Karen Kovacik is a poet and translator of contemporary Polish poetry. She grew up in Highland, Indiana, and lived and worked in Warsaw, Poland during the mid 1980s. Her translations of contemporary Polish poetry have appeared in American Poetry Review, Boston Review, Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, Mid-American Review, Southern Review, and West Branch. Her first book, Beyond the Velvet Curtain, won the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize.

Kovacik served as Indiana's Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2014. She currently teaches at Indiana's Purdue University in Indianapolis.
