Fair use rationale for Image:Spacehab logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Spacehab logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 00:35, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How (not) to Delete an Article on the German Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello Nicholas, I am an Admin on the German Wikipedia (de:WP). I was rather surprised about this edit of yours. Aside from the fact that you have no admin privileges on de:WP, this is not how we propose a Deletion on de:WP, let alone actually delete an article. Any thoughts? --Minderbinder-de (talk) 18:56, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ooVoo deletion

[edit]

Hi Nick,

Would you mind helping re-establish a non-advertising orientated ooVoo definition and reference. The page was created by consumers interested in sharing knowledge about the company and finding out more about its origins. I work for ooVoo and have helped to maintain the page following examples of similar companies trying to ensure it was not overtly advertorial.

I would appeal that if there were elements that were overtly advertising related, that these elements are removed. Removing the entire reference to the company and service is a little extreme.

Looking forward to your help in this matter.

Best regards,

Philip Robertson. ooVoo Tel: 001 646 300 8743 Email: philip.robertson@oovoo.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.115.10.186 (talk) 16:26, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Armenian to Macosx-allfonts.png

[edit]

Hi Nick,

I'd like to add the Mshtakan font to this list, with a rendition of Armenian. It would be great if you could add the following text to your list:

Mshtakan (Regular Պարզ, Bold Հաստ, Italic Շեղակի, Bold Italic Հաստ Շեղակի)

Thank you. Serouj (talk) 03:45, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

[edit]

you look like an experienced editor, but some of these tools may help you. I see the nominator did not message you that this article was to be deleted.

The article you created: List of fonts in Mac OS X may be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster you respond on this page, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of your article is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted {{Findsources3}}:

Find sources for List of fonts in Mac OS X: google news recent, google news old, google books, google scholar, NYT recent, NYT old, a9, msbooks, msacademic ...You can then cite these results in the Article for deletion discussion.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

1. List the page on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
2. At any time, you can ask any administrator to move your article to a special page. (Called userfication)
3. You can request a mentor to help you: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
4. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. These acronyms don't need to intimidate you. Here is a list of acronyms you can use yourself: Deletion debate acronyms, which will help you argue that the article should be kept.

If your page is deleted, you also have many options available. Good luck! Ikip (talk) 07:07, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Auld Lang Syne

[edit]

I accept that your edit was more considered than others who feel that Burns' authorship of the Auld Lang Syne verses needs challenging, and that calling your changes "BS" was probably a bit out of order. On the other hand, I notice someone else has already reverted YOUR changes. Have a look at what has already been said on this article's discussion page on the topic, and feel free to add your own comment there. That is really the place to bring up changes to an article when those changes are proving very unpopular and are getting reverted (as you can see from the history I am far from the only editor doing this at this particular point). One thing that may be causing confusion - this article is about the full five stanza poem by Burns, not the original folk song - snatches of which have surfaced in the verses of other Scots poets. In fact the exact form of the original song is essentially unknown - except by inference from the points in common of the various "literary" verses that may or may not be derived from it, but seems unlikely to have run for more than a single stanza. Like many "collected" folk songs it may in fact have been a mere fragment. This whole question is an old perennial - every year some politician, journalist, or other media personality comes up with some superficial stuff about Auld Lang Syne - attributing its authorship, and the writing of the melody, to all kinds of people. The matter HAS been carefully researched, and we think we have basically got it pretty right. If not, it is only fair to ask you to present some kind of reasonable argument, preferably backed by reputable sources before your changes are accepted. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 04:53, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Gold price 2001-2006.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gold price 2001-2006.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:47, 13 March 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. IngerAlHaosului (talk) 12:47, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for deletion of Template:Infobox U.S. sovereign state

[edit]

Template:Infobox U.S. sovereign state has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:33, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Susan Williams (politician). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Susan Williams (politician). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The BoE license is NOT a 'free' license like CC-BY-SA is , thusly under Wikipedia policy, it needs a fair use rationale,

which could give exactly the same explanation you left on my talk page. I can't delete (or restore the image) concerned, you will need to find an admin to do that. Also , the images of banknotes may have been tagged for deletion sometime ago given that the license given by the BoE had 'technically' expired. Obviously BoE banknotes ARE fair-use on Wikipedia, so it's advised that you get the BoE to give an 'official' renewal via the permissions queue. The reason BoE banknote images are not 'free' is due to the rather stringent rules the UK has about potential counterfeits. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:34, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
