- They? As far as I know, RfA doesn't come with bulk candidates in one application. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 14:17, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- See Singular they. Pedro : Chat 14:20, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Actually that makes a lot of sense, haha. Sorry. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 14:29, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I use it quite often because I can't stand "his or her", and most people seem to follow the trend. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Personally I prefer "the candidate" if I don't know the gender, because I don't like implying plurality. Useight (talk) 17:56, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- American style guides (AP Stylebook, Chicago) advise against both "his or her" (etc.) and the "singular they". Of course, we have to deal with the context of anonymity more often than journalists do, so I cut people some slack in both directions, but I try to rephrase when I can ("the candidate"), or poke around trying to find out if they've committed to a gender. - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 18:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I try to use non clunky neutral gender phraseology myself, sometimes in Real Life use she/he though am really not keen on the singular they. But "IMHO these two diffs demonstrate the wrong attitude." would have been gender neutral. WereSpielChequers 18:53, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks
[edit]Thanks to everyone who participated in either my successful RfA or the trial run, whether you supported, opposed or remained neutral. Special thanks to I'm Spartacus! and Cyclonenim for nominating me, and for those of you who treated this as a !vote not a vote and altered your positions as the discussions developed. I am deeply humbled by the trust that the community has put in me. I'd also like to thank my tallybots, the closing crats, the vandalfighters who wiped vandalism from my RFA, the users who initially welcomed me and who gave me rollback, everyone whose worked with me here, those who created the various guides and tools for aspirant admins, the Lolcat who nommed me in my first RFA and everyone else who has helped make Wikipedia such a wonderful site.
