— Squeaky Boots, "Squeaky Boots"
|
The squeaky boots are a pair of tall black rubber fishing boots that appear in the episode of the same name, "Necro-Nom-Nom-Nom-I-Con," the video games SuperSponge and Revenge of the Flying Dutchman (GBA version), and the online game Squeaky Boot Blurbs.
Description[]
As stated by SpongeBob, they appear as just a pair of any old ordinary black boots, but they are longer and taller. The boots are made of smooth, shiny black rubber and have dark grey soles with short heels. They tend to make a squeaking noise when they are being worn by someone, whether that person is walking or moving them around.
The boots are shown to be very flexible, as they have the ability to squash, stretch, extend, twist, inflate and deflate. The squeaking can also sound like talking when the wearer moves them around.
Role in series[]
"Squeaky Boots"[]
Mr. Krabs buys them for $2 for Pearl's birthday. However, she greatly dislikes them, as she was hoping for Flipper Slippers instead, so Mr. Krabs tricks SpongeBob into taking them by encouraging him that they are only to be worn by the greatest fry cook in the whole world. Mr. Krabs, of course, is lying because he only spent two dollars on them, but SpongeBob takes the boots anyway in exchange for his paycheck. When SpongeBob begins wearing them, he thinks they are pretty cool and have made him an 'official fry cook.' He becomes so fascinated by them that he starts wearing them all the time at work, at home and even in bed, and they squeak whenever he walks or does tricks with them, which annoys Squidward, leading him to take a week-long vacation. However, SpongeBob continues to wear the boots every day and shows Mr. Krabs various tricks he can do with them that 'the world's greatest fry cook' couldn't.
No longer tolerating the incessant squeaking the boots make, Mr. Krabs later steals them from him while he's sleeping and hides them under the floor of the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs later starts hallucinating and hears everything and everyone making the squeaking noise, and decides he has had enough, leading to him eating the boots after dipping them in a fryer. Relieved, Mr. Krabs decides to go on a vacation with Pearl and get her the flipper slippers she initially wanted, but he then starts hiccuping the sound of the boots.
"Necro-Nom-Nom-Nom-I-Con"[]
The waitress kicks Mr. Krabs away from the Coffee Bowl café with one of the boots on.
Squeaky Boot Blurbs[]
SpongeBob wears the boots once again in this online game. In the game, SpongeBob stands in the middle and the player must click on a word to hear the squeaky boots pronounce it. Every time a word is chosen, SpongeBob will move his boots around slightly to have them say it. The player can use the record button to record the words until they stop the recording or run out of the room. Once the player has recorded their words, they can choose to erase the recording or email it to a friend.
SuperSponge[]
In the precipice canyon, the boots are offered by Mr. Krabs and are used as a way to cross dangerous surfaces, such as spikes.
Trivia[]
- They appear to be sentient in Mr. Krabs' dream, as well as being able to speak when SpongeBob and the boots take Incidental 4's order, as well as being the main focus in Squeaky Boot Blurbs.
- This also means that the boots were killed by Mr. Krabs when he ate them (even if the squeaks can still be heard when he hiccups).
- The boots are also shown to have the ability to float, as SpongeBob demonstrates this both by holding his breath, thus making them inflate like balloons, and when he levitates horizontally with his legs stretched far apart.
- Out of all the characters throughout the episode (excluding the customers), SpongeBob is the only one who doesn't find the boots' constant squeaking annoying.
- Somehow, the boots are able to make SpongeBob look taller (twice his own size in fact). However, his legs are barely as long as the boots themselves. This either means that SpongeBob is floating while his feet are in the boots or his legs have stretched long enough to stand on the ground.
- While the boots are usually tall and black, they appear as short brown hiking boots in the game SuperSponge.
- A similar boot appears in the episode "Missing Identity," where Mr. Krabs threatens SpongeBob and Squidward with it if they fail their employee inspection, but it has a pointed toe instead of a round one.
