There are popular comics posted online right now that make use of stick figures, simple drawings, and even photos with captions. If you want to make comics, don't let anything stop you.

The next point is that your drawing skills will improve the more you draw. Taking a class, learning from a book, and simply sketching from references are all good ways to keep practicing. The important thing is to draw every day. I can't recommend any specific books because most of my experiences came from taking art classes at my university, but the internet is an incredible resource. Try looking up tutorials for things you want to draw - cars, pets, female characters, etc. Look at the way your favorite artists draw these things and see what stylistic elements you'd like to try.

My final word of advice is to expose yourself to all kinds of comics! Read comic books at the library, read newspaper comics, look up new webcomics online, and buy copies of comics you love. The more you read, the more you'll see what other comic artists are up to. You might be inspired to try new things in your own comics.

I know "read a lot" and "practice drawing a lot" aren't very specific recommendations, but the range of comics is so vast that I think it's more beneficial to explore what you like on your own and make more of it. Good luck!(less)
