Vandalism in progress
[change source]Seems like no one is noticing that there is a small vandal attack right now (WP:VIP). Sk4mp (talk) 16:23, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Sk4mp: I'm sorry for the late reply, I was away from the keyboard. Generally speaking, a report to WP:VIP is sufficient. An alternate route would be to join #wikipedia-simple connect and request
!admin@simplewiki
for a quick response from the sysops that monitor the channel. Operator873talkconnect 21:33, 11 February 2020 (UTC)- I joined the channel, thanks . I just saw that no one was reacting to the request on VIP, so I decided to message an active admin. Sk4mp (talk) 21:37, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Inindo: Way of the Ninja
[change source]I created the article Inindo: Way of the Ninja. Can you see if the article is in simple english mode? I thank you. Best regards. 23:27, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
- @A.WagnerC: It's very close, but still needs some work. Simple English means articles should only have words that are easy for everyone, including people learning how to read and/or speak English, to understand. We try to keep only the words in this list in articles. However, if there is a word that isn't on that list that you need to use, you can after link to an article about that word. If there's no article, check Simple Wiktionary for a definition that you can use to link to. Again, read Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages and you'll be good. [change source]Can I remove stale reports from VIP? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:22, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
Page created was deleted
[change source]Hi! Thank you for reminding me of being vigilant on creating new pages. I understand the reason why my newly created pages were deleted. However, I just want to ask if articles that I personally created in the Wikipedia, cannot be copied here as is, some of it are already simple enough, and I personally created them. Thanks!
Regards, Brazal.dang (talk) 13:55, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Brazal.dang: You'll need to become familiar with how to write simple English articles since we use a very limited word list. To answer your question directly, no. No article or portion of an article should be copied from the English Wikipedia, regardless of who wrote it. Operator873talkconnect 13:59, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! Brazal.dang (talk) 14:01, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Brazal.dang and Operator873: I have to disagree with the statement that "No article or portion of an article should be copied from the English Wikipedia, regardless of who wrote it." Copying from English Wikipedia ("enwiki") is one of the main ways we get new articles. They do have to be attributed. They also have to be in simple language, which can be from simplifying the language used on enwiki or by the language being simple enough on enwiki in the first place. In fact, Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia is our guideline on how to do such copying. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:16, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Auntof6 for clarifying that. My meaning was that leads shouldn't be copy/pasted into a simple article, published and moved on from with no simplification. I wholly agree with your statement and appreciate your stepping in here. Operator873talkconnect 23:19, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Queens
[change source]In my edit you said it was incorrect info. But in 2008 they renamed it. Except on the southbound Exit 29W from the Cross Island Parkway, it says the RFK Bridge. Also it does not go directly to the Bronx, as Wards Island is part of Manhattan, hence the TRIborough. And Exit 46 off Interstate 278 is in Manhattan. Just saying. 2600:387:5:807:0:0:0:AE (talk) 00:48, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- @2600:387:5:807:0:0:0:AE: Cool. What is your source? Information, especially disputed information, shouldn't be added without supporting information. Operator873talkconnect 01:23, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Operator873: have you ever been to NYC? If you go to English Wikipedia and the Interstate 278 article, where the RFK is, and scroll left, it says “Manhattan”. Queens does not connect to the Bronx. The other sign that says Triboro Bridge is the Exit 12 sign off Interstate 295 directly on I-278. It is confusing. 2600:387:5:80D:0:0:0:50 (talk) 20:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- @2600:387:5:80D:0:0:0:50: How unusual. I suppose that's why we should build the encyclopedia based on independent, verifiable sources instead of what people believe and/or say based on their own original research or experiences. Also, English Wikipedia is not a source. I suggest you request the community's input on the talk page of the article. Operator873talkconnect 21:57, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Operator873: According to https://www.quora.com/How-many-bridges-connect-the-5-boroughs-in-NYC (which btw I don’t know how to make it a clickable link, it says the 3 bridges connecting Queens and the Bronx are the Throgs Neck Bridge, Whitestone Bridge and RIKERS ISLAND Bridge. The RFK connects Manhattan, Queens AND The Bronx. So this means that I am right, if you don’t believe me, look at the website and scroll down. It’s that simple. 2600:387:5:80D:0:0:0:50 (talk) 23:00, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

- A.WagnerC your changes look great. Be sure to check through BE 1500 if you want to make sure the words you are using are ok to use. Operator873talkconnect 15:31, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Odd redirects
[change source]Hi Operator873, last week an IP started creating some inappropriate redirects like National Symbol of Pakistan, National Tower of Pakistan, National game of Pakistan that you deleted. Today, an IP user 188.30.144.64 (talk · contribs) seems to be creating a bunch of similar redirects like National vegetable of Bangladesh and Provincial crop of East Bengal. I was wondering if you could also address these new ones too? Thank you! – Aranya (talk) 15:27, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- Aranya I'd be happy to. This is an LTA who's come back after a bit of inactivity. Thank you for letting me know! Operator873talkconnect 17:46, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Revdel
[change source]Hey Operator, Thanks for your help last night and today,
Not sure if you're aware but the diffs up to and including this one would also need revdelling (In Esteban16's diff the IP added the R word to your comment, and then in GoodUsers edit the R word as well as the other trolls comments are visible),
Thanks again, –Davey2010Talk 18:50, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Operator873, we have another possible block evasion
[change source]I am assuming we have another block evasion problem here. The IP asked about a page IPs kept on creating, which was an article about me, which links to the log. So, I suspecting another block evasion here. Thanks. Arthurfan828 - CHAT 19:10, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Arthurfan828: Done but this should have been reported to WP:VIP and not my talk page since I'm not always around. Operator873talkconnect 19:27, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Glitch
[change source]Hi. Since you are a person in IT, I thought I would ask you. So I never clicked the "keep me logged" in button, I logged in to Wikipedia 48 hours ago, and left for 12 hours, it then made me relogin, then when I clicked log in, it logged me back in without me having to put in the password... Will clearing my cookies fix this? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 15:10, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Protect my userpage and my user talk page
[change source]Hello, Operator873, I would like you to semi-protect my userpage and my user talk page please? I would like it to expire in 2 months because most of the edits were made by anonymous users who vandalized my talk page and accusing me of sockpuppetry. It is also taking up my notifications. Thanks. Arthurfan828 - CHAT 15:29, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Arthurfan828: Both protected for 3 months since 2 months isn't a pre-configured option and I'm lazy today. Operator873talkconnect 15:31, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Arthurfan828 - CHAT 15:36, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
hidden cats
[change source]how can I view all hidden categories in a page? I forgot how to do it --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:45, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) An easy way of checking this is opening the source editor of the page and uncollapsing the "This page is a member of x hidden categories:" dropdown list. Hiàn (talk) 05:30, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Thegooduser: If you always want to see them all the time, there's an option in your settings. It's called "Show hidden categories", and it's on the Appearance tab under Advanced options. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:36, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Doubt
[change source]Hi greetings, I'd like to ask you a doubt about AWB access in simple wiki. It is only on a curiosity. Users added to the AWB checkpage are removed a few days later. Is this a policy in wiki or users' request for removal or users' inactivity. I'm asking this only on a curiosity. Hope you'll help. Thank you.--Path slopu (Talk) 04:44, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) They are removed after the project they needed access for is done. -DJSasso (talk) 14:22, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

neutral
[change source]I am having a really hard time on choosing which side to vote on the request for checkusership, is there a neutral section, or is it best for me not to vote? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:21, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- It's purely up to you. If you want to participate as with {{Neutralvote}} vote or even {{Abstain}}, then you're welcome to. However, not voting is also just as valid. There is no compulsory action here. It's your choice. Operator873talkconnect 21:25, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- thanks. I put the neutral vote in which section? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:27, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- It should most likely go in the Comments section since that is the best fit. Operator873talkconnect 21:28, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
