Firstly, my name isn't T A. It's Trevor. I write under the androgynous name T A Williams because 65% of books are read by women. In my first book, "What Happens in Devon" one of the (female) characters suggests the imbalance is due to the fact that men spend too much time getting drunk and watching football. The answer is not now. I had a yellow lab and then a black Labrador, the best dog in the whole wide world, but he died and my wife told me she couldn't go through that again so we haven't had a dog since. Dogs are fully paid up members of the family and losing him was a terrible wrench for both of us. That's why I try to put a black lab into every book as a homage to him.

It's really nice of you to take the time to contact me. As far as romance is concerned, the place is really far less important than the person but there are, I have to admit, a few places that do definitely lend themselves to romance. I suppose my number one would probably be Venice. There is something about the place – as well as romance, there is history, culture, tradition and just the sheer outstanding beauty of it. As far as my own personal experience of romance is concerned, I met my wife in the classroom (before you write to the authorities, I should point out that I was teaching adults in an evening class) so maybe a classroom should be added to the list after Venice.
