Publisher's summary[]

Grand Admiral Thrawn faces the ultimate test of his loyalty to the Empire in this epic Star Wars novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.

"If I were to serve the Empire, you would command my allegiance."

Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor Palpatine at their first meeting. Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire's most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy. But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive.

Now, as Thrawn's TIE defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic's secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency. Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets.

As Thrawn works to secure his place in the Imperial hierarchy, his former protégé Eli Vanto returns with a dire warning about Thrawn's homeworld. Thrawn's mastery of strategy must guide him through an impossible choice: duty to the Chiss Ascendancy, or fealty to the Empire he has sworn to serve. Even if the right choice means committing treason.[1]

  5. Thrawn: Treason references the Attack on Lothal in "Rebel Assault" but takes place prior to Thrawn's disappearance in "Family Reunion – and Farewell," meaning that Thrawn: Treason takes place between these two episodes. "Family Reunion – and Farewell" features the Liberation of Lothal, which happened in the same year as Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope according to The Star Wars Book. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope to 0 BBY, meaning that "Family Reunion – and Farewell" takes place in 0 BBY and Thrawn: Treason takes place during or before that year. The epilogue of "Family Reunion – and Farewell" takes place after the end of the Galactic Civil War, which ended in 5 ABY according to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, meaning that the earliest it can take place is 5 ABY. Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy places "A World Between Worlds" 5 years earlier, meaning that the earliest it can take place is 0 BBY, but since it can't take place after "Family Reunion – and Farewell", "A World Between Worlds" must take place exactly in that year. As "Rebel Assault" takes place some time before "A World Between Worlds", it must take place in around 0 BBY as well. Therefore, if Thrawn: Treason takes place in between "Rebel Assault" and "Family Reunion – and Farewell", it must take place during or around 0 BBY.
