His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He felt so bad killing an innocent child at Ishval (a war he and most officials were practically tricked into getting into) that he left the war. Later, he'd regret leaving and not standing up against the military for what they were doing on Ishval.
- He helped stop the Ice Alchemist Isaac McDougal' destruction across the city.
- He points out the similarity in the killings of Shou and Nina Tucker with the ones of many state alchemists (wich led to the investigation to correctly presume Scar was the one behind it).
- He saved Edward and Alphonse from Scar, while also confirming he uses alchemy as he was the first one to combat him and survive.
- He escorts Al and Ed to Resembool, and made the bio-alchemist Tim Marcoh reveal what they needed to know about the Philosopher's stone.
- He constantly apologized for being an annoyance while in Winry and Pinako's house, despite being a very polite guest and causing no trouble at all, showing how kind he is.
- While he forced Maria Ross and Denny Brosh into revealing what Ed told them, it was for noble purposes, as he just wanted to help, and promised to keep secrecy as well.
- He became horrified when he discovered human lives were the ingredients needed to make a philosopher's stone.
- He consoled Ed and Al after finding out about the secret.
- He helped deduce the military's experiments involving the Philosopher's Stone were done in the now shut Lab N.5.
- He told Ed and Al not to further investigate the Lab 5's case unless allowed to, though they promptly ignored this advice.
- He escorted Winry to Ed's hospital room.
- He cried a lot in Maes Hughes's funeral, especially after his daughter innocently asked why they were burying her father, showing how much care he holds for his friends.
- He purposefully phrases his refusal to comply in a way that allows Flame Alchemist Roy Mustang to deduce Maes's killer(s) were members of an organization whose existence was already proven, but whose members were still in secrecy.
- He saved Ed, Al and Izumi by using his tracking skills to guide the Furher and his men into the place they were all invading.
- He fought Roa, one of the strongest chimeras in Greed's pack, on his own, to prevent anyone from getting hurt, and won.
- After defeating Roa, who admitted to know Armstrong and admire his actions in Ishval, Armstrong asks him to surrender, preferring never to kill his enemies, only for the ruthless Fuher to appear and strike Roa down.
- Apologizes to the Elric brothers for not telling them of Hughe's death earlier.
- Despite believing her to be innocent, he apologizes for his subordinate', Maria Ross, actions, after she was killed by Roy Mustang for killing Maeas Hughes (though he was unaware Mustang framed her death and saved her).
- He purposefully damaged Ed's automail to have an excuse to go to the East after Mustang secretly told him to, where they, through Ling Yao's agent named Han, found a very alive Maria Ross, who explained everything and put them on par with the situation.
- Despite wanting to, he hid from Sargent Denny Brosh, a very close friend of Maria, about the fact she was alive, since he hides his emotions poorly, and could warn the enemy of that fact.
- He held Hawkeye's place as she went to the bathroom.
- He expressed disgust at the military's true purpose, and stated all he wanted when he got into it was to protect the people of his country.
- He told Ed where to find May Chang, wielder of a technique called Alkahestry, that he and Al wanted to investigate.
- He sends a letter telling who the Elric Brothers are to help them as they meet his sister, Oliver Mira Armstrong.
- While he challenged his sister to a duel over the possession of the Armstrong's family heritage, including its mansion, he didn't even use alchemy and barely put up a fight, not wanting to hurt his sister, even though it led to his humiliating defeat.
- He helped save a lot of overrunning civilians and injured soldiers as of the start of the promised day.
- He saved his sister against the Homunculus Sloth, and then started fighting with him.
- Even after many Amestris soldier held Sloth back Armstrong to retreat, he refused to, wanting to protect everyone until he dies.
- After some help from Izumi and her husband, he defeated Sloth for good.
- He used his alchemy to bring several characters up to where Edward, Alphonse, Mei, Izumi and Hohenheim were fighting Father.
- He helped as much as he could in the battle against Father, throwing several alchemy-crafted spears at him to exhaust his philosopher's stone.
- He cheered for Ed while he fought Father along with everyone else.
- He was happy to see Al with his body finally recovered.
- Overall, he has little to no corrupting factors.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite his lack of corrupting qualities, he fails the admirable standards to characters such as the Elric Brothers, Roy Mustang, Riza Hawkeye, and others who did more to help stop the Homunculi.
