Dr. Angel Givler is a dedicated educator, advocate for public education, and candidate[1] for the Academy District 20 (ASD20) School Board in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With a Ph.D. in Education and over 14 years of teaching experience across various states and districts, Dr. Givler seeks to improve the quality of education and support for students and staff in ASD20.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Angel Givler was born and raised in the United States, experiencing various education systems throughout her childhood due to frequent moves. She earned her Bachelor's of Education and Master's of Education with a focus on Literacy from Idaho State University. In 2022, she completed her Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Reading, Literacy, Assessment, and Evaluation from Walden University.

Teaching Career

Dr. Givler has been a teacher for 14 years, working in three different states and five school districts. She has taught every grade level from first to sixth and has experience in both reading and math intervention. Her diverse teaching background includes working in schools with high socioeconomic status and Title I schools. Some notable roles and accomplishments in her teaching career include:

  • 5th-grade teacher at Christa McAuliffe Elementary in Colorado Springs School District 11 (August 2018 - Present)

    • Read-a-thon Coordinator and Battle of the Books Coach

  • 2nd-grade teacher at Rocky Mountain Classical Academy (January 2017 – June 2018)
  • 6th-grade teacher at Rimrock Elementary School in Bonneville Joint School District 93 (August 2015 – June 2016)
  • 6th-grade teacher and teacher tutor at Taylor Elementary School in Santa Maria-Bonita School District (January 2012 - June 2015)
  • 2nd and 3rd-grade teacher at Tiebreaker Elementary School and Rimrock Elementary School in Bonneville Joint School District 93 (August 2009 – May 2011)

ASD20 School Board Candidacy

In her campaign for the ASD20 School Board, Dr. Givler emphasizes the importance of addressing the needs of students and staff. Her campaign focuses on the following objectives[2]:

  1. Encouraging the participation of educators and students in the decision-making process at the board level.
  2. Utilizing her expertise in education to foster positive change within the district.
  3. Creating a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff in the district.
  4. Concentrating board meetings on discussing and resolving the most pressing issues in the district.
  5. Incorporating the perspective of a current teacher who has experienced teaching before, during, and after a pandemic.
