Ways to improve 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature

Hello, Reading Beans,

Thank you for creating 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Sources don't suggest this particular year's prize is notable separate from the prize itself.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Goldsztajn}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Hello, Reading Beans

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Lordseriouspig, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Adeola Ajayi, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. To prevent the deletion, please add a reference to the article. You may remove the deletion tag yourself once the article has at least one reliable source.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Lordseriouspig}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

@Lordseriouspig, this article did not have serious content problems, you should have waited for atleast one hour before prodding. Best, Reading Beans 13:17, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Reading Beans,

I have reverted your closure of this discussion. I don't see any grounds for a Speedy Keep as outlined in Wikipedia:Speedy keep#Applicability that fits the current status of the discussion. Of particular note, the nominator hasn't withdrawn the nomination and there is a Delete argument to be considered. Please do not close AFDs prematurely. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:16, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

@Liz, I interpreted this as withdrawal but thank you. I was trying to save the community’s time as I don’t see that discussion heading elsewhere but a keep maybe not a SK but definitely a keep. Best, Reading Beans 02:36, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Sometimes

Informed and documented positive lack of action can be the best form of action. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 07:55, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Indeed. Dropping the stick is something I’ve learnt from my early years and it has been fruitful. People go to AN/I these days over nothing and thank you for stepping in, Timtrent, those two could have had themselves banned over nothing. Best, Reading Beans 08:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
As you have pointed out, we have very low numbers of editors from Africa, appallingly few from Nigeria (and a few appalling ones!). Keeping the good ones is important. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 08:28, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Indeed. Very few and it saddens my heart. It truly does. And to think that I almost lost myself earlier this year and looking back now, I’m glad I didn’t. You, Timtrent has always been there and thank you for all you do as always. Best, Reading Beans 08:54, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
I try to relax, only speak after thinking. I do not always succeed! When I speak I speak assertively, and with the authority of any editor in good standing (whatever that means). Sometimes, like Don Quixote, I tilt at windmills, but I usually have some hope of altering something about the windmill. When I fail, I try to fail with good grace. Then I leave the field, I try to leave with my honour intact. I've been known to apologise, too.
The dark art is in knowing when a cause is futile. I have recently hung on much too long in the hope of changing the course of a South African soap actress, paid to write articles on her employer(!), for the better. Finally, I have withdrawn.
You might consider when it is time to withdraw from trying to solve the brouhaha between these two passionate but misguided editors, and to let them tire each other out. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 09:56, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
There are some editors who almost left the project due to constant badgering from experienced editors (even admins!). I remember encouraging these people then and trust me, if I leave this project someday, they’d definitely represent the continent. I shouldn’t bother you with this opinion of mine but I’m usually just happy whenever I remember this. Best, Reading Beans 09:01, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
You have the mixed fortune of sharing your heritage with nests of scammers and vipers and paid editors. Thus you have to be better than any other editor, those of you who hail from Nigeria, for it is far to easy to come to believe that they, not you, represent your nation. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 09:59, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Indeed! . All the best Timtrent! all the best. Best, Reading Beans 14:48, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you both! I'm not entirely sure how it landed on my Talk, but I don't have the on project time to sort it out. Hope both editors are moving in a positive direction now. Star Mississippi 12:34, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
They should by now—hopefully. Stay safe out there Star. Best, Reading Beans 14:49, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Question for clarification

@Reading Beans Thanks for your contributions to my recent articles, especially on ACB Agbazuere. Most appreciated. I also created this page yesterday Emomotimi Agama using Article Creation Wizard, and in the process, I discovered someone had created the name in draft, but actually hadn't written or developed the article. I subsequently wrote the article from scratch (you can check the article's history to confirm). The article was not credited to me in my "Articles created" dashboard. How can I take credit for this? Is there any way it can be transferred to my dashboard as part of articles created by me? Thanks for any feedback you can give. Cfaso2000 (talk) 16:42, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

@Cfaso2000, thank you for contributing to Wikipedia—a collaborative project. Long story short; no, you can’t take “credit” for expanding the article. Even though the XTools shows that I’ve created 300+ articles, I have infact expanded more than 500 articles. A good example would be Ngwa people and Dahiru Musdapher which I expanded and brought to GA. What we do on Wikipedia are meant to be anonymous (my opinion) and it doesn’t matter who take the “credit” for expanding the human knowledge. I hope this helps. Best, Reading of Beans 17:55, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your insight. This is definitely helpful and educative for a newbie. Cfaso2000 (talk) 18:10, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
You’re welcome nwanne. Best, Reading of Beans 19:17, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Another thing, if you leave a message on my talk page, there’s definitely no need to ping me. Mhm? Best, Reading of Beans 17:56, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
