Shiver Hohojiro (フウカ, Fuuka^?, lit. Great White Shark), also known as The Cold-Blooded Bandit (サメ使い, Sametsukai^?, lit. Shark trainer) is a major antagonist turned supporting character in Splatoon 3. She is an Octoling who resides in Splatsville. Along with co-stars Frye and Big Man, she is a member of the band Deep Cut, who host both Anarchy Splatcast, the news show of Splatsville, and Splatfests.

She, along with Frye and Big Man are Anti-Villains in Return of the Mammalians. Her signature color is a deep indigo, and she is also a member of a clan of shark users. She rides a megalodon named Master Mega when the player fights her in the single-player mode.

She is voiced by Anna Sato.^[2]

Appearance[]

Shiver is an Octoling with pale skin and a wide, oval-shaped face, with slender eyes and sharp blue triangle eyebrows. Her irises are red, with light red pupils in the shape of an infinity symbol, similar to Marina's pupils, (and matching octopuses in real life). Her Octoling eye mask is thin and sharp, almost appearing to be cat-eyeliner makeup, with red eye shadow blended underneath.

Her tentacles are shoulder length, with the left side styled over her face, hiding her left eye from view. Her tentacles have a slight gradient from a light blue to navy blue and are curled upwards slightly at the ends. In addition to the eye makeup, Shiver also appears to be wearing a light red lip gloss.

In her school days, her hair had her signature tentacle covering her right eye, albeit shorter, and the other tentacle at the back of her head was instead tied up in in a ponytail with what seems to be her hachimaki rope. She wore a black long-sleeved cropped sailor fuku with a deep purple ribbon on the collar, a long pleated black skirt that went down to her ankles, and were white loafers with a strap, resembling the Japanese gang-related fashion phenomenon known as sukeban.

Personality[]

Shiver is described as 'cold-blooded' (her title even being "The Cold-Blooded Bandit") and acts cold and nonchalant with a ruthless streak while on the Anarchy Splatcast. She's a perfectionist, sending Big Man back to the drawing board multiple times while he wrote Anarchy Rainbow, and she enjoys teasing her fellow newscasters, but despite this, she clearly cares about them.

Shiver's story mode appearances contrast with how she presents herself on the Anarchy Splatcast, as she sheds her calm and collected exterior while fighting Agent 3, showing that she has a more competitive, impatient, and crude side; trash-talking the player, sticking out her tongue, growing increasingly frustrated when she doesn’t win, and fumbling with her smoke bomb at the end of her boss encounter. Despite this, if the player beats her, she acknowledges them as her equal. She also has the tendency to occasionally express things in onomatopoeias, such as "FLOOMP" and "KA-GLOMP."

Despite her persona, Shiver can be surprisingly understanding, as she was willing to put aside her differences and work with the New Squidbeak Splatoon, even being the one to suggest that Marie become their boss and happily referring to her as such.

The Pursuit of the Precious

Shiver appears in Splatoon 3 as a member of the Deep Cut trio. She, Frye, and Big Man host the local news.

Shiver, along with the other members of her band appear in the single-player mode, where they at first attempt to fight Callie, Marie, and Agent 3 for treasure, and Shiver ends up being the second, third or fourth boss in the campaign. After all the boss fights against Deep Cut are won, Callie simply hands the treasure to the group, and Shiver, along with the others, regrets fighting them at all. Under Big Man's suggestion, Marie end up being the managers of the group and they put out a song with Deep Cut.
