Strawberry Hollow #2

A Festive Feud

Rate this book
My family is famous for two things in our small Our annual Christmas party And…. Our feud with The Pearce family. Our families hate each other. It’s a tale as old as St. Nick himself. So, imagine what happens when a harmless little argument with Jackson Pearce ends with us both behind bars for the night. As if that wasn’t bad enough… The punishment for our crime? The only Christmas party we’re allowed to have is one together. At Town Hall. But… It gets worse . That means that I’ll be forced to spend time with Jackson and his enormous ego while we plan this party and somehow keep our families from strangling each other with tinsel this holiday season. It doesn’t help that he is annoyingly attractive and goes out of his way to push my buttons.
With his old, dirty, work boots, and his stupid veiny forearms, he works his way into my perfectly organized life and leaves everything in disarray.

Will we actually be able to survive this… Festive Feud, or will we end up back where we started?

Nothing I haven't read before. The first novella in the series is the superior one for sure, this one didn't seem the same at all.

One thing that didn't sit well with me was the fact it's being marketed as enemies to lovers but they're just rivals and for only one chapter. By the second chapter both of them get horny and it gets very insta lovey. Had it been marketed right, I would have went in with different expectations and I might have enjoyed it 🤷‍♀️

But if anyone wants a quick read to get one step closer to their reading goal with holiday vibes- this is it. Gotta admit, the spice was really good and there were some adorable moments. 👀

A Festive Feud is a steamy 🔥 and cute Christmas novella 💗 Maren Moore is the Mariah Carrey equivalent to Christmas books🎅🏽🎄 she better be writing a new novella each holiday season or else 🤭

Summary: Emma and Jackson both live in Strawberry Hollow and both hate each but secretly are pining. Their families have been feuding for years because one of the families didn’t receive an invitation to a Christmas party. The hatred has intensified and they are constantly doing pranks especially during the holiday time when they both host their own infamous Christmas party. The town is exhausted and tired of all the drama so after a store dispute that ends up with them spending a night in jail they now must plan the Christmas party at the town hall with BOTH of their families.

Tropes
💞enemies to lovers
💞forced proximity
💞rivals
💞opposites attract
💞one bed

”I’m pretty sure fighting over a nutcracker with her and getting tossed in the drunk tank for a night may have been the best thing that has ever happened to me. I never stood a chance.”

The banter and tension between both characters was so cute and hilarious. Emma is boujee, stubborn and definitely has type A personality. Jackson is a good balance for her and he loves to push all her buttons. He’s also so sweet and supportive 🥰 They are both family oriented and really value their small town. I loved them getting to know each other and how Jackson discovered she’s nothing like what he expected.

”My life would be a hell of a lot easier if I hadn’t started to realize that maybe I have a thing for this sassy, overly organized, takes no shit and gives it back twofold girl.”

The scene where he defended her at the party 🫠🫠 just take my heart gahhh🥹

The dressing room scene will forever live inside my brain 🤪😮‍💨 and there is aftercare in one of the later scenes 🥹💕

Overall thoughts: I loved this one so much!! There is a HEA and no third act breakup.

✎𓂃 “I’m crazy about you, Emma Worthington. Head over heels, Snowflake, and loving you is easily the best decision I’ve ever made.”

3.5 stars ✨ First, it was Hallmark with spice, and now we’ve got Hallmark after dark?! Maren Moore knows what she’s doing with these spicy holiday novellas!

❆Quick Summ:
The Worthingtons and the Pearces are the ultimate rival families in Strawberry’s Hollow, and we’re talking the Montagues and Capulets level of rivalry. Every year, both families divide the town residents by throwing a Christmas party…on the same day (if the other side hasn’t already sabotaged the other). After a nutcracker incident gone bad, Jackson and Emma are forced to throw one single party together to hopefully end the family feud. But spending more and more time together proves there’s a very thin line between love and hate.

❆My Thoughts:
A Festive Feud was such a cute follow-up to The Mistletoe Bet and tbh, I liked this one a little bit more! This novella is in the ~200 page range, which allows a little more time for the romance to develop and the plot to thicken. The enemies-to-lovers was so good, I couldn’t get enough of Emma and Jackson’s banter! I could feel their chemistry, so much more than the first book (I’m also a sucker for enemies-to-lovers so that’s probs the driving force here 😅).

Emma is EXTREMELY anally organized and planful which I absolutely loved about her–I do love me a good checklist. Jackson describes her as having a holier-than-thou” attitude, with her prissiness and designer everything. But THIS MAN can make anyone melt try to convince me otherwise.

✎𓂃 “Fuck it. Let them look. You’re mine, Emma, and I want the entire damn world to know it. I’m not hiding the way I feel about you, and if anyone has anything to say about it, then they know exactly where to find me.”

I didn’t love his nickname for Emma, “Snowflake,” as it’s come to have a derogatory meaning (boo ppl ruin everything!!) 👎 But the line “Melt for me, Snowflake” during the deed? Ok, I wasn’t mad! 🫠

In the style of a Hallmark movie, the 3rd act conflict was easily resolved and tied up with a bow. No breakups, but it did have a classic trope, that Jackson’s sister Josie sums up quite well:

✎𓂃“Ugh, I hate the miscommunication trope.”

Girl, you quoting me?!?!?! Cause same, Josie, same.

An overall fun follow-up to book 1 and perfect for the smutty season ❤️💚

"Melt for me, Snowflake,"
Another Christmas read, another Maren Moore book—and how I loved this one! If you’re looking for strictly sweet, this is not it. However, if you’re looking for a healthy dose of steam, you’re going to love this too.
I mean, enemies to lovers AND Christmas? Gotta love it.

"I love Christmas almost as much as I loathe Jackson Pearce. That’s saying a lot since Christmas is magical."
Jackson and Emma are sworn (born?) enemies. Their families have been at odds with each other for years, to the point where no one knows what started it. The tiniest things can trigger an argument, which is why they find themselves fighting over an ornament.
Which is what lands them in a nice, cozy jail cell for the night too.

"But the truth is, I don’t actually hate Emma Worthington. I just want to shove my cock between her lips to shut her up."
Their biggest point of contention is each family’s Christmas party. So when they’re told that they will have to do a joint one this year, you can imagine how well it went. Because they hate each other, right? Not because they’re stupidly attracted to each other and they want to avoid spending too much time together. Right. Of course.

"Me: Sorry, this number is currently disconnected and unavailable to ice princesses. Please try again… never.
Emmie: It honestly surprises me how much you continue to prove your immaturity. How does it feel to be over thirty and still a man-child?"

I will ALWAYS be a sucker for enemies to lovers. The banter, the tension, the will-they-won’t-they… I love it all. And these two are so good. From the way he teases her with nicknames to the way she doesn’t take his shit, I loved their interactions.
To be fair, I have no idea how anyone could hate Jackson. In my head, he’s perfect in every way!

"Fuck, as much as I pretend to hate this girl, I want her. Badly."
As with any enemies to lovers, their first time together is epic. With the promise of it being only one night and of getting back to hating each other's guts full-time in the morning, of course. And damn! Like I said… Jackson is perfect. You can take my word for it!

"Fuck the feud, fuck the fact that we’re supposed to hate each other, fuck everything that isn’t right here, right now."
After their only night, they still have to work together to make sure the party will happen. They’re so different in terms of personality, their upbringing, their families… but somehow that doesn’t really matter when they’re together.
You start seeing more of both of them and how perfect they actually are for each other.
And it becomes clear that this could never be a one-night thing.

"Fuck it. Let them look. You’re mine, Emma, and I want the entire damn world to know it. I’m not hiding the way I feel about you, and if anyone has anything to say about it, then they know exactly where to find me,"
Their families still hate each other, so how will this work? Where do they go from here? What happens when the party—and the holidays—are over? Because they can’t let everyone know, right?
Wrong. And Jackson’s "fuck it" moment had me squealing!

Also, can we have books about his siblings? Because I want that!

"I want to spend the rest of the night forgetting the world until it’s just you and I."
Their HEA is sweet. Everything gets sorted out—not that I think Jackson would let her go even if it didn’t. My heart feels happy and full, just as it should be for the holidays.

ARC review (in Spanish and English) 🎄

English review

“I don’t want this to end. I don’t want to walk away from you.”

“It’s like you were made for me. Every inch of you was made to bring me to my knees, Emma.”

If you want to start your Christmas readings, THIS IS THE BOOK.

It's the perfect Christmas themed story with a good dose of spice. It's a short book, so it will make it much easier for you to enjoy the reading. I was honestly hooked from the very first moment.

Emma and Jackson's family have hated each other all their lives and consequently so have they. However this may start to change when they have to work together to organize the town's annual Christmas party.
This read had me raving the whole time. Because despite being a short book and going a bit fast, I enjoyed every moment. I must admit, when I started the book I had no idea what I was going to find but I have no regrets whatsoever.

So like I said, if you want to start your Christmas reading, you should keep this book in mind. Good combination of entertainment and spice.

Finally, I would like to add that you should never be fooled by the cover. 👀

Thank you so much to Maren for the e-arc. I'm glad I started my Christmas reading with this story! 💗

We love Xmas novellas, and we are getting another from this world!

Jackson and Emma family dislike each other and try to one up one another during Xmas with parties. But these two accidently ruin some stuff that has the town tired of this fued. So now they have to work together and plan a Christmas party for everyone and everyone is invited.

These two were funny on the banter and the pull/ push since Emma was more posh and Jackson was more rugged down to earth type of style.

From teasing to getting spicy in a dressing room, I loved how cute they were. Even when the party happened, I felt so bad for Emma because she put so much stress on herself. And when we finally find out how the fued started and how silly it was, lol glad they moved on.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, slight drama, sexy times, no virgins

I liked that we learned right away Jackson did not actually hate Emma.
I really enjoyed how it was the guy leading the charge for their relationship. Which Moore did in her other book as well.

In that book, I felt it was a bit sudden, the male MC wanting more from the girl. This transition from ‘enemies’ to something more was, I mean, still quick because it's a novella, but smoother.

I also really liked how as the couple spent more time together, you actually saw them becoming more comfortable with each other and accepting of their opposing personalities.

There was a chapter or two in the middle that I felt were written before the beginning. Like, Moore had built the story around those scenes.
It’s not a bad thing but just needed a bit of editing to make it fit a little more seamlessly.

I liked seeing the Pearce family but I would’ve loved seeing Emma with both of her parents.
Her father was off-screen for basically the whole story except for one chapter near the end.

I really liked the fact that once the couple committed to each other, that was it. There was no, ‘I need to think about this’ or some kind of conflict that split them apart for a second.

The conflict between the families was resolved a little too quickly for me. It was a decades long feud.
Sure, over a simple misunderstanding that could’ve been taken care of if they had just spoken to each other when the first incident happened but still!

Overall, another not bad story where the magic of Christmas brings warring people together.

3.5 stars that probably would have been rounded up but I'm moody after a bad morning

Emma (h) and Jackson (H) live in the same small town and their families have an epic Christmas party feud that's gone on for decades, ever since Jackson's family moved to the area. The feud has divided the town and after Emma and Jackson get into a scuffle in the general store, resulting in major damages, they spend a night in the clink and then the mayor lays down their punishment - they must work together on a Christmas party for the whole town or charges will be pressed. Considering how antagonistic these two were anytime they were remotely near each other, this seemed impossible. Of course, this is a Christmas romance so the forced proximity leads to acknowledgement of their shared attraction which leads to S-T-E-A-M and a better understanding of what the other is truly like at their core. Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama (tiny moments of jealousy/possessiveness) and neither are virgins (no history mentioned for each that I noticed).

I thought the Christmas feud was a little too juvenile to start, but that's also kind of the point, that it was ridiculous how everyone was acting. I appreciated that Emma and Jackson didn't change their minds about the other immediately, it was a progression that felt more natural as the working together let them see the depths behind each other's outward appearances. Both also share a love of their family, although Jackson's family was more traditionally close, while Emma felt more separated from hers. I loved that there was no third act breakup and that there wasn't a huge conflict from their families over the reveal of their romance. Plus, they also stood up for each other where it counted and I love when characters do this. As much as I enjoyed the steamy moments between them, and there were several of them, I do wish that they had softened more to each other before they hit the sack (or other places/surfaces) together. I was also kind of surprised that there was a tiny bit of kink introduced before it felt like true trust would have developed (one use of sl*t, tying hands up, and a moment of throat holding), but that's just me being nitpicky.

Most of the story is Emma and Jackson, with a couple of instances of townspeople or their families on page. Jackson has two adorable pups who immediately loved Emma and vice versa. There's a bit of background for each with family dynamics and their professions. The party planning moments led to some cute scenes, but the sweetest ones were definitely after they both admitted they wanted more from the other. After that comes dating-like times, but with a hint of sneaking around as they don't want the whole town's eyes on them either. The final party scene with the expected clash between families also led to a clearing of the air that fell a tiny bit flat for me given how the feud affected so many other people. But it was also a relief, esp for Emma, who stressed about the party and the fighting. The ending is HFN, 9 months down the road with them moving in together. It was a cute scene to end on. I would recommend this as a fun Christmas read that was quick and had a lot of steam for how long it was, but still had emotional connection.

Hallmark After Dark. Small town Christmas story with a deliciously dirty romance 🎄🥂

The story centers around a Christmas feud ⚔️ between two families, the Pearces vs the Worthingtons. Since the feud is causing too much drama in this small town Emma Worthington together with Jackson Pearce are instructed to throw an epic Christmas bash together.

This is such a cute and festive 🎄 read with unexpected spiiiice 🌶️ Emmie (aka Snowflake) and Jackson fall in love in a completely Christmas environment which I absolutely LOVED! ESPECIALLY WHEN How festive!!! Or when the festive spirit bled into dirty talk with the mmc going down and dirty on the fmc and saying ”Melt for me, Snowflake.” 🤌🤌

Don’t get fooled by the cute cover!! The mmc has such a diiiiiiirty mouth and I was squeeling through the entire book.

“But the truth is, I don’t actually hate Emma Worthington. I just want to shove my cock between her lips to shut her up.”

“Soak my face, Snowflake”

“Be a good girl. Look at my dirty little slut stifling her moans in a dressing room while she comes all over my fingers.”

The mmc is a popular bluecollar guy and she is a local uptight ice princess. But of course nothing is as it seems!! Although Emma is a perfectionist it’s the sweetest when she starts neglecting her strict rules saying they no longer feel as important as spending time with Jackson ♥️

forced proximity
boy obsessed 😍

emotionally intelligent & supportive mmc that makes you feel cozy and safe!

This book is very Christmasy, but don’t expect a wholesome Christmas story. The spice level is off the charts.

A cute feud between 2 families, but the 2 main rival characters end up falling into bed together. It focuses more on the spicy scenes than them actually getting to know each other and falling in love. But it’s a good story.

The titles of each chapter are iconic. I give the chapter titles 5 stars. This was a 5 star book in the beginning, but the focus on the spicy scenes made it lose some of its magic. I like spice, but I also like plot. The ending made up for it a bit.

You know when you read a holiday novella and you immediately feel like you are being wrapped up in Christmas joy? That is truly this novella! I loved it so much and it was the perfect little novella to get the holiday season started. Things to look for in this book:

🎄 Holiday novella
🎄 Enemies to lovers
🎄 Small town romance
🎄 Forced proximity
🎄 One bed
🎄 Feuding families
🎄 All the Christmas joy

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
Angst level: 💔

When Jackson and Emma are caught battling it out once again, the Mayor officially wants to put a stop to it once and for all. So now Emma and Jackson are tasked with planning one big town wide Christmas party. Which neither are too happy with.

But once they spend some time together, they realize how silly their family feuds are and how truly attracted they are to one another.

I genuinely loved this couple because their hate to live was done so organically. And I loved the resolution between the families!

If you want a Hallmark movie in book form with some great banter, some spicy times, and a dirty talking hero, then look no further!

This was cute and had a lot of fun holiday tropes to read and pass the time during the holiday season. The ending did feel over-the-top and relied on miscommunication as a reasoning for drama, but overall I had a fun time reading this hate to love romance where they're forced to work together to plan a holiday party!

Great story, great spice, great romance.

This is me swooning, but like… festively.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: A Festive Feud by Maren Moore

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Holiday romance, enemies-to-lovers, he falls first, small town, feuding families.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Emma and Jackson are arrested while battling over a nutcracker - the latest in a nasty feud between their families. The mayor gives them a choice… plan a holiday party together, or it goes on their permanent record.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Holiday reads a sometimes get monotonous, so when you find ones that break the mold, you’re lucky.

A Festive Fued was everything I wanted. Heavy on the holidays. A solid dose of spice and had me a little squirmy. And some gorgeously swoony romance. Jackson is wonderful - you’ll want your very own flannel covered handyman. And I loved him and Emma’s relationship, especially as it grew and changed.

I want to read more of Maren Moore’s stuff now - so I’m sure stay tuned.

A Festive Feud is a super cute, small town, Christmas novella with enemies to lovers (feuding families), forced proximity, only one bed, and opposites attract! This was described as “hallmark after dark” and it definitely fits.

“I love Christmas almost as much as I loathe Jackson Pearce.”

Emma and Jackson are from two feuding families in their small town of Strawberry Hollow. The feud has been going on for over 30 years between their two families that dates back to when their parents first met. Now every year, the two families try to one-up each other’s Christmas parties. This year, Emma has been giving the reins to plan her family’s annual party but things go off the rails quickly when she has an altercation with Jackson. While fighting over a nutcracker, Emma falls back into a glass display and wrecks thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. Her and Jackson are thrown in jail overnight together and other feelings start to come out while they’re trapped in the small cell together…

The town sheriff, and all of the residents really, are tired of the two families fighting and so Emma and Jackson’s punishment is a forced Christmas party that they have to plan and throw together. While planning for the holiday party, Emma and Jackson realize there is something more underneath all of that loathing and tension. We get fun holiday party planning shenanigans, a roadtrip in a blizzard which ends in a motel stay with only one room left, and Emma and Jackson thinking they can give in to “one night only”!

3⭐️ This was good enough, I guess?

I'm unimpressed tbh. I read Maren Moore's Holiday Novella last year as well, and I also didn't love it. So maybe it's just a me thing and this author and I just don't click.

I liked the plot well enough, and the fact that there's no third act breakup. Seriously, that was amazing. But there were moments that didn't really make sense to me, and I thought both mcs gave me the ick for completely different reasons, but still.

I'm sure this will be an enjoyable read to lots of people, but to me it just felt really forgettable, if that makes sense.

The second book in the Strawberry Hollow series, this one is a fantastic Romeo & Juliet, enemies to lovers retelling, dual POV story that sees the children of two long time fueding families forced to finally bury the hatchet and plan their small town Christmas party together. Despite the sweet looking cover, this book is QUITE SPICY, full of snowed in, only one bed moments and lots of forced proximity goodness. While this was a touch insta love for my tastes and based on a miscommunication trope, it was only to be expected for a Christmas novella under 200 pages. It can also be read as a standalone and I'm looking forward to devouring The mistletoe bet next!

A Festive Feud is a great book to get you in the holiday spirit. The author created a compelling narrative of forgiveness and going for what you want even if others will judge you for it. The tension between Emma and Jackson developed from hate to love in an eloquent manner.

The character development was spot on, not only for our MCs but also for the corresponding families. I thought that the pace of the storytelling was perfect. This book had the right amount of spiciness and holiday spirit. You will read this book and be left with a sense of happiness and completion at the end.

Hallmark vibes but make it spicy 🥵🎄🎅🏼🎁🎊

Maren never disappoints. Here is another great Christmas novella to get you in the mood. This was so heartwarming, light and cozy. And you know what made this even better ? The spicy scenes. Emma and Jackson will heat things up for you during these cold times.

“God, I am such a slut for this man.” Me too🧎🏻‍♀️

“I want to see you take my 🐓 the way you take my fingers. Stretching around me while I fill you with my c*m.”

“Hands on the mirror, Emma. Eyes on me. I want you to watch me eat your perfect little 🐱. And I need you to be a good girl and be quiet, or everyone on the other side of that door is going to know what I’m doing. That you’re soaking my face.”

“She’s fucking exquisite, an actual work of art, and I’m desperate for a taste.”

“Your 🐱 is dripping, Snowflake. Such a good, dirty girl…”

I don’t know if I’ll survive another year without a man written by Maren.

I am entering my holiday romance era and A Festive Feud by Maren Moore is the perfect start to the season! This is an enemies to lovers rom com take on Romeo and Juliet! It was just so adorable but also at the same time, delicious spicy. Emma and Jackson went from generations old small town enemies to reluctant co party planner to falling in love And it was just so cute and my heart is just so happy!

The Pearce and The Worthington family rivalry started over a Christmas party and spilled over into everything. They host two parties now and try to outshine each other. Jackson and Emma got into an altercation over a Nutcracker in the general store that led to some damage and then a night in jail and then..ultimatum by the mayor. They have to organise a joint party this year forgetting the animosity. Emma and Jackson both thought it would be impossible..but it turns out that they have lots of repressed chemistry!

Emma and Jackson are polar opposites. Emma is a planner, a perfectionist and a rule follower. It came from constantly trying to live up to her rich and snobby family's expectations and getting their approval. The annual Christmas party is a tradition and she was so anxious not to fail. Specially when Jackson came into the play. Now Jackson is oh so dreamy book boyfriend material. He comes from a less affluent but a lot more loving family that emphasises on kindness and fairness and hard work. He is a bit rough on the edges and his intensity is panty melting hot. He looks at life in a simple way. Though the party is an important thing, he wants it to be about fun and celebration and family time! He was always attracted to Emma and he wanted to break her perfect exterior to find the real woman inside. And oh boy did he find a sassy vixen there or not! They teased and taunted and locked horns so much but who doesn't know hate is the perfect foreplay. With Jackson, she could let herself go, be a lot more carefree and do all kinds of exciting things. And Jackson realised she is no ice princess. She is beautiful and hot inside out! The chemistry will melt your kindle..because sweet Emmy disappears when it comes to sex and I absolutely love the growling dirty talking sexy alpha! The family Feud finally came to an end after the Christmas party and there was a cute happily ever after. A Festive Feud by Maren Moore is the perfect read to set the holiday mood.

ARC Review

Pub Date: 11/16/23

4/5✨ 3/5🌶

Merry Smuttmess, Maren is back again with a big red bow! She’s revisiting the small town of Strawberry Hollow once again with A Festive Feud for Jackson and Emma's story!

Their story begins with an old-standing family feud as we discover that, for years, they have taken over the town by storm with their annual Christmas parties. As each parent is known for their holiday affairs, so is the hatred between the two families. But as Emma and Jackson, the two kids, now find themselves in a full-on Grinch and the Who situation, they are forced into a jail cell together. Their punishment is being handcuffed together and forced to plan their parties together. But as the ice starts to melt between them, they soon put their hatred aside and are drawn to each other.

Jackson, aka Luke from Gilmore Girls, is known as the man for getting his hands dirty and his old truck—I was not expecting how hot this man was; from his amber eyes, to his extremely dirty mouth, and to his golden retrievers. I am contemplating moving to Strawberry Hollow specifically to be with him.

Emma is a type A personality who is primarily recognized for her Louis Vuitton, sticky notes, and interior design. I loved witnessing her discover her happiness and uncovering her softer side. Despite coming from different worlds, these two are just dirty and filthy, but they are absolutely adorable. But one night, isn't enough. They make the perfect pair as they begin to uncover the pieces.

For this holiday season, Maren truly went all out from the banter to the small town shenanigans. She made this the perfect enemies to lovers and quite spicy novella. However, if you're anything like me and you're itching to watch Elf and go purchase decorations, then you'll want to pick this one up tomorrow.

I'm entirely way too hungover to write a well thought out review, so I'll just say that this gave all the Hallmark vibes but it was even better because this was pretty spicy too lol.

Def recommend if you're looking for a fun, short holiday read.
