Dark Mobius - Jani-ca's Ascent is a series of five short stories set in the pre-Super Genesis Wave Archie Sonic the Hedgehog canon. They were published on the now-defunct Sonic Universe blog once per day from 9 May 2011 to 13 May 2011, and were written by Ian Flynn. The stories serve as prequels to the Sonic Universe "Silver Saga" arc which ran from Sonic Universe #25 to #28, and companions to the other Dark Mobius blog stories.

Part one[]

Uncle Vector came by today! He brought me a toy and a book and told me stories about his adventures!

I like when Uncle Vector comes by. I like to hear about things outside the base. Mommy promises one day I'll get to go outside.

I hate the Dark Legion. It's because they are mean to people I hafta stay inside all the time. Uncle Vector and mommy and the others are trying to make the bad people go away so I can go outside and play!

I hope they win soon.

Also, I have a secret. I'm gonna practice it and when Uncle Vector comes back I'll show it off to him and mommy and they'll be so surprised!

I'll go ahead and tell you the secret diary - I can move things by looking at them!^[1]

Part two[]

I had a bad day, diary. A really, really bad day.

First, Remington came to the base and got into a fight with mommy. They shouted about a lot of stuff. I don't think the fight with the Dark Legion is going very well.

Then I heard Remington say Uncle Vector was lost.

How can he be lost?

He lived on Angel Island his whole life and was so smart!

I heard Remington say that uncle is with somebody called "Prelate" so hopefully whoever that is will show Uncle Vector the way back.

Anyway, mommy seemed so upset I thought I'd show her the surprise.

I got a few things in the room to move around just by thinking about them.

That didn't make mommy happy.

It made her and Remington fight and shout a lot more.

So I ran to my room and now here I am.

Stupid Dark Legion. Stupid war. I hate it.^[1]

Part three[]

Okay - so - today was...different.

I was already kinda antsy when mom didn't show up for practice like usual.

If I'm late by even a second she gets really snippy with me, but today I waited for her for like ten minutes. I was ready to give her a piece of my mind by the time she showed up.

Except she showed up with a couple of guys I've never seen before - more rebels, I guess - and they had this box.

And in this box was this robot echidna head.

That's gross enough, right? It gets better.

It talked to me.

Knew my name, knew mom, and knew all about my powers. WHAT?!

So...yeah. Apparently I'm challenging the "Chaos Force" or something and Mr. Robot Head (I forget his name) is going to teach me how to use it more to kick some DL-butt.

Weird.^[1]

Part four[]

I'm am ^[sic] so mad right now I can hardly think. I can hardly write. This is my third time writing because I kept carving through the paper I was writing so hard which only makes me angrier and...

Okay, so, first I decided to take the initiative and use all that training Dimitri gave me.

I spent a couple weeks building up some juice, then punched a hole in space-time and went to rescue my dad.

Yeah it was risky and dangerous and blah blah blah.

This war is isn't going well, so I decided to do something about it.

Turns out I did it wrong and wound up in a whole other zone and accomplished nothing.

When I got back, mom decides NOW is the best time to drop the bomb on me - Enerjak is my dad.

Remington never killed him.

I'm the daughter of the biggest psychopath on the planet.

Oh, but it's okay now because I'm old enough to fight.

I don't care if she was trying to protect me. I could've used all that power for something else.

I really hate her right now.^[1]

Part five[]

Mom's gone.

Scarlette brought me the news this morning. Something about a raid going bad, I don't know. I zoned out after a bit.

I think I'm numb. I cried at some point, but I don't remember when. All I know is the day has passed and I've just been in this room staring at the walls.

So...that's that, I guess. I'm officially the head of things now.

Mom and Elias wanted me to follow-up on some magic sword, so I guess I'll focus on that first. Probably a wild goose chase, but I need to focus on something.

There's one thing I've been meaning to do, but I couldn't bring myself to do it in front of mom.

With her gone, I'm renouncing my name.

I'm cutting all ties to that gold-plated monster.

I haven't picked out a new name yet, but something will come to me.^[2][1]
