Claycia turned to some ancient blueprints in order to sculpt this new enemy. She even used ancient clay to give it that old world feel, but don't tell Hooplagoon that. He thinks he's all cool and modern.
— Figurine description from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Hooplagoon is a Boss from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, appearing at the end of both Yellow Dunes and Orange Woodland. He was built by Claycia using ancient clay, and tasked to destroy any intruders he encountered.

Characteristics[edit]

Hooplagoon is a round creature, similar in shape to a Blado. He has four rotating shields around him (one of which is metal) and also sports golden goggles over his eyes. Underneath the shields are a number of spinning gears and cogs which power the beast, and allow him to fire lasers from four prongs between the shields.

Battle[edit]

Claycia had to mix new clay with old clay in order to repair Hooplagoon after his last battle, so it's been quite a process. But Hooplagoon was willing to endure just about anything to face Kirby one more time.
— Second Figurine description from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Hooplagoon attacks by floating around the arena and firing lasers from his prongs. He can also generate an electric field around himself in certain instances.

To defeat Hooplagoon, Kirby has to dash into his shields to break them one-by-one. Every time a shield is broken, Hooplagoon grows in size and starts moving more quickly, making the remaining shields more difficult to hit and more durable. The last metal shield can only be broken using a Star Dash. As such, the main aim for Kirby is to avoid Hooplagoon's laser and spark attacks, then aim for an intact shield when the coast is clear.

Hooplagoon is fought twice: first in Hooplagoon, Relic of the Ruins, and then second in Hooplagoon of the Lake. The second time, he bears a different color scheme and has a scuba mask, as the fight takes place underwater. Apart from those details, the battle is largely the same as the first.

Trivia[edit]

  • Strangely, Hooplagoon's internal artwork from the stage select screen depicts him without his metal shield (instead all four are the same standard ones).
