Bella addormentata

The new film by Marco Bellocchio, an acclaimed director who participated in the Venice Film Festival competition, is a mosaic of tales, some closely, and some loosely connected to Eluana Englaro and her story. She has been in a coma for seventeen years, and she remains alive thanks to machines. The film follows a senator deciding whether to vote for a bill that conflicts with his conscience; his daughter, Maria, demonstrating against euthanasia in front of the hospital where Eluana is kept; and Roberto, who captures Maria's heart but who defends the opposite barricade. Depicting the actress’s last six days, the picture explores the meaning and essence of life.
