Sakura Wars (2019) (新サクラ大戦, Shin Sakura Taisen) Is the sixth main entry game in the Sakura Wars franchise. The game was released in Japan and Asia on December 12th, 2019 and North America and Europe on April 28th, 2020 for the Sony Playstation 4.

Unlike the previous mainline Sakura Wars games, which were developed by Red Company and Overworks, Sakura Wars (2019) was developed internally by SEGA. It is the first game to not have any creative oversight by Oji Hiroi, with only Kohei Tanaka returning to compose the soundtrack.

The combat stage is a hack 'n slash action battle system in which you play as the Flower Division against demonic forces. Each flower division member has a unique weapon and different abilities that can radically change the combat experience.

Story[]

Sakura Wars (2019) takes place in Taisho Era 29 (1940), twelve years after the events of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love. Ten years before the events of the story, an event known as the Great Demon War devastated the Combat Revues of Tokyo, Paris, and New York, and their members have been missing since. In the aftermath, new combat revues were founded by various countries and the WLOF (World Luxury Operatic Federation) to defend against continuing Demonic invasions.

Every two years, the various revues come together to compete in the Combat Revue World Games, a performance and combat based tournament to show effectiveness in entertaining and defending the general public.

In the Imperial Capital, Tokyo, former Imperial Navy Captain Seijuro Kamiyama has been tasked with leading the Flower Division of the new Imperial Combat Revue. Not only must he fight against the threat of the demonic forces, but he also must help bring the Grand Imperial Theater back to its former glory by winning the Combat Revue World Games.

Gameplay[]

Like the previous entries in the series, Sakura Wars (2019) was built as a Dramatic Adventure Game with the player not only fighting enemies but also interacting with their team. In the adventure stage, you can freely explore the Grand Imperial Theatre and the city of Tokyo and interact with various characters throughout the city. During conversation, the player is able to the LIPS system to make choices for what to say in the conversation leading to different responses which can either raise or lower affection towards the player.
