Well, the main character is a 23-year-old high school teacher - like I once was. She's woefully underprepared - like I once was. And she's a very idealistic hippie - like I once was.

The three main teen characters are Gertie, an anxious kid (like I was); Rachel, a religious girl with a naughty streak (like I was); and Sivan, a queer kid who is passionate about social justice (like I was - I didn't know about the queer part then, but I would've gravitated to Sivan). They visit places I've visited as a teen and as an adult.

I think it's easier to write fiction, actually. It's emotionally easier to just make stuff up out of thin air. I suppose I could argue it's easier to just write out real stories of what happened in my life, and I suppose that's true from a purely labor-intensive perspective. But memoir is emotionally quite draining at times. I never thought I'd say this, but at the moment I actually prefer fiction.(less)

Checketry MP3 Download

Checketry – the free download manager for gamers – announces that it is working on a feature that will allow users to convert video to an mp3 download.

There are potentially millions of users who use current existing MP4 to MP3 converters and having a built in feature that allows users to convert their files would be a great addition. The feature would be an overlay on the screen that allows users

“A girl crush is different from being gay. A girl crush is like when one girl is so into another girl that it's almost sexual, but not quite. A girl crush is way creepier than being gay, which is not at all creepy and in fact is completely awesome, in case you were wondering.”
Sara Benincasa, Great

“You’ll make better art after a day at the office than you will after a lifetime in an ivory tower.”
Sara Benincasa, Real Artists Have Day Jobs:

“It's like there's this knowledge hanging in the air that one person has more power than the other, and we're supposed to pretend everything is nice and normal and equal, but in reality, luck or chance has showered benefits on one person that the other person couldn't dream of.”
Sara Benincasa, Great

Cynthia Dunn Sara, thanks for the "friending." As a person who has suffered pretty much her whole life with panic and anxiety, I loved your book. I am amazed at all you were able to accomplish. Looking forward to your new books.
