Welcome to Meta!

Hello Jafeluv, and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). If you would like, feel free to ask me questions on my talk page. Happy editing! Cirt (talk) 04:47, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Tusen takk

I'd just like to point out that "Tusen takk!" is more idiomatic.[1] "Tack så mycket!" is common in Swedish. Decltype 21:14, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Ahh, that might be because I only know Swedish :P Languages don't really translate word-for-word, do they? Thanks for the correction. Jafeluv 21:19, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense. I don't think anyone who argue that the two are more or less the same language, have tried writing anything substantial in both :) Decltype 21:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Re:Request

Hi, Jafeluv! I've read the link you gave me and everything was ok. You've done a wonderful job! ;) Regards, --Góngora (TES) 18:48, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Yay! Thanks for having a look. Jafeluv 19:13, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Softredirect

On the Dutch projects we link to a page on nl-wiki about redirects because these projects are in Dutch language and not in English. So please don't touch these templates, we have pages in Dutch ourselves which work perfectly fine and we do not want to be bound to other non-Dutch speaking projects. Thank you! Greetings - Romaine 19:52, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I figured that it would be better to link to a general page instead of a Wikipedia-specific one since there might be issues that are only relevant in Wikipedia but not elsewhere. If you guys prefer to have it on Wikipedia, that's of course fine as well. Cheers, Jafeluv 08:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

I corrected your Dutch text and added some text as well Patio 20:42, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. Jafeluv 08:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Indonesia

Jafe, the words are fine, however the picture is a bit disturbing, we have #Alih instead of redirect. Romaine up there can back me up when I told you I'm not technologically savvy, if you would like to change anything, techy, I think you should talk to someone else in WP ID. Serenity.id 10:18, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for having a look. You're right that the image may not be very helpful since it's in English. I'll remove it from the page. I don't intend to make any technical changes, though. It's just a centralized documentation page for different projects in case they wish to use it. Jafeluv 10:59, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Is there some reason for this? Thanks! SpeedyGonsales 15:48, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi SpeedyGonsales. I simply noticed that the page had been tagged for deletion for almost two months and wanted to help out. The content was just those two words as you can see. How to delete a user page

Hi, I am Henriku, I am active especially on the Upper Sorbian Wp. (hornjoserbsce), sometimes I collaborate on some other projects, last year I have founded the Sardinian Wiktionary. I should like to leave some projects, more concretely the CZECH Wikipedia (česky) and the HEBREW one. I see you have just deleted a user page of a Japanese user, Tiyoringo, on the Upper Sorbian Wp., on his own request. It is for the first time I see a user page deleted. Could you advice me how to proceed in order to leave the two projects, please? What reason should I write into the Delete template? Thank you, --Henriku 16:34, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Henriku. In most projects you can just put the template {{delete}} on your user page if you want to have it removed, and once a sysop comes by they will delete it for you. User talk pages, on the other hand, are not usually deleted without a good reason. The relevant policy in the Czech Wikipedia is here. Jafeluv 16:48, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi Jafeluv, I have put the template on the two user pages. Thank you very much. If I can help you sometime, you are welcome. --Henriku 17:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

--Otrfan 03:32, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

Jafeluv, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

Hi Jafeluv. Turkish wikipedia has reached 150.000 articles. A new and temporary logo was offered for this. The community accepted, but I don't know how to change it. I will appreciate it if you could help. Thanks in advance. --yabancım 10:10, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi! The logo displayed in the top corner is tr:Dosya:Wiki.png. You can upload a new version there. Jafeluv 10:16, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
So that's it? Thanks a lot :) --yabancım 10:20, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
And now I see that didn't work :o It seems to have worked earlier, though (according to the file history). Let me have a closer look... Jafeluv 10:30, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
And I was about to ask you why did that happen. Could it be anything about the job queue? Anyway, I'm waiting for your response. --yabancım 10:37, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
According to this page, changing the Wiki.png file should be enough. I'm not sure that page is very up to date, though. Also, the old version is actually not even identical to the one shown in the top corner (that one looks like tr:Dosya:Wikipedia-logo-v2-tr.png), so there's probably something else that needs to be done... Maybe you should file a request at Bugzilla and ask for the logo to be changed. Jafeluv 10:42, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Do you think I should upload the new logo as a new version of tr:Dosya:Wikipedia-logo-v2-tr.png this time? I thought if that doesn't work, then bugzilla maybe the answer. --yabancım 10:59, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
The requests for logos page suggests uploading the new logo as Wiki.png (which you have done) and then making a Bugzilla request to make the site use that file instead of the default (which I guess is Wikipedia-logo-v2-tr.png). Try making a Bugzilla request, and if the procedure has changed from what's documented on the Meta page I'm sure they'll tell you what to do to get the logo changed. Jafeluv 11:03, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
I will try what you've suggested. The thing is, I did't use bugzilla before. Now I'm creating an account and starting :) Hope it's not complicated. If I succeed, I'll let you know. Thanks a lot again. --yabancım 11:12, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
  • Me again :) I filed a request bugzilla. However the users in tr.wiki have the similar opinion with me about uploading the new file as a new version of tr:Dosya:Wikipedia-logo-v2-tr.png. We could at least try. As an admin in Commons, can you please do that? --yabancım 12:21, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't think reuploading the new version in Commons is a good idea, since the logo is in use in many other projects as well. Replacing it would mean that there would be no way for anyone to use the old version. If you want to try reuploading that file, you could of course do it locally in trwiki under the same name so that it overwrites the Commons file. Jafeluv 12:28, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for my interfering, but IMO it is easier to let an sysop change the pic on the tr.wiki on the main page than reuploading. --WizardOfOz talk 12:58, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, but the image is not defined in the main page code, is it? The top corner image is shown on every page in the wiki, not just the main page. Jafeluv 13:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
You are right, i just saw that is not included and i can´t find it even in the mainpage templates where it can be changed. --WizardOfOz talk 13:12, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Help please re. Renaming

Hi there. I'm having the greatest difficulty in understanding correct protocol for Username renaming. Where do I put in my request for English Wikipedia? I went to Wikipedia:Changing username, but am told specifically on that page to not enter requests there. The only specific direction I see on that page is to put a request on Meta-wiki, which I did, but was then told by you that I need to do it differently. I'm sorry I'm so retarded at this. Can you please help? Thank you! Sayitrecords 19:37, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Don't worry about it, the procedures really are a little confusing. If the username you want to use is not already taken on enwiki, you can post a request at w:Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple (just follow the instructions at the top of the page). Let me know if you need help filling out the request :) By the way, the Meta-Wiki page is only used for projects that do not yet have any users with sufficient rights to perform renames, or if all such users on the project are unavailable. Hope this helps, Jafeluv 14:57, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and it seems to have gone through OK. Do you know how long it will take to confirm? Thanks again! Sayitrecords 03:39, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
It shouldn't take long unless there's some problem with the rename. Just remember to watch the request page in case they need some additional information. Jafeluv 03:57, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok

I'll look, thanks for the inform. es:Magister Mathematicae 19:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Eo.ws request

Hi, Jafe. This pattern (project namespace + "talk" in the local language) is used in many, many projects, and it's the regular form. Maybe we could later use the Vikipedio pattern (namespace with "-a", instead of "-o" + "diskuto"). It would not be a problem, but it has to be a project decision. And a Wikipedia decision is not a Wikisource decision and not a Wikinews decision, and it doesn't apply to them automatically. Note that Wikibooks, Wikiquote and Wiktionary use the regular form. We must decide this in the project, and it's perfectly possible to change it in the future. All we have to do is put a request in bugzilla, after the discussion. And there's no such urgence on it, we'll have many other things to do now (see below). CasteloBrancomsg 23:25, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah, ok. It didn't occur to me to check what the other projects were doing, and it seems that at least Wikiquote and Wiktionary indeed use the -o form. I think the -a form is better grammar, but you're right that this is something that should be discussed in the project :) Jafeluv 23:33, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Fundamento de Esperanto

Jafe, how should we better categorize a multilingual source like that? I couldn't find a solution for this. Do you think we must categorize it as Esperanto source, in order to let it be imported to eo.wikisource? It seems to be more rationale. I can do it by bot/semi-bot, if you agree. CasteloBrancomsg 23:27, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

P.S. I'm talking about the djuv files, because the source itself is already categorized in Esperanto subcategory. Do you think we must import them too? CasteloBrancomsg 23:30, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
It's always difficult with multilingual works... :S The English, French etc. chapters should obviously stay in their subdomains, and the Antaŭparolo is clearly written for an Esperanto speaker so it can be safely moved to eo.wikisource. The Ekzercaro and Vortaro chapters are more complicated, since they have explanations in multiple languages and are meant for someone who speaks one of those languages rather than for an Esperanto speaker... On the other hand it would make no sense to leave them on oldwikisource since all six languages present on the pages already have their own subdomain. Maybe it would be the best solution to just transfer the multilingual chapters to eo.wikisource and link to that page from other projects. Jafeluv 23:42, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Jafe, sorry for the "flood" =). I saw your Vikifontaro logo and I was thinking: is it difficult to do? What software do you use for it? How could you find the correct font type? We also need Esperanto logos for Vikilibroj, Vikicitaro, and now the Vikinovajxoj and I think we should correct this. Again, it don't need to be done right now, it's necessary to discuss it in the projects before making a request for the change in Bugzilla, but I would appreciate your help. CasteloBrancomsg 00:08, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

I used GIMP and the font is bolded Times New Roman. I'm not sure what the "proper" font should be (maybe this? what is it?), but I can redo the logo if someone has a better suggestion :) I'll see what I can do about the other projects. Jafeluv 07:49, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Jafe, this is great! I'll propose it right now. Dankego. CasteloBrancomsg 03:37, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Could you take a look at that? The logo was changed today. The Wikinews was changed, too. Now we have eo-logos in Wikipedia, Wikibooks and Wikinews. The Wikiquote and Wikiversity are missing, and maybe the Wiktionary eo-logo will not be used, because the official logo has changed. But I'm here to thank you very much for your help and support. With eo.wikisource finally approved and almost created (the eo.wikinews took nine days at bugzilla), soon the pages at oldwikisource will be moved, and I hope you keep editing on the proper domain. Hugs, CasteloBrancomsg 02:52, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
That's great. (Maybe I'll try to make something later for Wikiquote as well.) As for Wikisource, it was nice to see they hadn't completely forgotten the request :) Jafeluv 09:09, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Your oppose vote did not give any reasons. Do you mind explaining your reasoning, so I know which areas to address in the future (or so I can provide further explanation for you that might change your mind?) SWATJester Son of the Defender 22:47, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Sure. My oppose was based on the combination of your being monolingual and having somewhat limited crosswiki experience. I can see you're an experienced and trusted user, and monolinguality in itself is not necessarily a deal-breaker for me, but stewards often have to deal with crosswiki issues and it's important that they have enough experience in that sort of work. In any case, good luck in the election! Jafeluv 00:23, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Would you consider swaying your vote if I could assuage the concern about crosswiki experience? Much of my staff and behind-the-scenes volunteer work involves work across various projects (and languages), but isn't necessarily visible by edit counts. If not, I understand. RE: Yes Template

Hi Jafeluv,

I looked at Template:Yes, which states that "Note that in many places, such as Steward requests/Global permissions, the use of this template is reserved for stewards. Feel free to use {{support}} instead." The documentation seems to have been created by yourself, unless you were importing from somewhere/restoring deleted edits? :)

hr wikipedia bot policy clarification

Hello!

I removed this because Laaknor and Rubin16 wrote incorrect information, as at the time we were just discussing "what to do" with bots, so before end of discussion it was simply not true that global bots were allowed (if I recall it correctly).

Wikipedija:Prijedlog_dopune_pravila_dodjele_statusa_botovima is discussion page with voting results at the end (8:7 for allowance of work of global bots - they are allowed to work, 0:14 for allowance of bot status on meta - stewards are not permitted to grant bot status on hr wiki).

Wikipedija:Botovi is both (very short) description of what bots are and what they do, and our bot policy (slightly adapted standard bot policy from meta).

Sorry for delay, if you need more info you know where to ask ;) Kind regards! SpeedyGonsales 21:32, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Alrighty, thanks for the clarification :) Jafeluv 07:28, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jafeluv, I once was corrected by DerHexer, see this difflink. Regards a×pdeHello! 11:39, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Some people feel that steward opinions should be given more weight at SRGP, which is why {{yes}} is reserved for stewards on that page. Some have even suggested that global user rights should not be given out unless the request is endorsed by stewards (see eg. here). I don't agree with this, but respect the consensus that the template can only be used by stewards on that page. However, I don't think anyone considers Meta RfA's to be an area where steward opinion would count more than the average voter. It would make no sense to reserve the use of that or any other template for stewards in local adminship discussions. Jafeluv 11:47, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, i have global bot and i want to run it in template name space is it to change my standard code or its problem is solved? does it need other request?Reza1615 09:36, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Reza1615. According to the policy, you can use your global bot in template namespace if it only fixes interwiki links or double redirects. However, if you intend to do something else than that, you need to apply for a local bot bit and get consensus for the bot task first. Jafeluv 09:55, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi,according to en:Wikipedia:Bot_policy#Interwiki_links . i don't know is interwiki.py at this time is solved this problem or not? and if this standard code is not useful which code i should use for adding interwiki to templates?Reza1615 12:38, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
The problem with iw-linking templates is that you have to make sure that the links are inside <noinclude> tags, otherwise they will appear as interwiki links on every page that transcludes the template. I don't know how pywikipedia deals with the issue, though -- you could try asking someone who runs a pywikipedia bot, maybe. Jafeluv 12:42, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Klopaalipanna

Moikka! --Pxos (talk) 17:19, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Moi! Joo itsekin suunnittelin että pitää kysyä joltain toista mielipidettä tuohon termiin. Ehkä kielto on havainnollisempi termi tuossa yhteydessä. Jafeluv (talk) 03:42, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Kielessämme on tiettyä köyhyyttä kyllä, täytyy valittaa. Vissiin koko yleiskiellon käyttöönotostakin on meneillään keskustelua, mutta jos täällä kaikki itseä vähänkin kiinnostavat keskustelut yrittäisi lukea, pitäisi lopettaa työnteko ja nukkuminen, jotta pysyisi ajan hermolla siitä sun tästä. Heh. --Pxos (talk) 21:44, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Glo-boll

Moi!

Jafeluv (talk) 21:43, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
(This is the source language, nothing can be done.) --Pxos (talk) 22:50, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I've been thinking about it, mainly because I occasionally have to ask for spam blacklistings. Fundraising translation feedback

Hey Jafeluv,

I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Finnish using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Many Thanks

Global userpages

Moi! Esimerkiksi suomenkielisessä Wikiaineistossa on aktiivisten käyttäjien listalla [10] näitä kotisivutehtailijoita. Mielummin omat sivut voisi pyytää luotavaksi sellaisiin projekteihin, joissa on itse edes vähän mukana. Mikä pakko niitä on kaikkialle tunkea? --Pxos (talk) 18:11, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Käyttäjäsivujen massaluonti puolestaan hoituu kätevästi nykyään käyttämällä sivun User:PiRSquared17/Global UP ohjeita, koska synchbotissa on aikamoinen jono.

--Pxos (talk) 22:45, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, i have added malikoki.info domain to COIBot monitor list per your request. This user is adding them. It's removed by local users, this is just FYI. Thanks--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 18:49, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Globalistin ja stevarin ero?

Terse! --Pxos (talk) 12:34, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Moi! Kyllä ylivalvojat voivat auttaa pienten wikien ylläpidossa ihan samalla lailla kuin GS:tkin. Itse asiassa koko käyttäjäryhmä perustettiin nimenomaan vähentämään ylivalvojien työtaakkaa – aiemminhan stuertit hoitivat kaikki ylläpitotehtävät wikeissä joilla ei ole omia aktiivisia ylläpitäjiä. Eli ylivalvojilla on kyllä oikeus tehdä kaikkea mitä globaaleilla ylläpitäjilläkin. Jafeluv (talk) 18:44, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
