Mad About You

Rate this book
Julie Miller wants one thing, and she wants it now: a trophy. Not just any trophy: the First Prize Trophy for the San Francisco Flower Competition. She may not have the classical training of her nemesis, who’s won the last five titles, but this is her year and she’s taking no prisoners. Only when a sexy man walks right up to her and kisses the breath out of her, Julie wonders if there’s a spark inside for more than just rose petals. The men in Scott Wright’s family always know their true love by her kiss… and Scott’s kissed a lot of women. Most only want him for his money and status—until Julie. Only she’s so focused on winning her trophy that he’s afraid she’s going to miss the true prize: love.

Kate has tangoed at midnight with a man in blue furry chaps, dueled with flaming swords in the desert, and strutted on bar tops across the world and back. She’s been kissed under the Eiffel Tower, had her butt pinched in Florence, and been serenaded in New Orleans. But she found Happy Ever After in San Francisco with her Magic Man.

Kate’s the bestselling author of the Laurel Heights Novels, as well as the Family and Love and Guardians of Destiny series. She’s been translated into several languages and is quite proud to say she’s big in Slovenia. All her books are about strong, independent women who just want love.

Most days, you can find Kate in her favorite café, working on her latest novel. Sometimes she’s wearing a tutu. She may or may not have a jeweled dagger strapped to her thigh...

How this book got such a high rating is beyond me. I found both heroes absolutely deplorable. I’m sorry, but a man who sends a complete stranger a corset he bought a year ago for his dream woman just because he thinks she will “fill it out nicely” is not romantic to me, not even if he says he bought said corset for the woman he was going to marry some day. Sorry, but that is just... I don’t think there’s even a word for how wrong and disturbing that is. I mean he sees her at a fashion show, thinks she will look good a corset he just has lying around and sends it to her? Without knowing anything about her but her name? And then he wonders why the woman calls him crazy? He should be lucky she didn’t file for a restraining order and kick him, really hard. And seriously, calling a woman “bat shit crazy” (his words) because she doesn’t think turning up at her workplace wearing a bow and telling her that he knows she wants to “unwrap him” (again, his words)in front of all her co-workers is romantic is just... Again, there are no words.
The other one was almost equally bad. He sees a perfect stranger at a fashion show, marches up to her, kisses her and proclaims that she’s “The One” and that he’s going to marry her, (after one kiss and on their first date no less...), all the while withholding the fact that he’s one of the richest people in town (and yes, I get why someone called Preston Carrington-Wright the Third would prefer going by Scott Wright, but still, when you inform a perfect stranger that you’re going to ask her to marry him someday soon, you should at least tell her who you are in my opinion). The poor woman has to find that out from his mother, because she works for her. I’m sorry, but neither story qualifies as even remotely romantic for me.

(Disclaimer: I’m not an English native speaker. I’d like to apologize for any mistakes in advance!)

After "Mad about You" I won't read another book of the Laurel Heights series becaus it has gotten so lame.

In this book there are two "love stories". Both heros are bossy, creepy, controling stalkers! How can women consider them as Prince Charming? Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

I have loved this series by Kate Perry but I have to say that this one fell short for me. It seemed to me that this had been written in a hurry and the plot was lacking compared to others in the series.

Sorry, but I was disappointed.

I love, love these kinds of books. They keep me wanting to read more by this author. I enjoyed Julie and Scott’s story it was real and at times raw. I definitely recommend this book or anything by this author.

Every book in this series so far has followed the same formula and while the books are entertaining, there is really nothing life changing or very memorable about them. Each book centers on one main couple and then a sort of side couple and they each wind up with their own HEA. I have found myself more interested in the side couple than the main at times.

I manage to keep stumbling across books that I don't realize are the later parts of a series until I sit down to add them to my "currently reading" list. This is #9 of the Laurel Heights series, apparently. I have no idea what the rest of the books are about.

But, from what I can tell, this is another one of those romance series that are focused more on telling the stories of people in a location, rather than a group of friends.

There are two stories going on at the same time in this book - the first is an adorable romance between Julia and Scott, and the second is a weird romance between a soon-to-be-ex-wrestler named Bull and the object of his affections, Josephine.

The Julia and Scott story is cute - it's about love at first sight, getting by on your own merits, realizing what's truly important in life, and evil florists.

The Bull and Josephine story is about reluctant love at first sight, not judging people based on their appearance, and sending women you barely know a corset and panties.

I really liked Julia's story. Her entire story, not just the romance aspect of it, although Scott was a lot of fun, as well. She didn't want her relationship with Scott to be seen as her sleeping her way to the top, she wanted to be sure that she could win the flower competition because she was good enough to win it on her own. And when she has that dream in her grasp, she realizes that victory feels hollow, because she had to drive away the person she loved in order to get a trophy.

Bull and Josephine, though...I don't know, man. The whole corset and panties thing was weird, and there wasn't really any growth shown between the two until the very end of the story, when Josephine admits out of the blue that she really does love Bull, and she just didn't want to get into a relationship that would end up being as horrible as her previous ones.

Maybe the whole corset and panties thing was explained in another one of the books, and I'm missing some sort of context? With absolutely nothing to go on, though, it was just kind of creepy. And all of the other characters think so, as well, so I know it's not just me.

This one starts at the same event that the last ended: Valentine's wedding reception. I was a bit confused at first thinking I was reading the wrong book, but it only goes for a few pages then splits off.

The main romance is Julie the florist and Scott (Prescott Carrington-Wright III). She's caught up in a major floral competition. At first she doesn't know who he really is, then when she finds out, his mother is a judge and he's rich and... well, you know how it goes. He's very patient and his mom turns out to be her 'fairy godmother'. (I bet we all had future mother-in-laws like that.)

The other romance is between Kelly 'Bull' Torres, Ethan's MMA friend, and Josephine, an Asian art expert that he met at the wedding reception. The beginning of their romance gets off to a rough start as he has barely any dating skills and is very forthright and abrupt, but his heart is kind and he really likes her. He is also trying to transition into a different occupation, so his mind is split.

They are both handled very well and the other characters are interesting. Though Zoe's is a bit vague, making me wonder if Ms. Perry is thinking about her for a future book. And Dr. Gardener was a dissapointment at the end.

Faveorite scene: Not a scene but a person. I LOVE Elise Carrington-Wright, Scott's mom! Every scene she's in puts a smile on my face.

I've only read one other in the "Laurel Heights" series and that was "Looking For You" which I quite enjoyed as a breezy summer read. So I was interested when I found more of Kate Perry's books on the "Free Download" list through iBooks. And I guess you get what you pay for.

This book was a huge disappointment compared to the other I'd previously read. Now, I'm not fooled into believing I'm going to be reading a classic when I started reading this - I was looking for a light, easy and quick read. These stories are all the same - they begin with a meet cute/opposites attract; the couple starts to get to know each other and date; then comes the inevitable "misunderstanding" which leads to a breakup, a makeup and of course, ultimately the happily ever after.

I was confused why there were two couples intertwined into this book and kept waiting for more of a connection other than Scott and Bull meeting during both "misunderstanding" phases. They interact for what? 1 page? I felt a little cheated. I think perhaps if Ms. Perry had spent more time fleshing out each couple separately, I might have enjoyed this book more.

I've loved all of the Laurel Heights books that I've read so far, so I'm sad that I had to struggle with this one.

I liked Scott and his no-nonsense way that he went about meeting Julie. And I liked Julie, from knowing her from Sophie's story, and I even liked Elise's and Alexis' interactions with both Scott and Julie, but I never felt any connection at all with the other featured couple in the book. I felt nothing at all for "Bull" and Josephine and actually dreaded when the chapters focused on their story.

I try to read my series in order, but I've been out of whack with Laurel Heights. I've already read book #10, so I know the series does get back on track for me so I'll definitely go back and read the few others that I've missed along the way and will hopefully will enjoy them more than I did this one.

The love for Laurel Heights continues.

I love Julie. She's different and unique and works hard for her passion and her career. There's the saying there's a special woman for a special man. I love that Scott feels it upon seeing Julie even when she is so different from the women in his sphere. It's like he doesnt even care enough to spend a minute comparing.

The downside is Julie's life is so busy and the so many scenes of her competitor popping up at her store could have been better used to let us spend more time with the couple.

The secondary couple Bull & Josephine is interesting too. She judged him too harshly and too superficially. It's great his tenacity lets her get to know him and realise he's not that crazy but sincerely crazy about her.

Fun read and i love how Julie and Scott's story is nicely wrapped up.

In Kate Perry's Mad About You, the 9th installment in the Laurel Heights contemporary romance series, she wrote to us a very good story about two people who sought out their own soul-mate. For Julie Miller, a florist, she fell in love for Scott Wright at first sight, a son of a rich legendary family, at a fashion sight. For Scott, he would do everything to woo her and make her his own, right after his sister's wedding. But Julie only wanted to win the floral competition and beat her bitter rival, when she learned the hard way about love and going for her dreams. As for Bull Torres, a former MMA fighter, he wanted to woo Josephine Belle Williams, who worked a museum as a curator and was stubborn as well. But since he now wanted to sell smoothies, he didn't give up until she cave in.

Every time a new Laurel Heights book comes out, I'm tempted to re-read the whole series. Often times I do, even if I'm chomping at the bit to read the new one. This new release in this series is another great love story for Kate Perry. I really liked Julie and Scott's journey to find love and each other. The often used theme of two people from different backgrounds and different social stations attracted to each other didn't fall flat with these two. This is a love at first sight story, which really made a believer out of me. I also loved the side story of Bull and Joey, which also had the love at first sight theme. This book is full of fun, love, heat and passion. A definite must read!

Insta-love on Steroids.

Both storylines have to do with love at first sight. You just have to go with it.

Julie, the florist, meets Scott the venture capitalist of Nicole's lingerie line. He kisses her within 30 seconds of introducing himself and he falls for her. On their first date he tells her he's going to marry her.

Bull Torres is Nicole's friend (Ethan's best friend in Tamed by You) sees Joey during N's lingerie launch and must have her. She thinks he's crazy and their story is about how much he pursues her and how much she plays hard to get.

Probably the lightest of the series so far, but crazy fun, nonetheless.

I just love the Laurel Heights series and desperately wish I had a town as such to live in!

The book was good and I enjoyed that Kate did a male lead for the secondary love story. It was a pleasant change.

I'm not 100% in love with this book like all of the previous ones. Freyas story was still the best. I enjoyed the cheeky sex scenes in the book but I feel like there was much less sex than the other books. (I'm not a Perv but hey what do you expect when all the other books were more sex crazed)

Now I say KTs love story should be next!

The primary couple in this was Scott and Julie, while the secondary story was about Bull and Joey. I had a bit of trouble jumping between the two storylines. While they finally did blend on the business side, I felt that the two stories were shortchanged; even though Bull's character was too over the top for my taste, I think his story would have been better served as a novella.

Love Kate Perry's work, but this one fell short. (Please note I'm not mentioning the editing errors... :P)

I've read several of the other books in this series, and thought they were cute, sweet romances. A little fluffy, but complete stories.

This one just didn't do it for me - it told 2 stories at the same time, and I felt like we only got partial stories for both of these couples. One couple's story felt like a bare bones 'cliff notes' version of a romance tale.

That said it won't keep me from reading more in the series, but I felt like this was 2 uber-short novellas stuck together in an odd way.

Another great read

Another great read

I have read all of this series and loved them all.

My only complaint is that it takes a couple of chapters to get the right couples names sorted and matched in my head. I like that Ms Perry has such lovable characters but I wish she would only have one couple per book. They are not long stories and I feel a little short changed on getting to know the feelings and connections between them.

I love this author and will keep reading everything she writes.

I'm giving this one three stars because, while it didn't wow me, it was an okay read. It has a love at first sight theme and has two romances going on, but it took me awhile to get into the story. I didn't feel very connected to any of the characters and actually set it aside for awhile before going back to it.

That said, this was my first Kate Perry read. After I'd started it, I realized it was #9 in her Laural Heights series. The writing was good enough that I'll give Ms. Perry another try.

So this book could have been better. There were two stories going on that, except for a couple of intermingling with a couple of characters, were completely separate. Every other chapter was one of the stories. The first was the better one, the second just creepy. Both were supposed to be romance. Another problem was that there was way too much descriptive sex at the beginning. The second half of the book had no sex and was much better to read - no having to skip so much. Definitely won't read anymore.

I have read most of the Laurel Heights series. I have loved every book I have read by Kate Perry including Mad About You. I loved Julie and Scott's story. They come from different parts of the world, but Julie has to determine if she can fit into Scott's world. Scott is determined to prove that she will. Bull and Josephine are also touched on on this book. I would loved to have read more of their story. Bull is a former MMA fighter and has set his sights on Josephine. He is strongly attracted to Josephine and what Bull wants; Bull gets!!
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Julie & Scott

This is one of my favorite couples so far. He is so charming you can't help but fall for the guy.
Julie I found to be guarded but open to the possibility and I think that's why I liked this book so much.
I mean I know she fought her feelings and sure she strayed but it to me was a natural reaction to a man of Scott’s stature.

Joey & Bull

Now this story had so much potential and it feel flat for me. I wanted to love it because I like Bull's character but I just didn't believe this story like I did with the others. :(

Loved the way Julie and Scott met. It was nice to read about someone who has money but wanted to just have a normal life. Julie made Scott feel normal and she liked him for who he was and not for his money or name. They had there challenges but they made it through the end.

Also, liked how we read of Bull finding his women. He is crazy about the way he tries to get Josephine to be his woman and win her heart too.

Can't wait to see what happens next!!! :)

A Laurel Heights Novel, Book 9 - and only one left (for now, I hope so).
All I can say is that I can't wait for the next one (and next, and next). With these books you can not get bored.
I can't put it down. I don't know which story was more addicting. Bull and Josephine Belle, with his magic corset for his chosen (as the story of Cinderella), or Scott and Julie, with his kiss a stranger: as sparks fly, they are meant to be.

Now is time for shy KT.

I've really enjoyed this series, but this is #9 and I am hoping it wraps up soon as this was easily my LEAST favorite. Actually it was the ONLY one I've disliked so far.
Both relationships were rushed and completely unbelievable. I know there's always an element of love at first sight with this genre, but these were absurd. Meh, I'll keep going with the series but hope the author gets back to what she does really well; building up the characters and the story.

As always Kate Perry pulls out all the stops. I absolutely adore Laurel Heights and it's Community. The two stories and four main.characters merge together beautifully. Again I found it a little short and I hope that the last book of the series will be a little longer so we can.say goodbye properly :-)

I thought it was really cool to read about Julie. I remember reading another one of Kate Perry's books that had her in it as a teen working at the shop and now in this one, she is the owner! She still has that funkiness i liked about her but this time she is more mature and dealing with different issues. Finds her true love and does other amazing things.

Cute Chick Lite Romance, I love Laurel Heights. Amused how fast the folks in this series fall in love but I enjoy the read a lot. This book was cute Scott Wright walks up to Julie Miller asks her name and kisses the heck out of her then plans to marry her and he doesn't even know her. Kind of quirky romantic fun. Sexy and fun read.
