Claiming his innocence, Vince Harper states that on the night of the murder his gun had been taken from him by a saloon girl named Laura Coleman, who seems to have disappeared soon after the trial. Arriving in town at the same time is the prison guard Captain, looking to take Harper back to prison dead or alive, preferably dead.
