Alas, the rumor is true, Susan was a dental hygienist in her previous career. However, she "retired" from that profession many years ago and has been a full-time author ever since--thanks to all of you fabulous readers.

Susan grew up in a small Indiana town, married a guy from that town, and then moved to Chicago for a while. She is pleased to say that she has been back in her hometown for many years and plans to stay.

She's received a RITA, two National Reader's Choice Awards and a SIBA Award for Fiction. Her books include an Indie Next Pick, Okra Picks, a Target Book Club pick, and are popular with book clubs.

THE MYTH OF PERPETUAL SUMMER will be released June 19, 2018.

Hi Sharon. Thanks for sharing your love for WPTG. It always makes my day to hear Starla and Eula have made a new friend.
As to the sequel, never say never. It's percolating around in the back of my mind, so there's a possibility I'll revisit those characters in the future.
I appreciate your readership and your interest!(less)

As for that sequel, I'm not planning on returning to her story at this time. I have given the idea a lot of thought, however, so it's always possible.
Again, thank you!

Writing Extracurriculars

When you think of an author, you think of one who writes books. Which, of course, is true. But there are many other activities that go hand in hand with researching, writing and promoting a book. Writing is pretty self-explanatory: a writer, his/her writing device, a semi-coherent brain (most of the time).

Research has many forms: books, videos, digging through old newspapers, road trips, nagging e Read more of this blog post »

“My daddy always said being brave wasn’t not being scared. Being brave was keeping going when you were.”
Susan Crandall, Whistling Past the Graveyard

“My daddy says that when you do somethin' to distract you from your worstest fears, it's like whistlin' past the graveyard. You know, making a racket to keep the scaredness and the ghosts away. He says that's how we get by sometimes. But it's not weak, like hidin'...it's strong. It means you're able to go on.”
Susan Crandall, Whistling Past the Graveyard

“God's job ain't to make our lives easier, it's to make us better souls by the lessons He gives us.”
