~ The Shadow outright admits he relished in other people's suffering to Hazel before torturing her and murdering her. |
The Shadow, also known as the Bogeyman or the Devil, is the main antagonist of the creepypasta story The Devil Of Los Angeles trilogy and its upcoming sequel Samhain.
He's the true split personality of Joseph. Unlike the other self, he's nothing but a psychopathic, infamous serial killer who kills and tortures people for no reason other than to relish in other people's suffering.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General/Past[]
- Despite his name being "the Shadow", there was no indication he was made of evil.
- Although he didn't show any facial emotions and almost always remained silent, he had a clear personality and he showed an immense amount of sadism in his actions, showing he had both moral agency and awareness of his actions as he drew a smiling face on the wall in Chapter 3, highlighting his sadistic nature.
- He displayed intelligence when he dropped water near the stairs which led to Hazel's fall and made it easy to catch her. As well as sneaking into houses without almost anyone noticing.
- Takes control over Joseph's body and likely traps Joe somewhere where he can't get back to the control.
- The first two victims he killed were a man and dog (implied to be Eleanor's father) in front of Eleanor, making him directly responsible for Eleanor's trauma.
- Upon escaping from the Asylum, he murdered 15 people, later he made his way to trying to kill Joseph's sister Wren and his newborn niece Daisy, only to be trapped in a house by Wren, with the explosion leading to his presumed death.
- He had no problem harming children or killing them, as he tried to kill Daisy, who was just a newborn,
- His willingness to harm or kill children is further emphasized by torturing and murdering Chelsea, who was only 8 years old.
- Overall, while Joseph was a tragic scapegoat that didn't want to do anything wrong, the Shadow was a vile, inhumanly evil, and sadistic monster who is described as the devil and evil rather than a human due to it feeling little to no remorse for anyone he harmed or killed just to satisfy his bloodlust and sadistic nature.
The Devil Of Los Angeles (Chapter 1)[]
- He possibly stalked Eleanor. Broke into the house to write his niece's name in Eleanor's room, then chased and murdered Eleanor in a forest by stabbing her throat and tilting his head (possibly enjoying senior) when he noticed Wren driving in the road. He follows where she is going, possibly planning to try to kill her again.
The Devil Of Los Angeles (Chapter 2)[]
- He stalked and murdered Arthur and Roma when they entered an old orphanage (possibly where Joe hid himself for 7 years) by snapping Arthur's neck and arm and gouging out Roma's eyes which ended up killing him. He tries to kill Sebastian before Sebastian stabs him and manages to escape the orphanage. While the three were working for an unnamed crime lord Roma and Arthur didn't deserve to die in brutal ways.
- The part where he left Sebastian before murdering Roma and Arthur implied that he wanted to lure Sebastian to kill him, possibly trying to kill him again after Sebastian escaped.
The Devil Of Los Angeles (Chapter 3)[]
- It is revealed at the beginning of part 3 that he tortured and massacred the Whitlock family by using fire two days ago before the story events, including 8-year-old Chelsea Whitlock, while it was done off-screen, the news and reports described in such vivid detail that it wasn't offscreen villainy, especially Joe removing Chelsea's eyes, cutting her tongue out, and putting a pumpkin on her head, leaving scars and injuries on Whitlock's family.
- He stalked Hazel when she went out of Club. He then put a drawing of Chelsea with details of her after death with removed eyes. He implied to taunt Hazel and drew a smiling face on her living room wall. He then managed to catch Hazel and torture and murder her off-screen by electric shock, putting knives on her back and carving a Glasgow smile into her cheeks, leaving some signs of her torture on her, so he could make Wren upset and later cry, which he succeeded so.
Trivia[]
- Due to the Samhain series being currently upcoming, it was unknown if it would affect his PE status or make him even worse.
- It was announced that the trilogy and the series are receiving a prequel called Murphy: Resurrection where the Shadow would return as the main antagonist, which might explore his heinous standards.
- XRayaneGamer55X confirmed in Discord that upon the Samhain release, it would be part of Supernatural as fanfic, which took place 3 years later after season 9, which means the Shadow would also exist in the same universe, although it's likely that the Shadow would have still qualified as Pure Evil because he had lower resources than other villains such as Lucifer, Alastair and Lilith.
- Furthermore, he surpassed Jeffrey in terms of body count and heinousness.
- Coincidentally, he shared the name of another Pure Evil.
