Last Nubian — one of South London’s most electrifying producer/DJ talents — partners with Geneva’s Sweet Fruity Brunch to debut on Errol and Alex Rita’s Touching Bass. Six tracks oozing the grit and groove of inner city LDN with deep house, broken beat and dub at its core.
From the wiggling, jazz-tinged house of the title track and anthemic singalong bruk of “in da morning” (both featuring the honeyed vocals of Achanté) to “unformidable/call it out”’s moody steadiness and the dub that bookends the EP — this is music with soul firmly in its veins.
Fresh from stellar releases on kinship labels, Tiff’s Joints and Ben Hauke’s Woop Records, the Balamii Radio resident has been steadily making moves for the past few years as part of an exciting scene of local producers and DJs. He’s now ready to take things to a new level, developing a live/DJ-hybrid performance (which premiered spectacularly to a hot-footed audience at Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival).
‘Babylon Shuffle’ marks the first of Touching Bass’ 12” riddim packages, bottling the eclectic sounds of their much-loved South London-based dance on wax; custom built for dancefloor damage and beautifully presented in the soon-to-be customary, crimson red house sleeve.
Previous support from Moxie, Shy One, Secretsundaze, Aqwea, Pete Tong, Jamz Supernova, Alexander Nut and more.

“The music was the thing that kept people together, because when the people left Africa to go to Jamaica and the Caribbean all they could bring was their songs” - Jah Shaka (RIP).
SPECIAL THANKS
We wanted to give a special thanks to the following people for helping to shape this record into what you hear now:
“Many moons ago, house rookie Sweet Fruity Brunch cooked up a bossa inspired tune called “og outro”. A pleasant track, but doomed to fail in its creator's mind, if not for a divine intervention. Divine it was, when musical architect Last Nubian was given this tune as a rock for him to sculpt. His signature touch shows both an abrasive and fine work; hammered into the chopped tune was the heaviest kick that house music would allow, while a fine texture work was chiselled into this piece “mango in da parrish”. A track that would be a stepping-stone for the Babylon Shuffle EP.
Upon hearing the result, SFB knew Last Nubian had to be fed again, as this duo’s gold was too precious. His attention to arrangement and details was complementary to SFB’s musical style and attitude, while SFB’s drunken style takes were in direct contrast to LN’s programmed approach.
Last Nubian led the charge by carefully crafting around his inspirations. His wish was for this EP to be an ode to dub, which has shaped his music through the years. With that in mind the EP is conceptualised with short interludes to tie all the tracks together, as well as an introduction perfectly blending both their sound and influences. Many lunar cycles later, and with help of the many talents involved the symbiosis of these two nerds resulted in what might be one of their best work to date.” — Last Nubian & Sweet Fruity Brunch
