“ Behold, the mighty grizzly! „
~ Boog's catchphrase

Boog is the main protagonist of the Open Season franchise, serving as the protagonist of the first and third films and the deuteragonist of the second film and one of two main protagonists (alongside Elliot) of the fourth film. He is Elliot's best friend, Ranger Beth's former pet and adoptive son, Ursa's boyfriend, Giselle's brother-in-law, and Gisela, Giselita, and Elvis' adoptive uncle.

In the first film, he is voiced by Martin Lawrence, who also played Malcolm Turner in Big Momma's House. In the second film, he is voiced by Mike Epps. In the third film, he is voiced by Matthew J. Munn, who also voices Doug. In the fourth film, he is voiced by Donny Lucas.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • He untied Elliot from Shaw's truck saving the deer from his wrath.
  • Although he was angry with Elliot for the rest of the first film and even fought him physically, it was justified since Elliot got him in trouble with Sheriff Gordy in the minimart and got him separated from Timberline and his loving owner, Ranger Beth by interrupting his show and making everyone think Boog was killing Elliot, all without remorse, and also the fact that he lied about knowing the way back to Timberline. Although, he started to warm up to him in the climax and chose to stay with him and the other forest animals in the ending.
  • Befriended Elliot after realizing how he was treated by the others, and telling him that he's not a loser.
  • Said he was sorry for abandoning Elliot, and the forest critters for flooding the dam causing a huge flood of water.
  • Encouraged the forest critters to fight back against the hunters that were going to hunt them for open season, and became their leader.
  • Defeated Shaw after he thought Elliot died getting shot, and tied him up so he wouldn't shoot any other animals, instead of maiming him to death.
  • In the sequel went on an adventure to find Mr. Weenie after thinking he got kidnapped by his owners to bring him back to the forest.
  • Saved Elliot, and his friends from Fifi going to electrocute them.
  • Saved Roberto from the guards shooting tranquilizer darts.
  • Stopped the Pet Paridisa guards from trying to tranquilize them.
  • Called out Elliot for putting him in danger when he's really supposed to be his best friend, and not a bad friend.
  • Came back to Elliot realizing that friends don't abandon friends.
  • Faced his fears against the werewolf saving Elliot from Shaw once again.
  • Defeated Shaw again after taking a few punches, and kicks from him.
  • Banned open season again once, and for all so no animals get hunted.
  • Subverted all of his egomaniacal qualities in the first film.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Despite shredding most of his corrupting factors from the first film, he still retains some arrogance at times, especially when being called 1200 lbs when he's actually 900 pounds scaring people at Pet Paridisa.
  • He's a bit mischievous at times, especially when Elliot convinced him to come outside trashing the Mini Mart, and scaring the hunters relaxing in the forest telling stories to get some food because he was hungry.
