Beyond Chivalry… Aiming to Be a Leek Master! (Japanese: めざせネギマスター!つらぬけ騎士道(きしどう)!!, HepburnMezase Negi Master! Tsuranuke Kishidou!!trans. Aim to Be a Leek Master! Go Through the Path of Chivalry!!) is the 12th episode of Pocket Monsters (2019 series), and Pokémon Journeys: The Series of Pokémon Journeys: The Series.

Synopsis[]

The Pokémon World Coronation Series is in high gear, and Ash has been training harder than ever! He and Goh have a practice battle, then head to the Pokémon Center. There, they run into Rinto, who defeated Ash in an earlier bout and has since moved up into the Great Class. Ash challenges Rinto to an official battle: a rematch between Farfetch’d and Gallade! Farfetch’d has a shaky start, but Ash prompts it to remember the training they received from Wikstrom. After embracing a new strategy, Farfetch’d evolves into Sirfetch’d, then defeats Gallade—and Ash’s World Coronation Series ranking shoots up to 184![1]

Episode plot[]

Farfetch'd and Scizor are seen sparring at Cerise Park. After seeing Farfetch'd and Scizor sparring match, Grookey shows its interest in battling, which Goh likes to see for it. Upon seeing their exhausted Pokémon, Ash and Goh take their Pokémon to the Pokémon Center in order to heal them. While heading over to the Pokémon Center, the Pokémon sense something moving in the bushes; a wild Bellsprout appears, completely exhausted and on the verge of collapse. Seeing this, Grookey grabs its drum and begins playing it, revitalizing the Pokémon. Goh was surprised when Grookey took a Poké Ball from his pocket but understands that Bellsprout wants to join them because they saved its life, then happily catches it.

At the Pokémon Center, Ash and Goh received their healed Pokémon, but Ash brings out Farfetch'd as he's happy that he's feeling better. However, Ash gets a World Coronation Series alert as he sees that Rinto and his Gallade are in the Great Class. Ash greets Rinto then finds out that the reason why he didn't appear on his Rotom Phone before was because he wasn't in the same class with him. Due to being in the same class, Ash challenges Rinto to battle, which he accepts, then uses the same Pokémon they did in their last battle. During the battle, Ash's Farfetch'd and Rinto's Gallade seem to be evenly matched in strength, but Rinto believes that Farfetch'd needs more training in being in sync. During the battle, Gallade slices Farfetch'd's leek in half, devastating him. However, Ash tells him to use the halves as a sword and shield, using Wikstrom's Aegislash as an example.

Realizing that Ash's is right, Farfetch'd picked up his broken off leek and continues on battling Gallade, using the halves for both offense and defense. However, Gallade overwhelms Farfetch'd in the process, who sends him flying towards Ash. However, Farfetch'd refuses to give up and continues fighting with Ash's encouragement, landing some critical hits in the process. Before Gallade could counterattack, Farfetch'd inexplicably evolves, surprising everyone as he turns into Sirfetch'd.

With renewed strength, Sirfetch'd resumes his offensive. Rinto orders Gallade to lower his guard to activate Justified to increase his attack before the two order their Pokémon to use Night Slash; however, Sirfetch'd's attack proves to be more powerful and sends Gallade tumbling, causing it to faint. Ash wins the battle and has his rank increase. He then shakes hands with Rinto, who thanks Ash for the battle and promises to get stronger. While walking back to Cerise Laboratory, Goh comments that Farfetch'd evolving into Sirfetch'd was because he wanted to protect Ash and Wikstrom pointed out that protecting others is part of chivalry. Sensing a car about to hit a puddle, Sirfetch'd put himself in the way of puddle so he would get wet instead of Ash, which causes Goh to tell his friend that he protected him again.
