Ultraman Regulos is a spinoff series featuring the origins and backstory of the eponymous Ultraman, Ultraman Regulos, prior to his appearance in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad.[4][5] After releasing in China from May 20, 2023,[1] the series released online internationally on TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION, Ultraman Connection and YouTube starting May 23, 2023.[2][3] An English dub was also released simultaneously.
Production[]
Ultraman Regulos is considered a spinoff of the Ultra Galaxy Fight series and has an emphasis on action and martial arts.[6] Director Koichi Sakamoto was inspired by kung fu movies and shonen manga, and as a former stunt actor himself, worked diligently with its stunt team to ensure its kung fu appeared authentic.[6] He also compared the series' enjoyment to stage shows held at EXPO events.[6]
Although the spinoff was first announced on July 1, 2022,[7][8] Ultraman Regulos's voice actor, Shugo Nakamura, noted that he recorded his voice lines for it before Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad in order to shape his performance for the character,[9] suggesting the series was in production for over a year prior. Sakamoto also mentioned that a promo for Regulos was shot at the same time as a promo for Ultraman Blazar.[6]
A teaser trailer was released on August 22 unveiling the spinoff's synopsis and the Cosmo Beast Fighters,[4][5] some of whom first appeared in The Destined Crossroad in flashbacks or as spirits. Their voice actors were later announced on September 30,[10][11] followed by the voice actors for the villains, the Alien Magma, on November 1.[12][13]
A related special called Ultraman Regulos: First Mission was announced on December 15.[14][15] It was shown at Ultra Heroes EXPO 2023 New Year Festival on December 27 then released after Ultraman Regulos.
On April 27, 2023, details of the series' distribution were revealed, along with the inclusion of Ultraman Leo and Dias.[1][2][3] In Japan and China, the series released in two parts, while it released on YouTube internationally in six parts.
Synopsis[]
One day, a young man named Ultraman Regulos washed up on the shore of D60, having lost all memories except for his name. Recognizing his talent, Master Alude took Regulos under his wing and began to teach him the legendary Cosmo Beast Style, said to be the strongest martial art in the universe… This is the story of his fierce battles.

Voice Drama[]
A special voice drama was distributed exclusively through the TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION platform, featuring interactions between Regulos and the other Cosmo Beast Fighters. It ran for three episodes and was only available to those who had viewed Ultraman Regulos and Ultraman Regulos: First Mission within a stipulated time period.[16]

The miniseries was released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan on November 22, 2023.[18][19] Both contain Ultraman Regulos: First Mission, while the Blu-ray exclusively includes trailers, the special voice drama, a full recording of Ultra Galaxy Fight Special Night (an event held on December 27 hosted by Wataru Komada, Shugo Nakamura, Takuya Negishi and Koichi Sakamoto), and an audio commentary by Nakamura, Sakamoto and Tomokazu Seki.[20] Those who purchased either the DVD or Blu-ray at participating stores or at TSUBURAYA CONVENTION 2023 received a unique sleeve to contain Ultraman Regulos and the three entries of Ultra Galaxy Fight.[20]
