Amilyn is the secondary antagonist of the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as the comic book miniseries Origin both of which are predecessors to the 1997 TV series of the same name.

He is an eccentric and kooky vampire as well as the chief lieutenant of Lothos and one of the first major enemies encountered by Buffy Summers.

He was portrayed by the late Paul Reubens, who also played Lock in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Buck LaFarge in Duston Checks In, Reuben in Chowder, Ivor in Minecraft: Story Mode, Professor Parenthesis in Phineas & Ferb and Willard Wyler in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Biography[]

Amilyn is reportedly over 1200 years old and has been Lothos's closest ally for centuries, having joined him in nearly every move, watching him killing several vampire slayers in the past, and eventually the finding himself moving with him to Los Angeles where Lothos became a powerful and respected vampire lord with Amilyn acting as his acolyte. During the 1990s the two were brought into conflict with a new slayer Buffy Summers and her watcher Merrick Jamison-Smythe, Amilyn personally encountered first after trying to kidnap and turn her classmates Benny and Pike, due to Buffy's inference however Pike escapes but Benny is indeed turned. He kidnaps more of Buffy's classmates following this and gets into an altercation with Pike which ends up leaving him with his left arm torn off, although Amilyn seemed more bothered about his jacket being torn.

He encounters Buffy and Pike a few more times during the film, most notably in the climax when after a long battle with Buffy she manages to stake him after Lothos distracts him by playing the violin with a sadistic smirk on his face. Even though most vampires would die instantly from being staked Amilyn instead took the time to mock Buffy and moan in pain for as long as possible, still on the floor grunting even with Buffy and Lothos left.

In the post credits scene Amilyn is still slowly dying and dramatically groaning on the ground while doing so, even though by this point Buffy and Lothos are long gone so there's no one to watch him.

Personality[]

Amilyn was a wild and sadistic vampire with a fairly strange and eccentric persona, being quite goofy for a vampire, however he was still quite intelligent and dangerous just immature. He also was quite the attention seeker, even drawing out his own death just for laughs.

Appearance[]

Amilyn had the appearance of a man in his thirties with pale skin, brown eyes, blonde hair and a black goatee, he wore a leather trenchcoat with matching trousers, a red satin shirt, black boots and black nail polish. After his second encounter with Pike his arm was torn off hence giving him the nickname Lefty.

Trivia[]

  • Amilyn was originally written as a female vampire, the reason why this was changed is unknown.
