Jovette Marchessault (Montréal, 9 février 1938 - 31 décembre 2012) est une romancière, poète, dramaturge, peintre et sculpteure québécoise issue d'un milieu ouvrier, d'origine Indienne métisse (Montagnais, Innu). En tant qu'artiste, elle s'était d'abord fait remarquer par ses peintures, ses sculptures, et ses fresques, lesquelles ont été présentées autant au Québec qu'à Toronto, New York, Paris et Bruxelles. Parallèlement à sa carrière en arts visuels, Marchessault a entrepris l'écriture d'une trilogie romanesque et de nombreux textes dramatiques.
