This is a fun, feel good, short and sexy novella. I loved the MC's they were all quite unique and interesting. I love the way the 3 shifters and 3 wolves became a family.
Exiled wold pair Jock and Gus come across a female wolf who has been caught in a trap and killed by scavengers. Unfortunately this mama wolf, not to be confused with a female shifter although on one occasion she was referred to as their kind and they are shifters, left behind three wolf pups. With hearts of gold, these two bachelors who barely have enough food to feed themselves can't just walk away from the pups and leave them to fend for themselves, so they take them in and share their meager supplies with them.
This is the point where the confusion begins. You come across wild orphaned wolf pups. Why wouldn't you find a park ranger and get help getting the pups to a pack that would take them in? How does it make sense to bring them with you? It's a park ranger's job to help after all. The park ranger encounters the bachelor campers and offers all of them shelter, including the pups. As a ranger, shouldn't he be working towards getting the pups back to their own kind?
My first introduction to this author's writing has left me at a crossroads I'm not normally at. I am both confused and oddly intrigued. Although I enjoyed the premise of the book and the characters, I found myself wondering on more than one occasion if the characters were intentionally created to sound unintelligent every time they spoke. Was it deliberate or are incomplete sentences punctuated with several periods throughout is just a part of this author's writing style. I can see it being used once or twice, however, the frequency in which there would be a period after every word was beginning to get distracting, as were the errors. At one point Jock's name was changed to Josh and somehow this made it past editing.
Don't get me wrong, those instances aside, I did enjoy the story and each individual's attempt to find their place in this tiny new pack dynamic. The characters were entertaining and I found myself wanting to other books by this author. This particular book however could have done with one more pass by an editor. The errors partway through the book were too distracting.

This was a lot like Wolf Run. And I was hoping it would be, since I loved that one. I can’t seem to get enough of a big strong man taking care of two other men who need him.
Wolf shifters Gus and Jock have been run out of their pack so they’re living in the woods. They have almost no food and are trying everything in their power to survive, but at least they have each other.
When they come across 3 young wolves, they take them with them to their camp, because they feel someone should look after them. They share their food and their warmth with the young wolves.
That is how park rancher Archer finds them. He immediately sees the need in the two young shifters, but Gus is defending his territory. Archer invites them to his cabin, so that they can at least have a shower.
After a shower, lots of food and some rest it is clear to Archer he has to be the one to initiate things between the three of them. Especially since he knows Gus and Jock want him too, but Gus feels they shouldn’t.
Great sex, sweet moments, cute baby wolves. Yes, I loved this!
I really needed a feel-good read tonight. I needed something that reminded me that life goes on and love will always win. I found it in BA Tortuga's new series 'Two Is Never Enough'. I love shifter stories and the description - particularly of these two wolf shifters rescuing wolf puppies - just made me say "awww". That's what I needed tonight. Seeing as I'm always a big fan of this author's world building I figured I couldn't go wrong.
Jock and Gus are living in the wilderness of the Colorado mountains when they run across a female wolf dead in a trap. As they begin to bury her they hear her three female pups and can't help their instinct to protect and love them. I fell in love with both men right then and there. It got even better when Archer, a forest ranger, stumbles upon them and Jock says “We’re, like, totally legal and all. Pinky swear. Nice to meet you.” Yes. Can you see it in your head? I totally could. Two young guys, skinny, kicked out of their pack for being bachelor males, trying to hide wolf cubs in their tent. Heart melting.
"The connection between them glowed, and the cubs adored them. Gus was fierce, protective, and Jock just wanted approval."
Archer is an alpha who was kicked out of his brother's pack for being gay. He wants both Gus and Jock, but Gus is understandably nervous as large alpha males never want bachelor males around. However, as Archer reminds him, he has no pack of women and children to worry about. It's been so long since these men felt the bonds of a pack and Archer wants that with them so badly.
I enjoyed this book very much but I'm definitely going to be looking for more. I'm still trying to understand the world the author built as there are hints to it but nothing definitive. Which I love, by the way. Jock and Gus are adorable and Archer was the perfect alpha male. I really liked the way the author wrote a lot of the scenes where their wolf instincts were more in the forefront as it made it so believable. If you like hot threesomes with a lot of wolfiness and some seriously cute puppies then this is a must-read for you.

I'm not going to lie- there's not much depth to this book, and not much plot. It's just the set-up to a series (that will hopefully involve plot later?) and a bit of a guilty pleasure read. It's pretty much fucking and fighting, and it isn't particularly well-edited. That being said, it's a fun little bit of fucking and fighting, although not really my preferred style.
When I crave a shifter book, I crave shifters a la Kaje Harper and Kim Fielding (Unacceptable Risk and Good Bones, respectively), and therefore I always end up disappointed with the standard shifter tales and tropes. If you love shifter books, then I have no doubt you'll love this one. If you're more on the fence about shifters, it may not be for you.
This short story that turns two friends who are trying to survive into a bit more. Running into abandon pups complicates things more. But in steps Archer who has a way to work things through.
I had a hard time coming up with a rating because some parts I felt were three star and others two star (just ok according to Goodreads' rating system). So, we'll call it a 2.5 rounded up to be fair.
I'm a sucker for werewolves/wolf shapeshifters, and I was really intrigued by the threesome aspect. I really enjoyed the characters of Archer and Gus. They were well-developed I thought for such a short story. Jock, not so much. I was also disappointed we didn't really learn all that much about the guys and their pasts. All and all I found them to be interesting as a trio of mates. They work well together. Honestly I wish there had been more because it felt like their story was just getting started.
I'm probably the only one who ever complains about there being too much smut. But yeah, I'm that person. If it doesn't forward the story in some way then I don't see the point. There was just a few too many sex scenes, especially given how short it is.
One thing I'll say is that while it does have elements of insta-love (we're talking about werewolves/shapeshifters here), they don't just jump into it. At least not as quickly as things typically happen in this genre. There's no denying their chemistry from the beginning, and the bit of mating magic, if you will, that sparks between them. Even so, Archer wants to do things right. I quite enjoyed the dynamic, push-pull, between Archer and Gus that was created. I guess it was another reason I wasn't fond of Jock
Overall not a bad read. Not too sure if I would read another one if this series continues or not though.
This was a cute story about Jock and Gus who are lone werewolf mates trying to survive on their own after being cast our of their pack. They find a litter of actual wolf cubs whose mother had been killed by a trapper. Archer, is the Alpha wolf who tracks them down in search of the the trapper who killed the wolf mother. He quickly realizes Jock and Gus are his mates and wants them to be their own pack. Gus takes some extra convincing, as he is afraid Archer will take Jock away from him. But, once Archer convinces Gus that Jock will still belong to him, but that both of them will belong to Archer.
That is pretty much the story in a nutshell. It is cute, but pretty simple and straightforward. Other than getting Gus on board with the plan, there isn’t really anything else giving these guys any trouble. The writing was a bit choppy in places, mostly due to the short, monosyllable conversations. Unfortunately, we don’t really learn very much about any of the other werewolves, packs or anything really to do with their being werewolves. These are just three wolves who end up living together in a somewhat secluded setting. The wolf pups were cute, but they felt like more of a filler than a necessary part of the story.
All in all, this was a cute afternoon read that fans of shifter stories would enjoy.
Needing to Breathe by author B.A. Tortuga is the first book in the Two is Never Enough Series. This story has me very conflicted. The story itself is very good. The idea of it that is. The chemistry between everyone is also very good. The part that is making me torn is the editing. The author often mistakens her own characters names for instance calling Jock, Josh in the middle of a sex scene. I found where it was done like four times on one page. Then on another page she is confusing Gus and Jock in a sex scene. This made for confusing reading on my part. Usually I can forgive one or two mistakes like this, but this one had more than its fair share. Also the story has so much chemistry and love, it is sad to see editing mistakes take away from that. Gus is the alpha of the pack well at first he is anyways. He is wild, gruff, and protective. Jock he is pure joy and puppy mode most of the time. Young and spry he is the light hearted one of the bunch. Archer who ends up being the true alpha to them all. He is thoughtful, kind, and lovable. I loved the chemistry they all have. It made for hot reading. Though the editing did take away from that slightly. I would say this has everything I love MMM and werewolves. But as it stands I would say skip this one. I wish I could say over look the editing but it is in the middle of some hot scenes and does detract from the overall feeling in the scenes.
Welllll…. I really loved this for the hurt/comfort aspect. Poor Jock and Gus are really struggling to make a go of it on their own, then these orphaned pups show up and now things are even harder. But pride and a real belief there’s nothing else for them to do leaves them up in the woods, slowly starving to death. But at least they have one another.
When Archer shows up, he – at first – just wants to help. And that’s really sweet, but his feelings for the boys swings wildly around until it finally settles on the idea that he wants them both – forever.
Jock adapts right away, and I felt bad for Gus – like he thought he wasn’t “enough” for Jock and Jock can’t make him understand the difference. Archer isn’t really good at all the “feelings” part either, so Gus seems kind of brokenhearted for a long while.
When, by the end, they’ve mostly ironed things out, it feels better, but I never got the sense of them as a working triad – all three as equals. Archer still felt like the outsider and Gus still seemed like he was acquiescing rather than it being something he really wanted for himself.
It was full of cute “wolfy time” and I always enjoy shifters who shift a lot. The pups were adorable and the overall story was a happy one. I just didn’t love it as much as I wanted. (I don’t think the cover represents any of the boys or Archer!)
This is a very quick read, almost too quick. We don't get much background for Jock and Gus, nor for Archer...we jump right in to the point at which they meet each other. I would have liked to get a full background for all of them to get a better sense of how their characters were shaped.
It is obvious that Jock and Gus are quite young and emotionally immature (Jock more so than Gus), but it was nice seeing them take responsibility for the wolf pups they come across. When Archer enters the picture, it is clear that he is an alpha and he quickly takes control to bring Jock, Gus and the pups under his care.
This is an M/M and M/M/M menage story, and a very large portion of the pages is dedicated to the description of the men interacting. For me, the ratio of story to intimate scenes was too far skewed, I would have much preferred getting more detailed in the story points (character background, the forming of their own pack, etc) to have a deeper, more meaningful tale.
If you are the type of M/M reader who prefers more carnal in your story, this will be right up your alley. I'm hoping at some point the author decides to really beef up the story with more depth and background which would make it more enticing for me.
This is not my usual review genre but I figured this time, I'd give it a try. And it was pretty interesting. This book starts out the series and had an intriguing idea behind it. The characters are well developed and has some great growth with them as well. And overall I really liked it.
Gus is the alpha of the pack, to start. He's your typical alpha, protective, a little rough around the edges. Jock is like a puppy, seriously, he's easily entertained and so happy and laid back. They are both lacking a true alpha and leader and have some maturing to do. But I loved that they took in the wolf pups. It showed that even immature they have a great heart and room to grow. And then they meet Archer. Archer is sweet and considerate and full of love. He's the true alpha really. And even though he took charge, he did it so well, not over bearing or tyrant.
I loved the werewolf part of the book which is what made me pick it up. Especially if gay paranormal romance is what you're looking for. I would have really liked some more background info on each of the characters. How they at least became who they are now. And I will say, the romance is pretty hot. And I look forward to seeing them all grow and where the author will take this. 4 PAWS!!
This is an awareness comment for genuine Goodreads users. 1 star ratings should be ignored unless given by a genuine Goodreads account holder as there are trolls deliberately rating books down. Below is an example
I looked a little deeper into a person who gave 1 star review and they are NOT a reader giving a rating but someone who is targeting certain books to give low scores. This person has given over 11,500 ratings of only 1 star, no reviews and no ratings above the 1 star. They also have no profile. I hazard a guess that they are a troll armed with the sole purpose of giving a low rating so books are given less attention....I also hazard that it's m/m books.
As a Goodreads user I resent this behavior as these individuals are falsely rating books down to skew the results. That is fraud. If you see them, make a comment and identify them for everyone to see.
Needing to Breathe is both the first book in the Two Is Never Enough series, and also the first book by this author that I have read.
The setup is very simple, and the characters are uncomplicated. Jock and Gus were kicked out of their old Pack for being gay. They have camped in a National Park and are surviving the only way they know how. Trouble blows in when they find the torn-apart body of a female wolf and her litter of 3 pups. Jock and Gus take them to their 'home' and try to look after them the best they can. They are found by Archer, a Park Ranger and also a wolf himself.
For me, the best part of the book is when Gus and Archer fight to determine their status. This felt more 'real' than the rest of it, with insta-love running abundant.
I recommend this to anyone wanting a quick afternoon read with nothing too deep.

Needing to Breathe is a beautiful love story with a rocky road. I enjoyed all of the characters and found Gus’s struggle most interesting. The spicy story of this trio of hot men offers an entertaining break for any reader. B.A. Tortuga once again provides a wonderful read for the romantic at heart. Very reminiscent of Wolf Run, similar setup, similar dynamics but I did like Wolf Run better, I connected to the characters more and they felt more fully fleshed out. I enjoyed the story, but I wasn't as invested and because of the similarities I couldn't help but compare the two.
I would love this book if I had read almost the same thing in B.A.'s Wolf Run. This and the fact that one of the MC's names goes back and forth from Jock to Josh--very jarring--kept it as a solid 3 rather than a 4.
