This is a spin off of Fox Eared Jealousy, and while it wasn't as cute, I still enjoyed it. Both leads have felt like outcasts in their own lives, so they are able to connect on a deeper level from the start. It starts with friendship and then becomes more. The confession scene at the end was very sweet.

Kind of a Wolf is a companion to Fox-Colored Jealousy. It follows one of the side characters and his romance with his scary neighbor, who finds out about his wolf ears and tail. There's also a little cameo of the mcs.

this was a cute little palette cleanser. I feel like I've been reading a lot of smutty garbage recently and this was just some cute mindless fluff. I wish I had read this closer to when I read the fox one, but you don't *need* to read them together to fully understand the story. I did want a little more, but I still enjoyed it.

I read the whole first chapter going "wow, this reminds me a lot of Fox Colored Jealousy" only to look it up and find out that it's the same mangaka. And then to start chapter two and nearly shout "OH IT'S A SPIN OFF" out loud. lol.

AND WHAT A SPIN OFF IT IS!!!!!!! WAHHH!!

I ADORED this manga oh my GOD. The art was just so beautiful (especially Hayato, and especially eyes), and I kept finding myself lost in character's expressions. I noted in my review of Fox Colored Jealousy that the art was hit and miss, and that I felt like it was improving as the story went on, and considering this is a spin off, I stand by that. The art is SO good here and doesn't have any of the wonkiness I felt about Fox Colored Jealousy.

I love how much more character and development Hayato got in this volume, and I loved seeing how his possession impacted his life -- the idea that he literally cannot control himself and hates that he becomes something that's not him and that he cannot remember at all was really well done, as was his self imposed isolation due to smells. (Both of these things hit really hard for me as a neurodivergent who spent years feeling like I wasn't in control of my mind and body, and who has an extremely sensitive sense of smell, so I couldn't help but read his character as a neurodivergent allegory.) (Which, what are werewolf-esque characters if not an allegory for neurodivergence or queerness tbh)

And the relationship between Hayato and Shiroki;;;; It was perfect to me. I love relationships were you feel accepted for who you are without any conditions (neurodivergence allegory!!!!!) and that you finally feel safe to be yourself and to let down your guard, put down your sword.

This is much more rambling and scattered than my usual reviews, but that is just due to how I really loved this manga.

Also special shout out to Yen Press? The physical edition feels really nice to hold; the binding was really crisp and tight, and I like the feeling and thickness of the pages.

Oogami is Shiroki's loud neighbor, but after sternly asking him to lower the volume, Oogami quiets down to the point that Shiroki thinks no one is home when he sneaks in to retrieve his wayward kitty, only to come face to face with Oogami with wolf ears and a tail and...

Okay, this started off cute and seemed like these two would get closer naturally and the biggest bump would be the two of them admitting that they're gay and want a relationship... right up until Shiroki admits that he grabbed Oogami's dick that first night. Arguably, that's sexual assault, especially since Oogami was out of his mind enough to not remember anything. Oogami admits he has trouble controlling his wolf sometimes, but he takes responsibility for his mistakes and takes steps to separate himself from potentially disastrous situation. But Shiroki just lies and pretends it didn't happen... until it happens again.

I dunno, there's a line where "I trust you" gets broken, and that would be mine.

The sequel is finally here!

I was wondering when we’d get Oogami‘s POV. His relationship with his neighbor, Shiroki, turned more was cute and had a lot of heartwarming emotional moments sprinkled throughout. I felt like they really got one another and became a safe haven for each other. I did chuckle at the squeezed in moments of smut at the end (kind of starting to feel very formulaic at this point) but even without it, I wouldn’t have questioned their feelings for one another. Also, there was a cute cat!

I did really enjoy meeting the fox spirit in Fox Colored Jealousy, so I was a little bummed that we didn’t get to meet the wolf spirit in this spin-off. But, instead we got a cute neighbors-to-friends-to-lovers instead.

Thanks Edelweiss and the publisher for a DRC! I wouldn’t have even known this came out if it wasn’t for seeing it there. Thank gosh I’m newsy.

I didn't realize this was kind of a spin-off to another volume that came out awhile ago that I bought but have yet to read. I loved this! It was so emotional that I teared up a few times. Oogami and Shiroki might not seem like they'd work together, but they're both guys who have been hurt and are lonely and afraid to connect with other people while letting their true selves out. I loved the progression of their relationship. It was really sweet. There were a few spicier moments, but for the most part the story was just two men falling in love and not being lonely anymore. Highly recommend.

I consider this book to be a marked improvement over Fox-Colored Jealousy in terms of story, though it doesn't come close to being as adorable. As characters, Oogami Hayato and Shiroki feel a bit more grounded and easy to relate to than Akiha Konno and Yukuri Takahashi— they have different struggles yet find comfort in each other in a classic "opposites attract" pairing.

This book does benefit from having Hayato as an established character, in this story he is redeemed after being something of an antagonist.

Seriously cute!
I didn't realise at first - thought I probably should have, from the style of the cover art - that this was a continuation of Fox Colored Jealousy. However, it's written as a standalone, so you don't have to have read that first.

I loved everything about this - the redemption story, the hurt/comfort, the reappearance of other characters, and the gorgeous artwork. These two books will definitely be a feel-good re-read in the future.

This was wonderful. I think I enjoyed this story slightly more than Fox Colored Jealousy- I really loved the idea of two people being alone for different reasons could find comfort in someone else. It’s like that loneliness was the string that tied them together, and that is such a sweet sentiment. I do wish there was more spice- but the amazing story made up for that.

I wish this had some better communication (I hate miscommunication tropes), I still found this to be a sweet BL manga. There really isn't much to say about it as it's exactly what you'd expect out of something like this.
