The result of the discussion was: Textbook WP:NFCC#1/WP:NFCC#8 violation. No prejudice to restoration if the article(s) is/are significantly expanded to explicitly discuss this image in-depth. -FASTILY 22:59, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File:Yagan of the Bibbulmun cover.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Hesperian (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This image is used in two articles - in neither case as a primary form of identification, and as the appearance of the book cover is not discussed, fails the contextual significance portion of WP:NFCC in both places. Hog Farm Talk 00:34, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. In both cases, the book itself is discussed. There is no need for the appearance of the book cover to be discussed. The argument that this is required is akin to "This fair use photo of a person must be deleted because our article on the person does not discuss the appearance of their face." Hesperian 00:48, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • False. The issue here is WP:NFCC. In the case of a person, NFCC #8 (contextual significance) is met because the image would be the primary means of identifying the subject of the article. In both cases of the use of the book cover, the appearance of the book's cover neither identifies the subject of the article, nor adds contextual significance. Hog Farm Talk 00:57, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • We seem to have gotten past "the appearance of the book cover is not discussed"; that's progress. Next I would like us to get past the fallacy that the illustration has to illustrate the subject of the article. That's not true. In each case the book is the subject of the accompanying text. Hesperian 00:42, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Clear violation of WP:NFCC#8 on the author's page, and equally clear violation of WP:NFCC#1 on Yagan where there are a number of equally encyclopedic and free images to represent him. There could possibly be an exception to keep in Revel Cooper if A) there is no free art of his that can be used to illustrate his style and B) there is sourced discussion of his style (I haven't looked into either of these possibilities/requirements at all). @Fastily: I have never heard such utter bollocks as "Textbook WP:NFCC#1 violation." Deletion is not that big a deal, but it's extremely frustrating when the justification given is such bollocks. The book is a significant literary reference to Yagan, and the image was being used to illustrate the "literature and film" section. What's the "free equivalent" here? You must have one in mind since you consider this a "textbook" case. Hesperian 03:11, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File history contains two different images, both of which appear to be copyright violations. The first one could be found at another website prior to the upload to Wikipedia. The second image looks like an official poster and therefore requires VRT permission. I don't believe either image qualifies for fair use because the band appears to be active.
