The Foerost Shipyards were vast and ancient shipyards that orbited the planet Foerost. They were originally used by the Galactic Republic, but were often targeted or taken over by the Republic's enemies.
Description[]
The Foerost Shipyards were located in high orbit above the uninhabited planet Foerost. Materials were collected from the planet below and shipped into orbit where they were assembled into starships. The shipyards of Foerost were among the most successful large-scale construction facilities in the galaxy.[2]
History[]
The Foerost Shipyards were among the oldest shipyards of the galaxy.[2] Foerost and its shipyards served as headquarters for the Republic Navy during the Tionese War, circa 24,000 BBY.[6]
The Foerost Shipyards were engulfed by Naga Sadow's fleet during the Great Hyperspace War[7]. During the Old Sith Wars, Zentine Dynamics produced Ministry-class orbital shuttles in the Foerost Shipyards.[8] In 3996 BBY, during the Great Sith War, the Sith Lord Ulic Qel-Droma and Mandalore the Indomitable led Krath and Mandalorian forces in a raid on the shipyards. They ravaged the shipyards and stole 300 of the newest Republic warships with which to attack the Republic capital Coruscant.[2] The Foerost Shipyards were later repaired and returned into Republic control. Decades later, in 3959 BBY, another Sith Lord, Darth Revan, attacked the shipyards and seized the bulk of the Republic fleet for his own armada, initiating the Jedi Civil War.[5]
Millennia later, after the Republic Armed Forces were disbanded, the shipyards were sold by the Republic to the Techno Union. Corporate signatories of the Techno Union then used the facility for construction and testing of new materials and propulsion systems.[3] During the Separatist Crisis, the Techno Union secretly joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems with the objective to overthrow the Republic.[4] In the meantime, the Techno Union tightened the security of the shipyards with thousands of battle droids.[3] When the Clone Wars began, the Techno Union provided the Foerost Shipyards to the Separatist war effort. In response, the Republic blockaded Foerost, expecting the shipyards to decline without access to Separatist supply line. Contrariwise, Separatist engineers were able to develop and secretly build a fleet of Bulwark-class battleships. After nearly two years of blockade, the Bulwark Fleet broke the siege of Foerost and attacked Sector Zero.[4] After the defeat of the Bulwark Fleet at the Battle of Anaxes, the Republic eventually recaptured Foerost.[9]
The Foerost Shipyards still operated during the Imperial Period.[6]
