Machida (町田市, Machida-shi) is a Japanese city in the western part of the greater metropolis of Tokyo, Japan.[1] It is in the Tsurumigawa River basin.[2]

The city was founded on February 1, 1958.

Before 1965, Machida was a group of farm villages near Tokyo.[3]
