Inflation

[edit]

For An adjusted list like we do with "Highest Grossing Films" shouldn't the concerts pre-2000 have their gross adjusted based on current day ticket prices? The average ticket price today according to Pollstar is $123 dollars, whereas the top artists avg around 1000 dollars for ticket prices. These should be taken into account for a inflation adjusted list

While I don't think this is an inherently bad idea, it would be pretty difficult to verify how each concert tour would've sold, as prices can vary greatly depending on the artist and the year of their tour. LaughinElf (talk) 02:17, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, just throwing shit out there to see what people think. Never17 (talk) 05:17, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I came here with the idea of mentioning inflation. Without adjusting for inflation, the data presented are highly distorted at best. Seventy-five million dollars in 1984 are equal to $227 million today, adjusted for inflation. Inflation-adjusted data are often provided for gross movie receipts. Yeah i'm not sure how we'd go about converting it, but it would be a great idea as to what the real highest grossing tours were. The Average ticket prices for the top artists today like Drake, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Adele, Beyonce etc is around 400 dollars. Whereas for the majority of other artists charge around 100-200 dollars, Madonna charged like 200-250 or so for the Celebration Tour reportedly Never17 (talk) 23:54, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inflation templates and all references broken

[edit]

Something has gone wrong with this page, and all instances of the {{Inflation/year}} template and reference templates are showing the error message "The time for running scripts has expired". I've read this can occur when too many citation templates are used in a single article. Any ideas if that is true? Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 21:10, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inflation, continued

[edit]

It seems to me that the "adjusted for inflation" figures are misleading for tours than span multiple years, because the inflation calculation is based only on the final gross total. But you can't make an apples to apples comparison of the revenue from Year 1 of the tour to revenue from Year 2. Really for this to be accurate, you would need to adjust for inflation each annual gross, then add them together. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 17:41, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Springsteen 2023-2024 has grossed 700 million USD in 2024

[edit]

The Springsteen 2023 to 2024 tour has grossed 700 million as of September 2024. Other misstakes on the list. The Born in the USA tour only grossed 80 million USD in 156 shows according to his management, While his Tunnel of Love Express tour grossed 65 million USD in only 67 shows. Bruce was the biggest earner of al musicians between 1987 and 1989 earning 157 million USD. He was 4 times richer in October 1988 than in October 1985. No 2 on the list of biggest earners between 1987 and 1989 was Michael Jackson with 123 million USD. 2A00:801:725:AD2D:7CA5:E8DC:5260:25C0 (talk) 20:09, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Forbes as a source for touring numbers

[edit]

Isn't Billboard and Pollstar the only reputable sources when it comes to modern tours? GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 17:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Forbes estimation is way more conservative than Pollstar. Forbes's average gross for The Eras Tour is $15 million, while Pollstar's average is $17 million. I do agree that Billboard and Pollstar is the first choice for touring data, but Forbes is also a reliable source per WP:RSP. Bluesatellite (talk) 03:00, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
