In the years since I created the first version of this page, around 2010, the OEIS has grown enormously, and no short summary can do it justice. In a sense, the whole world is now our community. The database is currently being consulted a million times a day, with about 130,000 distinct users per month. This is our community of users. There are about thirteen thousand registered users, and this number grows every day as more and more people hear about the OEIS. This is our community of contributors.
The database now (in October 2024) contains over 375,000 entries, and presently grows at about ten thousand new sequences each year. There are usually 100 or more new contributions each day - besides submissions of new sequences, there are rather more updates, consisting of corrections, comments, new contexts for existing sequences, new formulas, new computer programs, new references, and so on. This vast flow of daily submissions is handled by the editors, all volunteers. There are nearly 200 associate editors, and about thirty editors-in-chief who make the final decision about acceptance or rejection. Rejections are much less common than acceptances. But the bulk of the work of the editors consists of reviewing and usually improving the definitions, both mathematically and grammatically, with similar attention to the comments, the formulas, the computer programs, the references, and so on. The full list (of both Associate Editors and Editors-in-Chief) can be found by going to the list of registered users and looking for the words Associate Editor and Editor-in-Chief. This is our community of editors.
The OEIS has been cited over 11,000 times in the scientific literature, very often by authors who thank us and say that their work would not have been possible without the OEIS, or that their theorem would not have been discovered without the help of the OEIS. The full list of citations can be seen here. This is our community of grateful users.
The intellectual property of the OEIS is owned by The OEIS Foundation Inc. The Officers of the Foundation are Russ Cox (President), Alexander Healy (Secretary), Marc LeBrun (Vice President), Robert Roy Price (Treasurer), and myself (Chair). Two other Trustees have important roles: Harvey P. Dale is in charge of legal matters, and Sean A. Irvine of accepting registered users. The full list of Trustees can be seen here. This is our community of governance.
Finally, maybe the most important group of all, are our donors, without whom the OEIS could not operate. Treasurer Robert Roy Price is in charge of donations, and he is especially busy during our annual end-of-year fund-raising drive. Of course donations are welcome at any time of year: to make a donations, please visit the OEIS Foundation website. The full list of donors can be seen here. This is our community of support.
It is worth mentioning that the whole OEIS community is an unusually friendly place, with a strong collegiate atmosphere. I'm continually impressed by how thorough and helpful the editors are.
Neil J. A. Sloane (Chair), October 16 2024.
