Raccoons appear in The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims 3: Pets, and The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs.
The Sims: Unleashed[]
The Sims: Unleashed included an NPC raccoon known as El Bandito. This raccoon will appear randomly at night and will raid the garbage can, creating a mess and waking up any Sims and pets who are sleeping. He will often wander around the lot before deciding to head for the garbage can.
Adult Sims can call the animal control service, which will send someone to remove El Bandito for a §20 fee. A dog may autonomously choose to fight El Bandito. If the dog wins, the raccoon will leave. Adults and children can try to shoo him away, though they won't do so autonomously and he won't always leave if they do. When a child tries to shoo El Bandito, a "Missing Animation" thought bubble will appear. This is likely an oversight made by Maxis, where they forgot to include the "shoo" animation for the interaction. The raccoon will still leave the lot sometimes, however.
When El Bandito enters a lot, burglar music will start playing. Players can tell whether the music was triggered by the burglar or by El Bandito by checking to see if buy mode and build mode are disabled. They are not disabled when El Bandito is on a lot, while they are disabled when the burglar is on a lot. However, there is a glitch that El Bandito will sometimes leave a lot almost as soon as he has entered it, usually before the player notices he is there. Since this still triggers the burglar music, it led to a belief that the music would play for no apparent reason.
While "el" is a form of "the" in Spanish, "bandito" is Italian for "bandit". Correctly it would either be "el bandido" in Spanish or "il bandito" in Italian.
The Sims 3: Pets[]
Raccoons return in The Sims 3: Pets, where they wander in the player's home world following the installation of the expansion pack. Internally, male raccoons are always named Meeko, while female raccoons are always Meeka. However, on mouseover, they simply say "Raccoon". They can often be seen tipping over garbage cans on residential lots. Raccoons don't have any traits.
Sims can either "watch" or "shoo" the raccoons, although some may be able to pet them. They may have a wish to watch or pet a raccoon. Watching raccoons raises a Sim's hidden wildlife skill. When raccoons meet Sims with a high wildlife skill they will sometimes autonomously ask the Sim to play "chase", the same game cats can request of Sims. This cannot be requested by the active Sim; only the raccoon can initiate it, making it a rare interaction.
The raccoon can be edited with cheats, but this is not recommended. When editing raccoons in Create a Sim, they will appear as a tall, deformed figure. The players can only change the name, gender, and traits, while the buttons for the other features like breeds are greyed out. Changing the gender of the raccoon may cause the game to freeze. Clicking the randomize button will turn the raccoons skin entirely black. In live mode, if a raccoon will be killed and then their tombstone will be kept, the game will usually crash every time their ghost appears, since raccoons aren't supposed to die.
The name Meeko is a reference to the 1995 Walt Disney animated film Pocahontas, as the titular character has a pet raccoon who is also named Meeko.
The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs[]
Raccoons are present in The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs as a cat breed with a unique raccoon voice. They can be adopted by Sims and can mate with cats. The default traits for raccoons are mischievous and territorial. Aside from their appearance and voices, however, they act and behave like normal cats.
Like other cat breeds, raccoons and raccoon crossbreeds occasionally appear as randomly generated strays in Brindleton Bay, as well as pets in randomly generated households.
