Chozen Toguchi was the main antagonist of The Karate Kid Part II and a tritagonist in Cobra Kai.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Season 3[]
- He felt great shame and regret for his actions in the second movie to the point where he became suicidal. While his uncle was able to help him recover from these tendencies, his regret stayed with him even all those years later in Cobra Kai.
- Despite having feelings for Kumiko leading up to Cobra Kai, he never acts on them due to how remorseful he felt over his past treatment of her.
- When he discovers Daniel has visited Okinawa, while somewhat hostile, he apologizes to Daniel for his actions in the past and wants to make amends (even paying for Daniel's drink).
- While he was hesitant to show Daniel the aggressive side of Miyagi-Do karate, believing he's a foreigner to it, he comes around after bonding with him over their shared love for their masters' karate, eventually showing him the techniques and giving him the scroll (techniques that saved Daniel's life later on in the season).
- When Daniel forgives him for his actions in his youth, it meant a great deal to him.
Seasons 4 & 5[]
- Upon hearing a distress call from Daniel about the actions of Terry Silver and Cobra Kai, despite it not being his fight, he drops everything to leave Okinawa and help restore Miyagi's honor.
- He acts as a spy amongst the Cobra Kai senseis to discover what Silver is planning to do.
- Despite only teaching at Cobra Kai as a spy, he gives Tory some genuinely helpful advice in dealing with her emotions after the knowledge that Silver cheated started to affect her ability.
- When Daniel becomes aggressive toward Stingray due to the torment he had received from Silver, Chozen attempts to calm him down, telling him he's not himself.
- When Daniel is ready to throw in the towel in the karate war, he tries to convince him not to give up, and when Daniel apologizes for wasting his time, he assures him that helping a friend is never a waste of time.
- After Daniel is brutally beaten by Silver, he goes with Johnny to confront the man face-to-face.
- He helps rebuild Miyagi-Fang karate in order to convince Daniel to come back.
- He teaches his students a lesson about teamwork that soon helps them with exposing Silver later in the season.
- While he appears to be lethal, when he has the opportunity to kill Silver, he doesn't take it, which surprises Silver himself (this may have been out of respect for Daniel, which is what the writers are claiming outside of the show).
Season 6[]
- His advise to Johnny to embrace Miyagi-Do works when Johnny decided not to assault the agent realtor when meeting him again at another house they were checking out.
- He stops a boxer from running off.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite shedding most of his corrupting qualities, he's still aggressive and reckless, such as when attacking Mike Barnes' employees, and attacking Terry Silver while drunk. However, this is a minor prevention since Silver deeply hurt Daniel and Mike with his actions, and the three of them knew that he needed to go down, no matter the cost.
Trivia[]
- He and Miguel Diaz are currently the only two characters in The Karate Kid franchise to be Near Pure Good.
