When it comes to the wildly erotic and fabulously fun Rough Riders series, I swear that Lorelei James can do no wrong. Tied Up, Tied Down is another smokin’ hot winner and my very favorite book of the series so far.

Cowboy Kade McKay exemplifies the perfect combination and balance of all-around sweet, good guy character with potently sexy, alpha dominating bedroom demeanor. He’s absolutely drool-worthy, swoon-worthy, and just flat-out every other kind of worthy! Kade’s got an official place on my very own contemporary romance “stud mantel hall of fame”, right alongside yummy heroes like Flat-Out Sexy’s Elec Monroe, Smooth Talking Stranger’s Jack Travis, Gone Too Far’s Sam Starrett, Talk Me Down’s Ben Lawson, Virgin River’s Jack Sheridan, and Sugar Daddy’s Gage Travis.

It’s a highly enjoyable, decadently erotic, and pleasurably sweet romantic read! If you love sexy, tender cowboys, feisty, headstrong heroines, and lots and lots of raunchy nekkid fun and wickedly hot sex, then this one’s a perfect pick! I give it big 5 stars!

Opening Line: "Skylar Ellison hated being naked in public"

Giddy-Up, another smoking hot read from Lorelei James’s Roughrider series. This is book 4 and as usual theres all kinds of hot and sexy lovemakin goin on. Its also been tied together again with an awesome story; encompassing ranch life, love, heartache, the occasional dust up and of course family. You know real life kinda stuff. I’m finding this series seriously addictive and almost impossible to put down. It seems I’ve fallen hard for those wild, sexy, and charming MacKay boys, even if most of the time I can’t keep their names straight. Now all I need is a blue-eyed/black haired cowboy of my very own to play with. I’ve also got to stop talking like I’m from Wyoming Y’all because I live in Canada and my family thinks I’ve lost it.

We first met Kade and Skylar in Cowgirl Up and Ride where they had several dates and an unprotected romp in the back of a pick-up before goin their separate ways. 12 months later cattle rancher Kade McKay returns to town only to learn that he’s a daddy. Thing is though he wants to be a dad. Never mind stepping up to the plate Kade runs, embracing his new daddy status with pure delight. Given half a chance he’d also like to be a husband but independent business woman Skylar Ellison has some trust issues and won’t give an inch despite his constant marriage proposals. She’s also pretty sure he’s just asking because of the baby.

Within days Kade and Skylar move in together, under the pretence that they’ll live platonically, just sharing in the parenting duties. (Yeah right) Anyways, Kade agrees to play by her rules long enough for Skylar to see that he’s in this for the long haul. (He might love her a bit too) Since this is a Roughriders book the arrangement lasts like one chapter before desire takes over. At first their sex life is perfunctory however once Kade convinces Skylar that sex really is better with the lights on and not in the missionary position (or even indoors for that matter) things evolve to a whole new level of passion. Kade ultimately takes complete control in the bedroom; instilling the “Nekkid rule” and making quick use of some ropes, leaving Skylar in an unfamiliar ‘sub’ position but very satisfied. However nothing worth having ever comes easy. And just because Skylar’s given her body to Kade doesn’t mean she’s going to hand him the reins to her heart too. Just how much one sided lovin will this cowboy take before he finally hit’s the dusty trail?

Kade is just lovely as our cowboy daddy, he’s sweet, honest and hardworking (plus he likes a girl with curves) and in all honesty Skylar doesn’t deserve him. Of course theres a whole lot of other stuff going on here too and fans of the series won’t be disappointed. Cheers

What's sexier than a hot man and his baby?? Seriously now tho, they are catnip for a girl like me.
This book had plenty of Kade and baby Eliza moments that I swooned over. Loved it so much.
Oh and there was Skyler there too, she wasn't all bad, but I didn't care much for her tbh when all the spotlight was taken by the fine male specimen Kade was. Another good addition for this series and of course the smut is still spot on!

Now take a look at this pic and tell me if your panties didnt just melt🤤🤤🙃 You are Welcome!

Fourth book in Lorelei James' Rough Rider series. And it's a good one, though not my favorite of the series...I think the first book is still my favorite.

Tied Up, Tied Down picks up on a storyline that started in the previous book, Cowgirl Up and Ride, where Kade McKay got involved with Skylar Ellison. Skylar had gone on a date with Kade's twin brother Kane and he deserted her. So when she sees Kade on the street, she thinks it's Kane and verbally accosts him. For whatever reason, Kade plays along, then apologizes and asks Sky out, never telling her who he really is. Which wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that he falls for her. Right after they share a steamy interlude in his truck, Sky finds out the truth and tells him to get out of her life.

Kade, hurting from a family tragedy and Sky's rejection, takes a job working the family's remote part of the ranch for a year where he has very little communication with everyone. So when Sky tries to get a hold of him to tell him she's pregnant, she's told he's gone. It's not until Kade returns and baby Eliza is 3 months old that he finds out the truth. And immediately sets about making things right. He convinces Sky to let him move in with her and help take care of Eliza. Being a father comes naturally to him, but getting through Sky's defenses...well, that's a bit tougher. Kade finally realizes that he needs to take control of their bedroom life in order to get Sky to give him a chance. But though he gets her to submit sexually, winning her heart and trust is another thing all together.

For me, this book had a bit of a different vibe than the other books in the series, especially compared to Long Hard Ride. This one had a little more of a typical romance feel to it...well, except for the sex, cuz that was definitely hotter than normal. But in general, this book was a bit more home and family than the others in the series.

Which wasn't a bad thing, just different. It does take away some of the 'Wild McKays' aspect...there's none of the outthere craziness that's in the other books. So you have to shift your expectations a little bit before reading so you don't go in expecting menages, group sex, and the like. This is very much a one-on-one story.

I enjoyed reading about Kade, though, and how quickly he bonded with baby Eliza. It was very sweet and tender. Sky is a little bit of a hardass, but she's still likable. Their romance worked well in the story.

There is a bit of a dominance/submission aspect to the story, but it's kinda light-hearted. Kade takes control in the bedroom, giving orders and whatnot, but there's no humiliation or serious force. It's mostly him pushing Sky's boundaries. And there is some bondage - rope play - but again, it's on the light-hearted side...more of a playful feel than serious bondage.

I also liked catching up with all the other McKays and Wests. They're such a fun bunch. And we finally get to me Cam! I think he's going to be an interesting one to read about. But India (Sky's sister) is the one I really can't wait to read about...which I won't have to wait long for. She (and Cord) are the H/H of book 6, Branded As Trouble. Definitely looking forward to seeing those two hook up.

But all in all, this was a good book. It's a little different in tone than the previous three books - which, hey, you wouldn't want all the books to be the same - but it's an enjoyable erotic romance. I think those of you reading this series will like it. Just don't go in expecting some of the wild, crazy scenes that are in the previous books.

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex, explicit language, anal sex, some exhibitionism, light bondage, light dominance/submission

⚠️ I rated this three stars back in the day (don’t remember why) but the only thing I do remember is that the hero pretended to be his twin brother to screw the heroine (she had been dating his bro) and let her believe it for weeks. She found out, dumped him, realized she was pregnant and couldn’t find him for a year. These set ups… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tied Up, Tied Down is definitely my favorite Rough Riders book so far. This one was not at all like the previous three because this one, while still being erotica, actually seemed to focus more on the romance. It focused on the relationship between Kade McKay and Skylar Ellison. You got to see them grow as people, individually but also together; you got to see them struggle to be family not just for themselves but for their precious baby girl while still trying to come to terms with their feelings for each other. Another thing I loved about this book was the fact that Kade was the one who was in love with Skylar throughout the whole story. Most of the time it's the other way around and I really enjoyed seeing Kade love her so much while Sky struggled to realize that she loved Kade and that she had to give herself over to that love or else she'd never be completely happy.

I want Kade. I want to marry him, to have his babies, to be tied up so he can have his wicked way with me. Whatever. I just want him. He was as sweet as pie and pretty much the cutest thing ever. I absolutely adored seeing him with Eliza, knowing how much he wanted a family and kids of his own. The fact that he spent so much time with her and didn't mind doing all the dirty work that comes with having a baby probably made me fall for him even more. He's, like, the perfect man! Also, I loved that he had a dominant streak but wasn't an utter jackass about it, like Colby, Carter, and hell even Cord were in their books. While he was completely intense about it, Kade didn't hurt Sky in any way and he even let her take the reins sometimes. Like I said, I want him. Please. Pretty please with a cherry on top of me.

I really liked Skylar, too, and I loved seeing her grow throughout the book with the help of Kade, Eliza, and Indy. I think that she was the person who needed to grow the most, especially within her relationship with Kade and it was interesting to see her transformation. Obviously she didn't change completely but it was enough to make it believable that she'd actually grown.

Colt, my adorable Colt...I love him even more. And I love my wonderful Cam even more too. I was very excited when Cam showed up at the family gathering. I loved that Cam and Colt, and their other cousins, protected Kade when that jackass was beating him up. I also liked seeing the transformation in Kane, even though I think it's ridiculous that he wants to be called "Buck" now. Silly man.

So, like I said, this book is definitely my favorite Rough Riders book so far, but I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I particularly look forward to rereading Branded As Trouble since I know who the hell everyone is now and Shoulda Been A Cowboy about my beloved Cam.

I loved this book as much as the others but was only able to give it 4 stars simply because I wanted to punch Skylar in the face!!! I mean seriously, Kade McKay is about as perfect as a man can get. He cooks, cleans, gets up in the night with the baby, is smokin' hot and has just enough sexual kink to get my blood boiling, and this is all after he has worked the ranch all day, IMO it takes Skylar WWWWWWWAAAAAAAAYYYY to long to realize how awesome he is. Towards the end of the book, Kade tells India that he would like someone to fight for him for once and I AGREE!! Obviously this book, like the others has a HEA, but I was a bit exhausted by the time we got there!!! All that said, this is another smokin' hot read in this series with lots of nekkid cowboy action!!

From back of book:

Warning: this book contains no holes barred kinky sex scenes, wicked rope play, blunt language, and yowza! lots of hot cowboy nekkidness.

This is the second book I've read in the Rough Riders series and, luckily for me, they don't seem to need to be read in order so far. I really enjoyed the book, both the erotic aspect and the touching story behind it but I still think it's my least favourite of the two I've read (the other being Rode Hard, Put Up Wet). I thought it was hot and I was really interested in the subplots but the characters didn't interest me quite as much as they did in the other novel.

The story is about Skylar - an independent businesswoman - and Kade who is another of Lorelei James' smoking hot Mckay cowboys. At the start we learn that Kade pretended to be his twin brother Kane (damn confusing, by the way) and proceeded to seduce Skylar into his bed (well, his car actually). What this leads to is a very pissed off and - unbeknownst to Kade - pregnant Skylar. Kade runs away to lick his wounds completely unaware that he is soon to be a father... and it isn't until a year later that he returns to discover his three month old daughter and her still sexy mama.

Just so you know, ^these are not spoilers^, you can read all this information on the back of the book, I'm just giving a brief overview and, in fact, all of this happens in the first two chapters. The rest of the novel is about the development of Skylar and Kade's relationship from reluctant (but not really) parenting partners to lovers. I like how Lorelei James doesn't feel the need to create weak, whiny female characters to go with her alpha males. All her characters have extremely dominating personalities and it makes for a lot of heat and drama.

My problem with this novel was some of Kade's actions. I seem to be in disagreement with every other opinion I've read in reviews about Kade. The general consensus is that "he's so sweet", "he's just the right amount of alpha and beta". Well, actually, I hated it when he found out he had a daughter and stormed into the home of the woman he hadn't seen in a year saying "I'm moving in, we're sleeping in the same bed, do not argue". Um, yeah, I think every father has the right to see their kids but that's way out of line. It's also unrealistic. Even someone who likes to be dominated in the bedroom wouldn't get off on a man storming into their house all guns blazing and announcing that a) She now shares her home, and b) She now shares her bed. You'd tell him where he could shove his fatherly rights.

As it happens, these few niggling factors weren't enough to turn me off and Kade fully redeemed himself by the end. I thought it was cute how he made sure he always told Skylar she looked perfect because she was feeling insecure about the excess baby weight. Plus, the way he completely lavished their baby with love and attention was adorable.

So I had some issues, I can't recall the last time I didn't have some kind of issues with a book. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Kade McKay has come back from 12 months to find that he has a 3 month daughter by the Skyler the woman who had brocken up with him a year ago when she found out he was deceiving her. But Kade is determined to get her back, in the 12 months he has been gone he is still just in love with her as when he left, and seeing her with his baby makes him even more adament. But Sky has been burnt before and is reluctant to let him back into her heart.

Kade McKay has pretty much got to be the perfect man. He is sexy as hell, amazing in bed, considerate, not afraid to show affection, great with kids, honest, hardworking, doesn't mind 1 am feedings, funny and dotes on his daughter. The list could go on, I mean seriously PERFECT! I am completely in love with the man! Skyler was pretty good to, and I suppose she deserves this epitome of the male species! She was feisty and intelligent and I loved watching her cave under all the Kade McKay charm.

Although Kade is so far my favourite man in the series (Sorry Cord!) the reason that this book is my favourite in the series is because all though this was no doubt sexy as hell and an erotica, it was also a little bit more aswell. It focused just as much on the emotional connection between Kade and Skylar as it did the physical. I think for that reason I found the sex MUCH hotter in this book then I have in the others. I also liked the prescense of Eliza, and fell even more in love with Kade when I saw what a devoted daddy he was and watched them all grow into a family.

We also saw the rest of the McKay gang and I can't wait to read Cam and Colt's book.

SO THAT'S IT!!! I have found my favorite McKay - Kade(the rest of the McKay/West books will have to work hard at taking that spot away from him)

Kade returns from a year of mental recuperation after a hellish year only to discover that in the year that he's been gone he got himself a 3month old daughter. A baby that was a result of comfort sex in the parking lot of a honky-tonk... tehehehehe

Now Kade must work hard to prove his love and breakthrough the sky high walls that Sky built around her heart.

It was an amzing story with Kade taking to parenthood like fish to water and the serious struggle on his hands with Sky.

LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!

The 5 star rating is all for Kade, I just LOVED him to pieces! Now Skylar on the other hand I had some problems with. She pist me off more than once during this story but in the end redeemed herself. I look forwards to continuing this series with Rough Raw and Ready in the VERY near future.

This is the fifth rough riders book I have read, and all the others have been four and five star reads for me, so I think the fact that I didn't like this one says way more about *me* than about the book or the series (I still plan to read the rest as I love James' voice!). That said, if you are new to the series, I would start with Cowgirl Up and Ride as it's the most "mainstream" and is an easy book to fall in love with. A lot of readers apparently also find Tied Up, Tied Down a great introduction to the series, but the secret baby trope almost never works for me, even under the best of circumstances. Here, Skylar gets pregnant as a result of a one-night stand, calls to tell him (at least she tried!), and is told that he is gone (by his surly twin with whom Skylar doesn't get along with at all). That is the only effort she makes to tell him, despite living in an around populated 90% by people related to him, any one of whom would be happy to relay a message to him.

She goes along on her merry way, has a baby, and then when Kade's mother walks into Skylar's store and sees the baby, she immediately knows a) That it's a McKay baby, b) that it's HER McKay grandbaby as opposed to one of the 9 zillion fertile McKay cousins, and c) that it's Kade's (as opposed to the evil Kane). This despite the fact that the baby is a girl and McKay's don't have girls. Seriously did not like Kade's mama, even without her built-in Baby DNA tester ability. Kade goes to confront Skylar and somehow in the space of seriously less than FIVE MINUTES of talking, he totally assumes the father role and talks Skylar into letting him move in. And then mere hours later, when it's bedtime, she agrees to share a bed with Kade so that he can help with the baby overnight duties.

Um. No. The Rough Riders are supposed to be pure cowboy escapism fantasy, but I just couldn't turn off the Mama part of my brain. She lets a man whom she has had just a few dates with (and never wanted contact with again and intended to never let meet his kid) move into her house? And into her bed? When Walmart has a baby monitor for 10 bucks? Which they later get to allow them to have nookie while the baby sleeps. And as this is a Lorelei James book, they do have a lot of nookie--more than any other parents of a tiny baby I know of.

This is just my own pet peeve here, but Skylar, our vegetarian, hippy, all-natural body products business owner, who is so committed to earth motherhood that she has an onsite daycare, is bottle feeding. Which isn't the end of the world, but it just didn't fit the character at all, and as James has done an awesome job of showing other returning characters nursing, it struck me as a choice made to make it easier for the characters to have no-holds-barred love scenes, to get childcare, and to let Kade help in the night. All of which just reinforces a lot of myths of nursing, and just didn't sit right with me. (And sure, maybe she wasn't able to make it work for her, but a woman like her would have been sad enough about that fact to at least mention it). (Oh and it is possible to have love scenes with a woman who is still breastfeeding--Catherine Anderson's Baby Love is a great example.)

And Skylar is also just darned unlikable. And boring. And Kade, while being an awesome father, is also rather boring when he's not doing cute things like wearing the baby around the ranch and talking to her. His twin brother, Kane, suddenly decided to call himself "Buck" in this book, which while funny, added a whole another layer of confusion to the McKay family name game. This book just didn't click for me at all, but I'm still obsessed with this series, and I really want to read the Colt/Brandt/Kaylee books still. I may skip Kane or save him for last just because I'm not sure if I can love a guy who renames himself "Buck."

Enjoyed this 265 page, trade paperback, set in present day Wyoming. Definitely erotic with smokin' hot scenes between the h/h. I don't understand the whole dominance in the bedroom thing, but went with it for the plot.

Skylar Ellison was the owner/creator of a successful business (creams, lotions, etc). She was used to running her life, her business, taking care of her family--sister, etc. I didn't feel she was too bossy. She was strong as she had to rely on herself.

Kade McKay was a good-looking cowboy whose entire (very large) extended family encompassed almost the entire population of Wyoming (it's not heavily populated--too darn windy--and I've smelt the sage the author mentions in a description). Kade was a super neat guy--unbelievable--but for the book, I went with it. :-)

Liked how the author started with the story, then gave the background info. Excellent story-writing, nicely written, descriptive. Kudos! This was my first by this author.

There was a misconception between Kade and Skylar that caused a 13-month riff. Kade, unsure what to do about it, volunteered to go to a remote place (in Wyoming that is entirely possible!) for a year to test the grazing for cattle...(no comment.). During that time, Skylar finds out she's pregnant with his child. She tries to get in touch with Kade, but no can do, so she does what she's always done. She pulls up her bootstraps and handles things herself. Three months after Eliza is born, Kade returns and finds out he's a father. After the initial shock--quickly--he decides to become a very hands-on dad and moves in with Skylar.

Skylar let Kade move in without much fuss. He goes from moving in to her house to moving in to her bedroom before the first night and she lets him. But they sleep together in her room only because Eliza is there. No messing around--her rules. Several weeks go by and their attraction can no longer be denied. Things heat up and Kade decides he has to have Skylar's complete submission in the bedroom since she "controls" everything else. Whatever. He wasn't that bad and found him to be very sweet.

There was an awful lot of info on Eliza (the baby), Kade's extended family, etc that made up the bulk of the book. There was one minor suspense-like scene that built up, but fizzled. Because of the suspense tease, I was looking for a tad more in the plot, but this was clearly an erotic, modern romance. If you are looking for suspense, look elsewhere.

Many previous/future characters are mentioned--or actually appear--and though I haven't read others it didn't throw me.

I think "Tied Up, Tied Down" might just be my favorite in Lorelei James' Rough Riders series. Yes, there's bondage, but it's so lovingly done and Kade is so careful with Skylar's fears and sexuality that it almost makes me want to grab a lasso myself!!

Skylar is ALWAYS in control. After losing both parents to cancer, she had to deal with an unstable sister who lived a self-destructive life via booze and drugs. At least here sister's clean now, and she and Skylar have both opened businesses in a small town in Wyoming and are doing well. She even had a boyfriend...well, she thought she did. Turned out the man she THOUGHT she was dating...was actually his twin. When she found out, she blew up and he blew outta town and she hasn't seen him since. But he did leave her a surprise...a baby!

Kade McKay is glad to be back home after a year of living on a new, but isolated cattle camp. He's only been back a couple of days when he finds out about his daughter...and sets out to take care of HIS women. Skylar is resistant and afraid, but Kade IS a McKay after all, and he won't let anything stand in his way. He'll use every ounce of caring and love he has, including any sexual tricks he can think of, to tie Skylar and his child to him.

This is one of the only Rough Riders' books that is solely M/F. It's also one of the softer and more touching because Kade doesn't fight his feelings and most of the book is about his thorough seduction of Skylar, both mentally and physically. The sex is still smokin', but the echoes of the love he feels for Skylar are always there. How can you not love that?

There is, of course, ALOT of sex in this book and in 'comes' (heh heh) in a lot of varieties--oral, anal, vaginal, light BDSM, etc. So if graphic descriptions of the above sex acts aren't your thing, don't read the darn book! As for me? I loved it and it already sits on my keeper shelf. This is book four of the Rough Riders series and the next print release "Rough, Raw, and Ready" will be out in September 2009. Those who can't wait for the print versions, can zoom ahead of the 'print' groupies by buying the ebooks already available--at least two more than are available in print :(

Slick's Review posted 3/18/12 on Guilty Pleasures

From the minute Kade McKay burst into a scene in Cowgirl Up and Ride, I was a goner for that man. As much as I adore all the McKay men, for me Kade has always been just a little bit different and his personality reminds me of my husband of almost 25 years. So, when Didi asked if we were interested in reviewing the Rough Riders series, I jumped up and down and shouted “me, me, I want to review Tied Up, Tied Down!” Let me tell you it was a huge sacrifice to have to read this story for something like the 10th time…NOT!

Tied Up, Tied Down is the fourth book in Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series. To date there are twelve Rough Riders books published with four more planned, but Tied Up, Tied Down remains my favorite in the series. I know the title confused a lot of people when this book first came out. Many expected it to have a huge BDSM theme to it. Yes, there is some light bondage but if you want to explore the BDSM theme, read Cowboy Casanova. This book is about Kade McKay and Skylar Ellison who had a brief affair during the third book Cowgirl Up and Ride. Kade does a really stupid thing and Skylar sends him packing. Kade, who is known in his family as Mr. Always Does the Right Thing, is devastated by their break up and volunteers to move north for a year long ranching experiment. The book opens with Skylar finding out she is pregnant after their first and only sexual encounter. Skylar tries (although somewhat half heartedly) to let Kade know about her pregnancy, but doesn’t succeed. Once Kade is home, he is confronted by his mother who has figured out that he’s the father of Skylar’s baby. I love Kimi McKay and the scene in which she confronts Kade makes me love her even more. Kade immediately goes to Skylar and then pretty much tells her that he’s moving in with her and Eliza (their baby) so he can learn how to be a father.

I know many of you are thinking that this is going to be some boring book about a couple and their baby. That is the FARTHEST thing from the truth. Personally, I feel that the sex scenes in this book far surpass those in many of Lorelei’s other books. Maybe it’s because we already know Kade loves Skylar and those emotions are there, maybe it’s because every woman wants to feel they are the center of their man’s universe, or maybe it’s because Kade is the most smokin’ hot specimen of man on earth. There are some off the chart scenes that are guaranteed to melt your panties. My favorites include the scene in the horse trailer, the one in front of the mirror in the hallway, the one in the rain and mud which is followed up by the one in the shower. Whew….I want a cigarette and I don’t even smoke! I dare anyone to read this book and not get hot and bothered.

I’d like to tell you that Kade and Skylar’s relationship is a bed of roses, but the truth of the matter is Skylar is one seriously messed up lady. She has had some major stuff go on in her life including a crappy ex-husband that makes her distrust men in general and also makes it hard for her to let anyone get close to her. As an independent businesswoman, she is strong and in control. Kade, being Kade is a patient guy and he works to break down her defenses and does a pretty decent job of it. Things are going pretty well until Kade confronts and gets into a fight with one of her employee’s husbands and they both say some really hateful things to one another. Kade leaves and talks with his cousins who basically tell him that he’s done everything in his power to make Skylar happy and he needs to let her figure it out and come to him. Thankfully it doesn’t take Skylar long and all is right with the world.

Not only is Tied Up, Tied Down a great love story, it has some mind-boggling love scenes, and a family that you automatically want to be a part of. While I love the story of Kade, Skylar and of course Eliza, this book is about so much more. The interactions of the entire family at the rodeo, at the bar-b-que (Cam’s homecoming…tears to my eyes), and then the scene with all the guys at the Golden Boot is what keeps me coming back for more and more. This book by far gives us the best look into the family dynamics of the McKay/West families and therefore I give it 5 stars. If I could give it more, I would. I love it that much.

That being said, while you can read every one of these books as a stand alone I truly feel you will get more out of them if you read them from the beginning. So start with the first one Long, Hard Ride and don’t let that one scare you off. Keep reading them, you won’t be sorry!

5 Stars! My favorite book of the series…love Kade McKay!! What a man. Lover, father, protector, friend. He is perfect! Now if he can just convince Skylar to marry him, he could be her husband too! Great chemistry and passionate, hot sex! The desire that these two have for each other is undeniable. Yes Skylar, Kade is worth fighting for!! The overall story was terrific with involvement from the entire McKay/West clan and Skylar’s sister India. Again the author gives us sneak peek of what the future holds, as relationships develop and the family forges ahead.

I love me some Kade McKay. He's gotta be the sweetest of these rough and tough ranchers in the Rough Rider series. The romance of Kade and Skylar starts out towards the end of the third book when Skylar mistakes him for his womanizing twin brother Kane. Instead of correcting his identity to her, he plays the part of Kane but makes things right with Skylar....until she finds out he's been lying to her. This is only after a night of crazy unprotected sex..... She dumps him.

Enter this book- she's pregnant and he's taken off to God knows where Wyoming and is unreachable.....For a year! His mother comes into her cosmetics store and one look knows this baby is a McKay...and knows its her grandbaby. When Kade finds out he's a daddy to 3 month old Eliza, he flies over to her house and from day one, wants to do right by Skylar and the baby. He wants to move in, marry her, give her everything she needs. But Skylar has huge walls around her heart. She will let him move in to help with the baby and bond with her but she will not fall for him again.....or can she resist?

This was a bit more tame out of the books in the series so far. They had great chemistry in the bedroom but I would weigh more heavily on the sweetness factor of Kade/Skylar's story than the hot erotic parts of the book. He doesn't hesitate to drop everything and be a great dad. Love this guy! He carried around a bag of potatoes in the house wrapped in a blanket to practice holding a baby without dropping her. Awe! How can Skylar resist that!

This is one I will definitely read again in the future. Kade was so incredibly yummy, sweet, sexy and determined. And reading his interactions with his daughter Eliza? *SWOON*

My only complaint about the book is the heroine's stubbornness and refusing to be Kade's fully until the very end. Have a man ask you to marry him nearly every day, putting up with your hissy fits and your mood swings, being a total dream father to your child...what's NOT to love? When Kade told the heroine's sister that "maybe for once I'd like to feel like I'm worth fighting for" was heartbreaking to read. She didn't deserve him!

Great story. A-

Re-read September 2015

There is nothing hotter than a guy who's good with kids.

And Kade, well, just say he's good with kids. And ropes.

It was sweet, hot and a great installation in the Rough Rider series. They are awesome contemporary romances and on the smutty side too!

I mix and match and read one, and then another and then I go back. There are so many people to keep track off that I'm lost anyway.

What happens when you put together a sexy cowboy who knows his way around ropes, an uptight, control freak businesswoman and a secret baby? One hell of a ride!

Skylar Ellison was the victim of a trick that caused Kade McKay to wish he wasn’t such a dumbass in the first place. But he just couldn’t resist the Sky’s charm any more than he could stop himself from spending one night in her arms.

That one heated moment soon became a baby and with Kade missing in action to take care of some business, Sky raised baby Eliza Belle by herself until she could tell Kade in person that he is the father of her child.

I know for some the secret baby storyline didn’t work for them, but I thought that James did a great job of handling the situation in a way that was believable and true to the characters and their personality. Sky is very much her own woman so it’s not so far a stretch to believe that she would think she is capable of handling a baby on her own. However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her own insecurities. As she comes to terms with her feelings for Kade, she also questions whether Kade’s feelings for her stem from the fact that they have a baby together and Kade is just an honorable man or if he truly loves her. I really enjoyed seeing this part of her.

Kade McKay is a dream. He’s such a sweetheart, doing and saying all the right things. Sometimes the sweetness was laid on a bit thick but who can really complain about perfection?

Spoiler Ahead This was book four in the "Rough Riders" series. Rancher Kade McKay comes home after a year on the range to discover that he is the father of a 3 month old baby girl. Skylar Ellison never intended to get mixed up with Kade but after hooking up with him in the parking lot of a bar she gets a little surprise. Skylar never planned to become an single parent but when she found out that she was pregnant and that Kade has left that's exactly what's happened. When Kade returned, and found out he was a father he is reeling from the shock he wants to be there for his daughter Eliza Belle all the time. He told Sky he is moving in with them, so he could help her raise their daughter. Kade proposed, and she said no so he is waiting for the right time. As they settle in Kade finds himself falling in love with Sky and Eliza more each day. Sky for her part has some major control issues and although Kade has been gentle with he knows that he will have to push her so what does he do he takes control in the bedroom and it was hot. When she meets Kade's family Sky is reminded that she doesn't have one of her own. This was a really good book Sky had to learn to let go. I listen to this book on audio and I really liked the narrator. I am looking forward to listening to book 6 in this series as I am have already read book 5.

Skylar Ellison believes she is dating Kade McKay. When she finds out that it's really Kane McKay the identical brother she feels betrayed and breaks it off. Three month later she finds out she is pregnant. After a half hearted attempt to locate Kane she deceides to have the baby alone. She is a successful business woman and is used to making all her own decisions. After being gone for one year Kane comes back to town to discover he is a father. He moves in with Skylar because he wants to be part of his baby's life. He is a wonderful father, very kind and patient. He does however loose patience with Skylar. She has to always be in control and deceides when they make love and how. He gives her an ultimatum. When it comes to sex he is in control and she will do anything he says. After some soul searching Skylar agrees. This is a very sexy and romantic story. There is some rope play but no humiliation or pain. Just some great bedroom games. It was nice to see Skylar finally accept Kane, to trust him and to let go of past hurts.

Can Lorelei James do any wrong? I think not! because holly nekkid cowboy, this is another hot hot hot book!!!

Kade, hurting from a family tragedy (Dags death) and Sky's rejection after finding out about his lying ways, takes a job working the family's remote part of the ranch for 12 months where he has no communication with anyone. So when Sky tries to get a hold of him to tell him she's pregnant, she's told from Kane he's gone and to try again next summer.

It's not until Kade returns and finds out from his ma that he has a 3 month old that he finds out the truth. He convinces Sky to let him move in with her and help take care of Eliza.

Being a Daddy comes naturally for Kade, but getting through Sky's defenses, that's a bit tougher. Kade finally realizes that he needs to take control of their bedroom life in order to get Sky to give him a chance. But though he gets her to submit sexually, winning her heart and trust is another thing all together.

So if you are someone who loves a sexy, well rounded, tender, smooth talking, drool worthy cowboy..this is for you.
