- Synopsis
- A young Irish guitarist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and a cellist (Keri Russell) spend a romantic and unforgettable summer night in New York, but chance separates them. From their brief encounter is born August (Freddie Highmore), a boy who, by a fateful destiny, ends up in an orphanage, where he spends a harsh childhood. Only eleven years old, he earns his living as a street musician, under the tutelage of a sinister and Dickensian character (Robin Williams) who tries to exploit him. The boy soon reveals himself as a brilliant musician, a new Mozart, who will use his talent to try to find his parents.

- Critics' reviews
-
-
"Unapologetically preposterous, but it is a (very sweet) fairy tale and Highmore is captivating"
-
"Will not be for everyone, but it works if you surrender to its lilting and unabashedly sentimental tale"
-
"The story is about musicians and how music connects people, so the movie's score and songs, created by composers Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer, give poetic whimsy to an implausible tale"
-
"Only auds immune to diabetic rushes should head for August Rush, though tolerant parents wanting wholesome entertainment for the kids will like it for its repetitive encouragement of creativity"
