IRC problems

[change source]

I'm having some trouble with IRC, and please bear with me because it's all pretty new to me.

I tried registering with IRC a few years ago, and registered with a password. I didn't end up doing much with it at the time. I do not remember what that password was, but my computer remembered it and logged me in with it. I was informed that I should get a cloak when I got on last night. However, I need to identify in order to receive a cloak, and in order to do that, I need to know my password. I don't know what it is. Would it be best for me just to re-sign up with a new name similar to "Kansan"? Kansan (talk) 01:32, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I were you, I would register a name similar to Kansan (perhaps use Kansan2) and then go to #freenode and ask them to ungroup (I forget what the word is that they use, but they'll know what you are talking about) Kansan. Once they've detached it from your other account simply type /nick Kansan followed by /ns group <your password here> to group Kansan to your account. Hope this makes sense, if not, let me know. Cheers, Lauryn (utc) 01:36, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that made sense. They just send me a password reset for my original account. I haven't received it yet, and if I don't end up receiving it, I'll just continue with Kansan2. Thanks for your help. Kansan (talk) 01:56, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's probably easiest, I wasn't aware you had set up an email address with your old account, though I should have asked. At any rate, you're welcome. Cheers, Lauryn (utc) 01:58, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the meantime, you still can use your old nickname (Kansan), there's no rule that prevents you to do it ;-) --Diego (talk) 13:38, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was suddenly banned for no reason in IRC... I think it is because of a troll/vandal there. :0 ?? Belinda 13:08, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • In the ban list in #wikipedia-simple there are no bans matching you. Bans in other channels are not accounted and related to Simple's IRC channel. Nifky^ 13:34, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The only guy banned from the channel currently is Pickbothmanlol, you are not in the banlist. :-O --Diego (talk) 13:36, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay, I think it just happened because of a quick bot accident, as Ian explained so nicely and kindlyhere. Thanks! Belinda 03:02, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't connect

[change source]

I'm really sorry for bothering you again, but maybe there's something wrong with my computer. I tried to connect to IRC just a few seconds ago and it repeatedly says, "couldn't connect to remote server." When I write something, it says "[12:05] Can't use this command in this window" and does not work. Can anybody solve this problem or tell me what is wrong? Belle tête-à-tête 03:04, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How are you trying to connect? In addition, is there any other error message (probably above "couldn't connect to remote server")? Chenzw  Talk  03:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I go into this website, click the space and type in my name, password, and the channel #wikipedia-simple as I always do. However today it doesn't seem to work. It connected fairly well yesterday, and all the other days. I cannot find a reason why. And the other addition: no, there is no other error message. Belle tête-à-tête 03:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, wait. I tried it again on my computer (because it worked on my dad's) and it says,
  • [13:29] -syn- Web gateway connections are currently being throttled due to abuse. Sorry for any inconvenience!
  • [13:29] == (Throttled)
  • [13:29] == ERROR: Closing Link: gateway/web/freenode/session (Disconnected by services)
  • [13:29] == Disconnected from server: Connection to IRC server lost.

Though my brain is too stupid to know what "throttled" means ;p, I think it's supposed to mean that there is a slight something wrong with the channel. I guess it will work later. Thanks for your help any way Chenzw. :) Warmly, Belle tête-à-tête 04:30, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
