Rain is a weather condition introduced in Generation II.
Description[]
The weather condition causes a rainfall that is much like those in real life. Rain can occur in battle by using Rain Dance (TM18) or the Drizzle Ability. Rain is one of the less harmful weather conditions, since it does not directly damage any Pokémon in between turns in battle, and most of its effects involve enhancing both moves and Pokémon of the Water type.
A stronger variation of this weather, heavy rain, is brought about by the ability Primordial Sea. This weather condition also temporarily appears in the overworld in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire when Primal Kyogre is awakened. However, after it is calmed down at the Cave of Origin, the affected overworld areas revert to their normal states.
Effects[]
- Powers up Water-type attacks by 1.5.
- Powers down Fire-type attacks by 1.5.
- Castform's Forecast ability changes its type to Water.
- Thunder always hits and can break Protect.
- Solar Beam requires an extra turn to charge, and its power is reduced to half.
- The Damp Rock increases the duration of the rain anywhere between three to five turns.
Abilities[]
These Abilities are affected by rain:
- Drizzle: Summons rain that lasts the entire battle, unless another weather condition is introduced to the battlefield or its effect is nullified by Cloud Nine or the Air Lock abilities.
