Bookcases are crafting stations used for the creating of three Hardmode Magic Weapons: Crystal Storm, Cursed Flames and Golden Shower. Bookcases can also be used as decorative Furniture, and fulfill a House's Flat Surface Item requirement. A Bottle (or similar) can be placed on one and used as a Placed Bottle for crafting Potions.

There are currently 35 craftable Bookcases, and 6 versions looted from the environment: 1 from the Underworld, 4 from the Dungeon, and 1 from the Pirate Invasion. Some bookcases can also be found in Underground Cabins; their style follows the theme of the cabin where they are found.

Trivia[]

• The Bookcase actually shows 13 books stored, similar to how a placed book shows 2-3 books.
• Although it is not required to make it, the Water Bolt's unique sprite is visible in most bookcases (a blue book with white/brown band).
  • The Boreal Wood Bookcase appears to have two water bolts.
• The Boreal Wood Bookcase, the Slime Bookcase and the Crystal Bookcase are the only three to have horizontally placed books, being the only display of books that way in the game.
• The Sand Stone Bookcase appears to have scrolls rather than books, probably because it is ancient themed.
• Despite Cactus and Living Wood Bookcases having no visible top surfaces, objects can still be placed on top of them, in some cases appearing to float in midair.
• The Shadewood, Martian, Slime, and Dynasty are the only bookcases to show more than two rows of books.
• On the Nintendo 3DS version, the Bookcase Crafting Station icon appears to be just a white square, while everything else appears normal. This is most likely a bug, or was forgotten during development.
