Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life.

Four caskets. Two bodies.

Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.

Six months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.

Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next door neighbor, one Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also … So. Damn. Grumpy.

Their mission is simple: Let go, start over, don't kill anyone, and pray that nobody wakes the dead.

ABSOLUTELY EPIC!

I'm sitting here stunned, unsure what to write in my review.

No review will do this book justice. This is just a book you have to read. It’s unlike any I have read before.

I've read all of Jewel E. Ann's books and I loved them all. One of the things I love most about her books is that her heroines are always intelligent and strong-willed women.

But this book? It completely blew my mind.

The author says she wanted to push beyond the norm and create something unique. Did she succeed? ABSOLUTELY.

You see, I have a girl crush. Her name is Jillian Knight. Or should I say Jessica Day?

She's one of the most complex, intelligent, mysterious and unpredictable heroines I've read about. A woman with two sides.

On the outside a funny, blunt and sassy woman who doesn’t censor her words. She doesn’t care what others think of her. Sexy and playful with men. Snarky and difficult. A man eater.

On the inside a compassionate, vulnerable and messed-up girl with a tragic past who's desperately trying to find normalcy again and who’s bearing an unforgivable guilt that left a permanent mark on her heart, her conscience and her self-image.

She's one of those heroines who are perfectly imperfect.

I won’t talk about other characters in this book or the plot because this is one of those books you unquestionably have to go in completely blind.

Don’t expect a fast-paced story, it's a slow one. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on but after the 50% mark I was all in and I devoured the second half in one sitting.

And now about that ending...

"I can't take him from them. I want him...but they deserve him."

Shame, shame, on me. I’m so embarrassed to admit that I didn’t jump into this book because I didn't care for a previous book that I read by this author.

description

This suspenseful, sexy, snarky and addicting story line was read straight through. The writing is perfection and the reason for this review being short is simple, I’m jumping directly into the next book.

Know this though, I totally want to be the heroine, Jessica Day/Jillian Knight when I grow up.

“Nothing bled quite like regret."

The blurb sure did pique my curiosity. Although intriguing, it reveals very little. So what did I find out after reading this book?

➦This sexy, dark and funny novel left me pleasantly surprised. The plot was unpredictable, both main and secondary characters were complex and likable, the pace was somewhat slow but kept me in suspense throughout the whole story.

➦Siblings Jillian and Jackson get stripped of their old identities and get a fresh start at life in a quiet community in Nebraska. The reason for their relocation is unknown to us. Jackson embraces his new self, while Jillian is having a hard time letting go of her old life.

Jillian is a very complex and fascinating character. She needs to make a man bleed during sexual intercourse. Throughout the book we find out about her psychological issues and which traumatic event made her the way she is.

❤Jillian has constant flashbacks into the past from which we learn about Luke, the love of her old life. I have to admit that I completely fell in love with Luke too. Meanwhile, in Nebraska... Jillian starts an affair with AJ, her sexy next-door neighbor. With both of them having mental issues, staying in a relationship proves to be rather challenging. Will there be a second chance at love for Jillian?

➦Having finished the book I am left with a lot of questions and I am very eager to continue with this series. I want to know which circumstances brought Jack and Jill to Nebraska and I am secretly hoping to see more of Luke in Jill's life.

➦I highly recommend this series if you enjoy romantic suspense genre. While this book is somewhat dark and contains a tragic story within, it is also full of funny banter and steamy scenes. (third person POV)

"I gave her my love, but you...you took it. You took everything. I never had a choice. You tore into my life...into my heart, wrecking all sense of the man I was before you. Being with you is the best part of my day...every day. You think you're broken, but you're not. And if you were...it wouldn't matter. I love every. Single. Piece of you." ~ Luke

When I started reading this book, I didn't know what to make of it. I would classify this is a sexy dark comedy. I don't think I have ever read a dark comedy and I wasn't really sure if this was going to be my cuppa.

I'm so very happy to report to you, that I really ended up liking this book a lot. This makes me so relieved because I adore Jewel and I have yet to dislike anything I've read by her.

The story begins at a funeral. There are four people being buried. Jessica and Jude's parents, and then Jessica & Jude, themselves!! The kicker is that Jude and Jessica are very much alive! I'm a little fuzzy on the why, but these two end up in the witness protection program. Their father was a DEA agent and the two siblings have been trained in all ways of self defense by top government agencies. They're a pretty kick ass duo.

So they are saying good bye to their old lives in San Francisco, and saying goodbye to Jude & Jessica Day. Jessica is suffering from a tremendous broken heart, because she's also saying goodbye to her love, Luke!! He was once her psychiatrist. She was seeing him because she suffered through a seriously f'd up, traumatic experience when she was a teenager. It has left her a shell of the girl she used to be. She can't get close to any man because she is incapable of letting a man take control and she has the compulsion to make men bleed, either by scratching or biting them.

Now Jessica and Jude, are relocating to Omaha, where they will be known as Jillian and Jackson Knight. They live in a community mainly inhabited by senior citizens. Jackson works as a piano teacher and Jillian sells sex toys at people's houses. Kind of like a kinky tupperware party. She also does the odd job around the neighborhood.

She ends up meeting and becoming extremely attracted to their next door neighbor, AJ. He's a 42 year old Air Force Sergeant, who suffers from PTSD. He's quite sexy but also very surly. Try as he might, he just is unable to resist Jillian. These two are just all kinds of HOT together!!

Honestly, I don't want to say any more about this one. I just gave you all a little bit of background. I really don't want to spoil this for you and I will admit the story started to win me over once I got to the 75% mark. I had a bit of trouble with it but once I got more of the past, I was so very hooked.

I'm going to say it LOUD and say it PROUD, I am TEAM LUKE!!! Can you tell by my collage?? I mean I used David Gandy for the casting! I want Luke and Jessica to be together. I liked AJ, but to me Luke is the one!!

This ended on quite a cliffy. Thank goodness the next book is out!

MY REVIEW: can also be found on my blog:
➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

So this years challenge for myself was reading some of my old books that I'd never gotten around too, this here is one of them. It's been on my ipad collecting dust since release day. So I was beyond glad that I found the time to read this.

Going into this book I didn't know what to expect..But it wasn't long before I fell in love..

Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life. Four caskets. Two bodies.

From this point onwards twin thirty year old siblings Jessica's and Judes life will forever be changed. Months later they arrive in a new destination called 'Peaceful Woods' leaving the world as they knew it behind. Jackson and Jillian are somewhat relatively younger than the other residents, other than forty something AJ their not so friendly neighbour who lived in the unit beside theirs.

Jillian and AJ butted heads as soon as they met. He couldn't work her out.

She looks like one of them superhero girls straight off the movie screen
Aj Had at least a dozen more accurate ones: Black widow, serpent, man -eater, mindfuck, wicked, twisted, deceitful, Satan...

Nothing is what it seems where Jessica and Jude are concerned, they were members of an elite group where they were experts in two areas; combat and survival. These two are such complex characters, with such unpredictable tendencies. Nothing is black and white in their worlds.

Jillian Knight was clearly a hundred ways fucked-up, and the warning sirens blared in AJ's head every time he neared her proximity, but he was deaf to their warning.

Jillian is such a fascinating slightly unhinged character. She needs to make a man bleed during sexual intercourse. She also needs to be in control at all times. Always on top, never on the bottom. Was it only me that thought she was a vampire?? Ok then!!

How could this not be a five star read from me? It ticked ALL my boxes, unique storyline never to be matched, tough as nails heroine, sassy mouthed, sexy as hell, this had me swooning, giggling and falling in love with these characters like no others.

I can't even write up a normal review for this one because my words will not do this book justice, but if you're looking for something a wee bit different then look no further than this book!! Highly recommend!!

DNF @34%, no rating. I fast-forwarded to read the final "highlight". Review posted May 2, 2016

Jackson left to get paint and more alcohol. They both agreed when their new jobs started they would cut back on the booze and act like grownups again instead of college kids during rush week.

When I quit at 34%, I decided to fast-forward and read the ending including the "optional" cliffhanger. Seriously? That's how authors bait their readers into reading an entire trilogy? I also think this story is VERY long-winded. Right in the beginning, the author introduced a fuckton of characters. It was confusing and I didn't know where the story was going. I don't mind flashbacks when they are done right, but the constant switches between present and past and/or Jessica and Jill (and Luke) annoyed me. Most certainly because I wanted to smack the stupid heroine in her face. Good grief. This lead character is supposed to be 30, a grown-ass woman, you know? Unfortunately, she came off as immature and irritating. Boozing it up all the time (with her bro, of course), being annoying in general, flaunting it in every man's face and sexing it up must be life-sustaining these days. Blech. And then Luke was on her mind all the time. One could guess where that would end.

The only character I wanted to know more about was AJ. Though when I read the final "highlight", I made a couple (correct) assumptions which have been confirmed by a friend already. So I'm definitely not going to read the other two installments. What it comes down to is that Jill will Besides, I never cared for Jack and Jill's big secret and why they are so messed up. Another thing that bugged me very much was Jill's idiotic blood fetish. WTF? I thought it was ridiculous that her little "kink" was connected to her

Naturally there was the usual OTT beauty worship. I really get it. I really do. I think, however, authors should tone it down. Less is more, after all.

QUOTES FOR YOUR PERUSAL

The honesty ripped from her gut. They were conditioned as teenagers to show no emotion, to find strength in bravery. But no one could live that way forever. Everyone needed a safe harbor to release their rawest emotions. Jackson was hers.

She bit her lip, missing sexy by about thirty years. It was oddly endearing. Jillian swallowed back her amusement as Greta stumbled over her words unable to keep her eyes on Jackson for more than a few seconds at a time before her face blushed to a cherry Dum Dum.

Her grin crept its way up to her golden eyes.

Jillian stood, smiling as her tongue swept along her lips tasting his blood. It tasted like control. She wasn’t an animal—she was a survivor. It was a ridiculous justification, but it’s all she had.

“Come in, Miss Day.” Jessica peeled her eyes off him and turned to shut the door. “I’d like to come alright,” she mumbled to herself. Turning back to him she smiled.

It was possible the blood “fetish” played a minor part in her one-and-done dating streak.

Jessica forced her gaze up to meet his. “If I wouldn’t have bit you would we have had sex tonight?”

“Jessica! Stop. Now.”
“That’s what I said … every time he’d

“I’ve decided to love AJ.”
“Decided?”
Jillian rolled onto her side facing Jackson with her cheek rested on her folded hands. “Yes. Why not? Right? He’s mature, and good in bed, and he gets me, and he’s good in bed, he’s strong and grumpy, which I find oddly sexy. Oh … did I mention he’s good in bed?”

“You’re thirty years old and just like that you’re making the decision that you don’t want a family?” Jillian tried to roll her eyes but it was hard to do behind heavy eyelids. “That makes no sense coming from my twin brother that doesn’t want children.”
“I never said that.”
“You said you don’t like kids.”
“Misquoting once again. I don’t like other people’s kids. My kids will be awesome.”
“Will be?”
“Yes. The whole slew of them. My wife is going to be so hot I won’t be able to keep my dick out of her. She’ll be knocked-up all the time.”

*** This was everything I hoped it would be.Just brilliant!! ***

This is one of the things I love about this site,if I hadn't read a friend's review of this I probably would never have came across it( thanks Angela! )

The book opens with Jessica and Jude Day watching their own funerals and that of their parents. But the big question of course is why??

Fast forward six months and they have new identities,Jillian and Jackson Knight. They are desperately trying to put their past behind them and start a new life. The story goes from past to present and I was on the edge of my seat desperately wanting to know the mystery surrounding them.

The Characters

I don't think I've ever read a book that had so many likeable characters, from the wonderful gossiping neighbours to the main characters.
Jillian, well I just loved that girl. She's witty, sassy, kickass and straight talking. She collects the mail each day wearing only a bra and panties and her beloved red rain boots giving the men in town palpitations!!
She has issues, though from a traumatic event in her past, she really wants to move on but can't let go of her past and the only man who understood her and the one she had to leave behind,Luke...

Her twin Jackson,a sexy as sin, tattooed ex manwhore is also trying to form a new life and change his ways.God I just loved this man!!

While Jillian is trying to move on,especially from Luke, temptation in the form of a sexy, grumpy neighbour AJ comes her way.He has problems of his own, suffering from PTSD.They start a highly dysfunctional relationship that was fascinating to read.

Humour/Mystery

This is so damn funny at times. The humour mainly provided by Jillian and Jackson.Jillian has no filter and tells it like it is and Jackson's dates with a younger girl were just hilarious!!

The suspense and mystery surrounding the back story had me desperate for answers...but do you get them??

The book ends with an optional cliffhanger which of course I couldn't help but read!!
Am I glad I read it? I would have said no but the second book is out tomorrow(I'm hoping) and *doing a happy dance*, it's Jackson's story!!

I cannot recommend this one highly enough. The writing is superb and the story flows beautifully.
I can guarantee you won't be disappointed with this one!!

★★★★ 4 Stars ★★★★

Hands down one, the heroine in this book is of the best female characters I have come across in forever, and this was one of the most intriguing and complex dark romances I have read in a long time!

End of Day was a brilliant suspenseful read that had equal measures of humour, emotion, sex and drama.

“He'd found a woman who could take pain. But Jillian didn't just take it - she beseeched it.”

Thirty year old Jillian Knight used to be Jessica Day, a woman who has loved and lost and a woman who is trying to be normal. Along with her twin brother Jackson, she has fled her old life in San Francisco to live in a small community of older people who find it amusing to see this sexy and sassy woman collecting her mail in her sexy shorts and red rain boots.

“Strength acknowledges weakness, it doesn’t ignore it.”

Jillian is haunted and has demons that one can only imagine, she is so very tortured, but she is a wonderfully funny and strong character that I LOVED, I actually have a girl crush on her.

As for the men in her life, SWOON! Loved them all.

This was a fantastic beginning to the trilogy, the writing was amazing and although it took me a good 30% to really get into the story, all the little details were relevant to the overall plot-line. so I am glad I stuck with it.

End of Day is a dark romantic suspense, told in past and present, third person POV.

the characters were down right

the couple(s) :

me tryna figure them out

and apparently, the dreaded cliffhanger was

prob a spoiler but i kid u not people, that was it

suspense? drama? mystery? psychological? comedy? wtf is this book supposed to be? coz there was humor one second and the next it became serious and dark real quick. mental illness one sec and mysterious past the next. i couldn’t feel the romance that much, which was annoying, coz i’m in a mood for feelings. some scenes were funny & enjoyable but no connection

real interesting opening, no?

🍃Jill🍃

’Jackson and his friends used to call her a tomboy because she liked motorcycles and tools. She hated that stereotype. There was something in between a frilly girly girl and a tomboy. Jillian called it badass sexy.’

🍂 Jack & Jill 🍂

Jackson sighed. “God you’re pathetic. You have a weak moment and I’m there, pulling you back to reality. I have a weak moment and you’re like, ‘Yeah, fuck it, bro, let’s jump off that cliff.”

🌜AJ and Jill🌛

”Rumor has it you have the best abs in the neighborhood. Mine aren’t too shabby either. Want to compare?”
“Excuse me?”
Jillian loved how her skin tingled in his proximity, how she felt dominated by his stature but not submissive to his strength.
AJ stiffened. “What are you doing?”
“Trying to un-grump you.”
He turned. “That’s not a word.”
“It must be exhausting being grumpy all the time. When you’re alone do you roll around on the floor, hugging your belly while laughing hysterically? Because it’s human nature to smile and laugh, so holding it in for the sake of keeping up this stern façade of yours must feel like torture sometimes. Am I right?”
AJ turned. “You don’t know me.”
“I don’t. But I feel you.”

”Oh for Chrissake!” he murmured.
He stepped outside wearing only his shorts and looked to the heavens for an answer. “I’m sorry. Whatever I did to deserve her, I’m sorry. Just … take her back. She’s not the way I want to die.” His words were mumbled to anyone who would listen and while common sense told him to be thankful that she was gone, whatever was malfunctioning in his brain propelled his legs to her front door step.

basically them in a nutshell ^ w/ her driving him crazy and him being a grumpy old man in return

🍁 Luke (psychiatrist) and Jessica 🍁

”Why do you think you’re fucked-up?”
She looked out her window and shook her head. “I don’t know. Ask my shrink.”
“And what do you think he’d tell me?”
“She. My shrink is a female. There’s no way in hell I’d see a male shrink.” Jessica smirked. “I’ve been down that road before. He made me iron his underwear.”
“Socks,” Luke corrected.
“Then we had sex in his closet.”
“Kissed.”
“Then he shoved me off my bike ten feet from the finish line because he didn’t want me to win.”
“You were never going to beat me.”
“I totally would have. Then he came to my apartment and I think had I not been covered in my own blood we would have had sex that night.”

i told u this has some funny moments right? well when i said that, i meant really good ones. tbh if this were a romcom id’ve rated it higher. but i’m not sure at all on what to label this as, which affected my enjoyment. i'm reading the second book right now despite everything

“Nothing bled quite like regret”

The Jessica Day / Jillian Knight character is the definition of SASS.

The woman had everything: snark, tenacity and an awesome sense of humor. Characters in this book/series were outstanding - they're real and they're complex.

I ship Jessica & Luke so so so hard.

And that right there lay my (super duper personal) problem with the book.

You see, there were two timelines in this book: past & present. So we went back and forth between those.

And my issue is that whenever we switched to DAY narrative, I was riveted and then I saw KNIGHT, and I was just almost willing the story to go back gobackgoback to DAY side, I need more Luke & Jessica!

To be honest, I think I need more Luke. Period. That man was a dream

Then

But don't let all the swooning fool ya, this book was painful and dark and a bit violent and I can't wait to continue!

“Four caskets. Two bodies.”

WOW! What a phenomenal work of fiction. “End Of Day” is the first instalment of the “Jack & Jill” series by Jewel E. Ann and in my opinion, it was absolutely epic. This was the first book I have read by Jewel E. Ann and what a cracker to start with. I still have positively no idea how I am going to review this story, so I have decided to keep it short, sharp and sweet.

I knew absolutely nothing about this book prior to reading it. The synopsis gave nothing away which I loved, because I believed it added to the mystery and suspense of the story. Before reading I actually thought it was a paranormal romance, but it wasn’t. I am going to attempt to write a review without giving anything away, because I want anyone who reads my review to have the same experience when reading it for the first time as I did.

“Jillian Knight was clearly a hundred ways of fucked-up, and the warning sirens blared in AJ’s head every time he neared her proximity, but he was deaf to their warning.”

I was absolutely captivated by Jessica aka Jillian. She was so alluring, sexy, sassy and witty and has two sides to her, which are like “Day” and “Knight”. I will go as far as to say that I have a new favourite book idol. She’s been through a great deal and as a result is completely messed up. She is full of secrets and mystery and I found her to be such a compelling and intriguing character.

“End Of Day” was such a remarkable and unique story. It is like nothing I have ever read before. Hats off to Jewel E. Ann for creating such an intriguing and captivating story. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves their dark, erotic romances full of suspense. This story does end on a cliff hanger and it will leave any reader wanting more. I have told little about the story deliberately as no review will give this book the justice it deserves and my advice is to delve into the story head first with no preconceived ideas. Enjoy!

I've never read anything like this book. It had a little bit of everything, perfectly balancing a variety of elements such as romance, thriller, drama, suspense, psychoanalysis, humor, mystery. It was disturbing and twisted - not very dark.

The characters are very three dimensional – especially Jillian, I really loved this character. She is strong, sassy, sexy, athletic, vulnerable, mysterious. The storyline is thrilling and has you on edge, and especially when you venture into the mind of Jillian. Her relationships with Luke and AJ are very intense and through them, Jill tries to fight her inner demons and acknowledge her weaknesses.

Whelp, mark me down as hooked on this series. I don't know if my brain can survive it but I'm sure gonna try.

 photo C6771BE4-C055-46F3-84DA-7A0240FA2C06_zpsdvnctdyk.gif

That gif pretty much sums up my reading experience with End of Day. This book cannot be described adequately without giving away the whole sorted plot. So, let's instead go with the feels.

HILARIOUS- every ounce of humor I've grown to expect from Jewel E Ann is here tenfold. Her humor is dry at times, completely inappropriate at others, and yet kinda pathetically funny in a sad way (the heroine has issues) in others. Sometimes I felt guilty laughing at Jillian as I know she has a lot of mental baggage but I just couldn't resist.

“It’s a kiss, Jessica. Not sex.”
Her head jerked back.
"Whoa … clearly you don’t understand. A kiss is a save the date, an RSVP to my vagina that says: You. Will. Be. There.”

SUSPENSEFUL- The plot is trickle fed to the read from the past (pre-funeral) to the present (current day- post funeral). The scenes from the past days allow the reader to fully grasp the events that took place that make the heroine with issues the way she is today.

UNCONVENTIONALLY ROMANTIC- Rest assured, this is a love story. Just not quite so wrapped up in the pretty little package-type romances we see everyday. With angry, angsty tug-of-war kinda sex. Should we or shouldn't we? Oh f*ck yes, we should! Attack!

GRAY, NOT DARK PLOT-LINE- I'd tag this story a haze of gray. Some of the subject matter is a bit graphic but very mild. The blurb made me think I was venturing into something darker than it was.

So, in a nutshell, End of Day is Romantic-Comedy-Suspense- If Penny Reid, Nashoda Rose, and Linda Howard created children, this would be their offspring. The star of the show is Jillian, who currently lives with her fraternal twin, Jackson in a quiet nosey-neighbor neighborhood filled with 95% old people. She has one crotchety next door neighbor that's in his early forties, an Air Force officer and suffers from pretty bad PTSD. Combine her issues with neighbor AJ and we've got ourselves the craziest love-hate story ever.

“A guy in a uniform. Sounds like trouble … as in a mindfuck of trouble.” Jackson frowned as he turned and walked inside the house.

Jillian followed. “Maybe, but don’t worry, he’s not my type. I’m trying to rehabilitate my uniform ‘fetish’ to strictly FedEx and UPS—bigger packages.”

Did I mention old neighbors? You know, the kind that can't keep to themselves cuz they have nothing else to do but watch the new girl with issues walk to the mailbox in a bra-less tank top, lace panties, and...wait for it....red rain boots. Yes, lots of Nitroglycerin being passed around amongst the dirty old men in this quiet little burb.

Neighbor highlight, Greta, who was a dead ringer for Betty White. And don't we all need a Betty White in our lives?

Greta homed in on his arms. “Oh those tattoos are really something. I bet they don’t end there … not that it’s my business … but they don’t … do they?” She bit her lip, missing sexy by about thirty years. It was oddly endearing.

-Or-

“Don’t mention it, dear. I’d better get back to Marvin. He’s trying to shove a beer can up a chicken’s ass for dinner tonight.”

 photo EC34BAF1-9D10-4947-BBE2-7A433E66E8BF_zps07nzbdvu.gif

I apologize for the vague review but I refuse to give this book away. It'd be so easy to ruin the ride. Jillian is a very complicated heroine. She's one of those people, sad to say, that remind of the Robin William's of the world. So quirky and funny, always making people happy and laughing- yet completely dying (or wish she was dead) inside. This was the reason of my flip-flopping of feelings. On one page she had me laughing my fanny off, but on the next, I see, I know it's all this protective outer coating she wears to protect herself from the ugly she's survived. She will make you laugh. She will make you cry. And it'll take a special someone to see behind her armor for the person who lies beneath and then treat her with kid gloves. Because something tells me her facade is going to implode.

I can't leave off the relationship between Jillian and her twin. The author captured their verbal and physical sparring PERFECTLY. His loyalty to Jillian was endearing. They held nothing back. Nothing was sacred. And I ate him it up.

“My my, someone’s grumpy today. Are you shedding the lining of your uterus?”

Fans of a menagerie of romantic comedy and suspense, coupled with a quirky flawed heroine with issues should really enjoy this. An all-around mind-tornado enjoyable read!

***This book ends in a "optional" cliffhanger. You can end it at her ending or read the optional cliffy chapter following it. Are you a masochist or are you not? This book has two men in it but is not in any way a love triangle.

----------
End of Day is book one in the complex and interconnected Jack & Jill Series. Fair warning: THIS IS WRITTEN IN 3RD PERSON! The story has dual plot lines and every detail matters. Skimmers will not do well with this book. Readers looking for a simple storyline with a sweet, relatable heroine and an alpha hero should avoid this series.

I have never felt so addicted to writing a story. These characters bleed from some strange unknown place inside myself. The Days and Knights are not normal, relatable, or even sane at times. What does that say about me? I'm not sure, but as an author and an artist I need to push beyond the norm and challenge myself to let my imagination create something unique.

I invite adventurous and open-minded readers to take this journey. Book one ends with a touching declaration and an optional cliffhanger. Happy reading!

RATING: 4.5 “fin de journée" Hearts!! :)

Love takes nothing but gives everything.

End of Day is the sort of suspenseful tale that wastes no time drawing us into the action and putting us on edge as we’re thrust into a unique situation alongside siblings Jessica/Jillian and Jude/Jackson.

“Why?” he whispered.
She planted soft kisses all over his face, stopping at his ear. “Because everybody needs somebody.”

Though perhaps a touch slow in terms of pace given the intricacy of the world-building and introduction of a plethora of characters, getting to know Jill’s complexities in a past and present perspective is nothing short of delightful and thrilling. The romance in this is a complicated one, a factor of not only Jill’s need to make her partner bleed but also due to—what feels like—a triangle as both Jill’s past relationship with Luke and her present relationship with AJ are detailed, giving us plenty of sexy swoon but also leaving us asunder on which man to pick as her hero. Bringing a little humour to the feeling of imminent dread felt throughout the book is Jill’s relationship with Jackson, their sarcasm and devotion for each other bringing a smile to our faces with their every interaction.

“I’ve got you—I’ll always have you.” He kissed her with complete abandon as their walls of resistance came crashing down with sweet relief—sweet surrender.

Overall, End of Day is a fast and exciting first installment in the Jack & Jill series, leaving us with a myriad of questions and an optional cliffhanger, and an intense desire to see what the future is going to hold in store for our enigmatic siblings.

Other Fave Quotes:

Jackson was known for his cavalier attitude toward women. But someday he was going to be someone’s jackpot. If the right woman came along and he decided to love her, she would be adored beyond words, protected to the ends of the earth, and given everything her heart could ever desire.

Single. Piece of you."

Thank you to my gorgeous friend, Suzanne, for reading this with me! Always have so much fun with you! MUAH! :D xoxoxo

Okay, okay....I have been under a verbal cross fire from my two Sirens - Shanny and Denise...to read this book...

READ. THIS. BOOK.

Dammit...okay...I'm ready ;)

After reading it....

I. HAVE. NO. WORDS.

absolutely one of the best books I have read recently...or ever...

The plot is everything you need and more...

And the characters...I have to say, I loved them ALL (it rarely happens to me LOL), they are unique, completely different in their various stages of lives and yet they are linked in this amazingly thin line of haze in existence...

And I have to comment on the heroine - one of the most complex, brilliantly complicated, tormented yet strong, smart and utterly witty in the most refreshingly sarcastic of ways...absolutely stunning, she's perfectly imperfect BUT her sass, sarcastic humor and reasonings are the absolute highlights of the whole book...

Kudos to the author...

And if you are amongst those who haven't read it yet...don't wait too long like I did...

READ. IT. NOW.

“I’m due for an epic mistake.”

Wow! This story is bold, edgy and so addictive. I don't know what I was expecting, but I can assure you, it wasn't this. My mind is blown.

It’s been quite some time, since I’ve read something that's felt so different. In a genre that’s left me burnt-out with overused and tired plot lines, this is a true standout. A breath of fresh air. A book that I won’t forget about anytime soon. A book that has left me no choice but to move right on to the next one.

My favorite part, and believe me there are so many great things about this one, was the snark. I just didn’t expect the level of humor, sarcasm and great one-liners that the author delivered. All intermingled with the dark and the sexy. Kudos to Jewel E Ann.

“Rumor has it you have the best abs in the neighborhood. Mine aren’t too shabby either. Want to compare?”

Funny and completely complicated, I loved every single second with Jillian and Jackson. Just be warned, you might end up like me. With your heart torn between two - in more ways than one. That’s all I’m going to say. It’s best to go into this one knowing as little as possible. Trust me.

“I need you to acknowledge that this is happening . . . that we are happening. I need you to feel me, see me . . . trust me.”

*A huge THANK YOU to Jewel E. Ann and NetGalley for a review copy in exchange for an honest review.*

4 ★'s

So many of my friends have read and love this book (and series) that I had to quit pushing it aside and just read it. And W-O-W, it was like nothing I expected! To be fair, Undeniably You has been the only book that I've read by the author so it subconsciously colored my perception...but in a good way. However, I was in no way prepared for the dark aspect.

The blurb does a great job of filling you in on what's going to happen. Jessica and Jude do indeed watch their own funeral, change their names and start their lives over. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as it sounds. They are both messed up...and that's putting it lightly.

This book is more dominated by Jessica's (aka Jillian's) story and it's been rough. We get flashbacks on what happened to her and how she meet the love of her life, Dr. Luke Jones. OMG people...he is simply amazing. He says and does the most romantic things but ahem, I digress. That's her old life...Jessica's life and she's Jillian now and she. has. to. move. on.

description

Enter Senior Master Sergeant AJ Monaghan, Jillian's next door neighbor and resident Grump. They have more of a love/hate relationship (at first) with the emphasis on hate...and the sex is equally so with lots of biting, clawing and well, you get the picture.

Slowly it evolves. Jessica doesn't want to but Jillian has to move forward. It sounds weird but it's not. What it is - is heartbreaking especially when we get to know more about her relationship with Luke.

I really enjoyed Jillian and Jackson's relationship. They're very protective of each other but like most siblings, they also fight a lot. It was interesting because in this new life, they've both flipped as to how they were before.

We do get a bit of Jackson and how his new life is moving forward and who with. Don't worry about not getting more in this book because we get a lot in the next one!

I got a big kick out of the "older" neighbors and how they react and interact with Jillian and Jackson. I loved seeing the softer side of Jillian with a neighbor she helps take care of. That was really sweet. And I'm really surprised she didn't give some of the men heart attacks! ;)

There's some drama with the Sarge (AJ) and it's very sad and unfortunately, leaves us hanging a bit. Thank goodness, the next book is already out.

Special note: This is still a kindle freebie as of posting date so why not grab it?

6 Old Love, New Love, Crazy Love stars

End of Day is the first book in the Jack and Jill series. I don’t know why I picked up this book. Maybe because I saw my friends give it five stars on Goodreads, maybe because it was on kindle unlimited and maybe after reading “Four Caskets. Two bodies” in the summary I was instantly intrigued.

There are not enough words to convey how WELL WRITTEN this book was. This is a really meaty book, BUT EVERYTHING WRITTEN has a meaning. Every flashback, love part and dramatic experience had a reason. Yes people, I LOVE the flashbacks, in fact I would say it was my favorite part of the book.

This book kind of has a love triangle, but it’s the kind that will melt your heart. I never thought I would love a love triangle book, but there’s something about this one that is so raw, emotional and addictive to read.

Jessica and Jude day are twins. Before you even think, no, it’s NOT that kind of book. I love the relationship between Jessica and Jude. I have a sister and we are best friends so it’s a real treat reading the sister / brother love they have for each other. Due to unfortunate circumstances, which we do not know, they have to fake their deaths.

Jessica not only leaves her past behind, but the love of her life too.

So I’m instantly hooked by now because I have SO MANY QUESTIONS going in my head! Why did they fake their deaths? Who is Jessica’s love and why is he so important? What are they going to do now?

Now, they are Jillian and Jackson. They have new lives and Jessica and Jude are dead. End of Day focuses mostly on Jillian and her issues. She’s had a traumatic past and what makes this book so wonderful is that we get glimpses of her past as we read. I can tell you now, I usually hate reading flashbacks, but because the author describes Jillian’s past with her past love, it’s REALLY REALLY GOOD.

Luke is Jessica’s past. Slowly we figure out what he means to her and how Luke’s life impacts Jessica’s in a very big way. I love Luke. If I had to describe the perfect male book boyfriend, it would be him. He’s smart, strong and the best part of him, he wants Jessica to be better.

“She fallen in love with Luke and the fact that she didn’t kiss him proved it. Love takes nothing but gives everything. Jessica hadn’t given him everything yet”

“You tore into my life… into my heart, wrecking all sense of the man I was before you. Being with you is the best part of my day … every day.”

BUT Jessica is dead and so Jillian forges on and meets AJ. I have mix feelings towards AJ, but I do like his character. I found him so shattered, broken and I love how mean he is towards Jillian. Jillian doesn’t love AJ, but she sees something in him that draws her to him. Maybe she can just play with him to help her get over Luke.

I found Jillian and AJ’s not so normal relationship endearing and somewhat sad. As you read more about Jessica’s past, you find out how much she needs her future to be better and somewhat normal. It’s hard to explain, but even though I didn’t really super like AJ, I liked reading the story.

Jackson is the awesome protective brother. I love the banter between Jillian and Jackson and you get more of him in the second book.

It’s a really heart-warming tale about lost love, new love and making something of the future. I never knew where the story was going to go and I was really okay with that. The writing is exceptional and I can honestly say I’m a HUGE Jewel E. Ann.

Overall Opinion: This was not at all what I was expecting. It was dark(ish) and also really funny. I was really thrown off by the 2 different Hs (one in past flashbacks, and one in present tense). While I'm sure that the reason for knowing the story of the past H is going to be important down the road, I was a little frustrated by the back and forth. I enjoyed the h's story with Luke, but I was really rooting for her story with AJ. As for originality of characters and storyline? I think Ms. Ann did a great job. Even though I was frustrated with a lot of the story, I did Enjoy it for the most part and I'll have to see what happens next in Middle of Knight.

Just FYI -- There is no way that I can do my typical review template without giving things away, so I'll keep this review really brief and if you really want to know spoilers -- PM me ;)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: The story starts with twins Jillian and Jackson being relocated in a with new identities for their safety after their parents died. They have to start all over in a place that is completely from what they are used to. Jillian meets AJ, her grumpy next door neighbor, and they start a love/hate relationship with some steamy scenes. There are flashbacks into their old lives, and some secrets are slowly revealed to help us understand their need for new lives. There is still a lot to be revealed in the next books, and this ends on a cliffhanger.

POV: This was told in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story: Slow at first, but it picked up after a while and I never skimmed.

Sadness level: Low. I never needed any tissues.

Heat level: Moderate. There is some hot scenes and chemistry.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This end on a cliffy to be continued with the second book in the trilogy (that is luckily already out).

How I got it: It was a freebie on Amazon.

Safety: This is a hard one to rate. I would say that it is probably Not Safe for most readers

I was hooked,I couldn't stop reading this book!

This book is so not what I had anticipated, actually I'm not really sure what I was expecting but I loved it!
I don't really know how to describe this book, it had a bit a everything in it!
Drama, humor, suspense, romance. and a touch of darkness.
The romance in this story if it's not like normal romance I usually read, but normal is boring so Giving Thumbs Up Winking

All the characters were amazing. Jillian and Jackson they were just hilarious together and fiercely protective of each other.
Yes Jillian was an emotionally damaged and broken heroine but I loved her attitude and the no-nonsense sass she threw everyone that crossed her path.
Normally I go gaga over the male character but this time I went gaga over Jillian. I really really loved her

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, but when you’re an avid reader who reads well over 100 novels per year, many books tend to blend together. Authors that bring something fresh to the table stand a better chance of producing work that stands out. Jewel E. Ann brought her A-game with End of Day and I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it. She has woven together a gripping, intriguing, and clever novel that I could not put down. What a fantastic start to the series.

Other than the somewhat cryptic book blurb, I knew nothing about the plot before I started this book. I didn’t read any reviews either and I believe my enjoyment was heightened because I went into it blind. Here’s my attempt at writing a good review that gives little away.

End of Day is a romantic-suspense / dramedy / mystery. It is also one huge mindf*ck! It deals with violent subject matter but I wouldn’t classify it as dark fiction; I’d say it falls more on the grey spectrum. It is not a paranormal romance.

Thirty year-old twins Jillian and Jackson Knight have just moved to a quiet Omaha retirement community under unknown circumstances. While Jackson embraces their fresh start, Jillian is resistant. The story is told in the third person and centers around Jillian. Always the rule breaker, Jillian relishes giving the male residents heart palpitations by getting her mail clad only in panties, a tank top, and red rain boots. She’s the type of complex protagonist I can really sink my teeth into: damaged, volatile, snarky, nurturing, alluring, and a total badass. Jillian strikes up a dangerous flirtation with AJ, her perpetually grouchy next-door neighbor, who also happens to be a veteran suffering from PTSD. Is he a threat or a second chance?

The story switches between the present and Jillian’s past and it’s these flashbacks that I found to be absolutely captivating. We meet Luke, the great love of Jillian’s life, and we come to learn more about Jillian’s history, as well as the mysteries surrounding her disturbing psychological tendencies. It’s slowly but expertly paced and extremely gratifying.

My heart ached for Jillian and her desperate attempts to find redemption and happiness. Although there is no love triangle, I couldn’t help comparing AJ and Luke and wondering which man is better for her.

I’m going to crown Jewel E. Ann the “Mary Poppins of Contemporary Romance” because I’m pretty sure she subscribes to the philosophy that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. I’ve discovered that she has a knack for mixing humor and heartbreak and guess what? I like it! She sucker punched me with her style in one of my favorites, Undeniably You, but now I’ve come to expect it. The snarky banter takes the edge off the suffering in this tragically beautiful story.

Many questions remain and we still have no idea what brought the Knights to Nebraska but I’m excited to find out. End of Day is the first book in the Jack & Jill trilogy. An optional cliffhanger is included so if you’re not a fan of cliffies don’t read it and you’ll be good. Otherwise, read at your own risk and be miserable until the release of the next book in November 2015.
