"Wikipedia Takes Kollam" is a multi stage photo scavenger hunt set to take place in the city of Kollam, India. This event invites participants from all walks of life, regardless of their photographic skills or prior involvement with Wikimedia or the Kerala Wikimedians User Group.
- Event Goals
The primary aim of this event is to increase the conversion rate of relevant photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. By doing so, we intend to enrich existing Wikipedia articles, especially those related to Kollam and its surroundings, with high-quality images. Additionally, the event seeks to generate new content for the Malayalam Wikipedia by leveraging the photographs captured during the scavenger hunt. Participants will also have the opportunity to record videos, further enhancing the multimedia content available on Wikimedia platforms.
- Participation Details
- Who Can Join: Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you are an experienced photographer or a beginner. You do not need to be a Wikimedian or a member of the Kerala Wikimedians User Group to join the fun.
- What to Expect: Participants will explore various parts of Kollam, capturing photographs and videos of notable landmarks, cultural sites, and everyday scenes. These visuals will then be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, where they can be used to illustrate Wikipedia articles.

As part of OpenStreetMap's birthday, we mapped areas surrounding Ashramam, including the adventure park, the ground, the biodiversity heritage site, and the residency building. A photowalk was also conducted during the event.
