This one was fun enough. We follow Alexander and his 3 brothers who head to Aspen for the holidays to escape England. He meets Haven, who is first working at a bar and then sees her the next day at a local Christmas tree farm she works at too.
Alexander comes off grumpy at first and especially towards Christmas (because of his father’s death in the past). We get loads of holiday antics, an annual gingerbread competition, cozy dates, the four brothers antics (which the upcoming series will be following), he visits her at work and spends lots of money to prove to her he doesn’t hate Christmas, and fun vacation fling vibes. I wasn’t as sold on Alexander and seeing them as a couple, I was mostly here for the Christmasy vibes and tree farm....more

T3.5 stars. December Midnights is a holiday novella, small town, grumpy x sunshine, soulmates, and has a bit of winter solstice magic and matchmaking!
This takes place in Maine and is the story of Aurora + Gray. They definitely have an immediate connection to one another and it was so fun seeing that spark between them and realizing how perfect they are together. He’s a former pro baseball player who suffered from an injury and is grumpy. He comes to Maine, to the place where his parents met years ago, and becomes a new business partner for Timekeeper Inn. She knows December is her month to find her HEA and as soon as she sees Gray, she knows it’s going to be him!
We get protective vibes and some “no one talks to her like that” moments. Their romance is both sweet and spicy and I liked their meet cute moment when she asks him to help taste test some baked goods in the kitchen. Audiobook is narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Tor Thom!...more

We get multiple moments throughout their history of knowing one another (which by the way is since he was born because she is besties with his older sister), and it all just felt so well developed and like a full-length story vs the novella it actually is.

She’s a comic book illustrator who has been crushing on her upstairs neighbor. When her building is throwing a Santa-themed party, it is the perfect time for sparks to fly! And then she finds out he’s actually been into her too and trying to surprise her, but she just didn’t notice! We only get her POV and it would have been fun seeing his too, but for this novella I already feel like we got a lot for the little page count it actually is. Super fun!

ThChanel Cleeton has easily become one of the my favorite new-to-me authors recently and I’ve just been on a binge of all of her historical fictions. The House on Biscayne Bay was the last one I had to get to and this one was different than the others, but still so good! I had such a good time reading this one.
This book is described as perfect for fans of Rebecca, which is one of my favorite books. This delivers on lush, gothic vibes, it has a dash of romance, the setting is a gilded estate, we get dual timeline (1910s & 1940s in Florida), its atmospheric, and we get not one but multiple murder mysteries!
The lives of two women intertwine as the past and present collide at Marbrisa—a glamorous, gothic estate on Biscayne Bay. In the 1910s we follow Anna. After the Great War, thousands of business moguls flocked to South Florida with their sights set on making a fortune, including Anna and her husband, a wealthy industrialist. We see her husband’s obsession with the building of Marbrisa and their want to join Miami society. In the 1940s timeline we follow Carmen who has recently left Havana to visit her estranged older sister Carolina who lives at Marbrisa with her husband. Both timelines have mysteries to unravel!

Wow. This book was so powerful and hits you in all the feels. I was immediately drawn into the author’s writing and could tell really quickly into the read that this was going to be an amazing book. This is definitely a heavy hitter of a story, but it’s just written so well and I want to read everything now from this author. The audiobook in particular was amazing and this book had me crying multiple times.
Take My Hand is a story inspired by true events that rocked the nation. It tells the story of a Black nurse in post-segregation Alabama (Montgomery, 1973) who blows the whistle on a terrible injustice done to her patients. Civil is fresh out of nursing school and working at Montgomery Family Planning Clinic and she gets pulled into the lives of her first patients, who are just 11 and 13 years old.

The Nightmare Before Kissmas was so much fun! This was described as The Nightmare Before Christmas meets Red, White & Royal Blue (a book I thought was only okay) and so I went in with kinda low-but still excited-expectations and was so pleasantly surprised! It totally gave all the NBC vibes but also delivered on so much more.
This is a mm romance centered around holiday courts in a world that feels contemporary but is very obviously fantastical. I really enjoyed the way the holidays work in this world, basically all the holidays are kind of their own courts and have their own prince and princesses and have heirs and all the royal court things. There is also like holiday politics involved with other holiday courts and I was just so invested with how it would all work out.
Nicholas “Coal” Claus is the heir to the Santa namesake and the Prince of Christmas. He has made a lot of mistakes and caused a lot of scandals, so he’s currently on his father’s (aka Santa’s) naughty list. But Coal’s presence is requested home for the holidays where he’s thrown front and center when his dad calls for press and surprises everyone with an announcement that Coal is courting Iris, the Easter Princess, and an engagement will be coming soon. The only problem is Coal is very much not courting Iris, who happens to be his best friend, and they have zero plans to marry. Things get even more complicated when the Halloween court finds out about the possible merger between Christmas and Easter so they say it’s only fair they send in Hex, the Halloween Prince, and toss him in as a possible suitor for the Easter Princess’ hand too. But instead, Hex and Coal are the ones falling for another!
This book sounds so wildly quirky and bonkers, but it was so entertaining and fun. I was invested in the politics between the holiday courts and all the royal things happening. The romance and characters were good too, but I do think I was more invested in the plot overall cause it was just so fun and strong! Very much filled with alllll the holidays, in the best way. I’m excited now for more coming in this world....more
