Citation tool for mk.wiki

[edit]
Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T165290

Hello Elitre. I am a bureaucrat on mk.wiki and our community sorely needs the VisualEditor Citation tool installed, as the old one does not function. If we are to switch to this tool, I see that we have to make a number of installations and/or imports (described on the above linked page). The trouble is that neither I, nor anyone on our wiki has any idea how to do such things. We have tried and failed. Could someone help us with installing and importing all those things for us, and consult us on the specifics of our wiki or template names? We would greatly appreciate such help, as we have no other way of doing this ourselves. --B. Jankuloski (talk) 07:44, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, B. Jankuloski. Thanks for your request. We have a number of pages describing how things should be done, so it would be useful to understand where specifically you are encountering difficulties. From what I see the order of the steps for your wiki right now should be: adding TemplateData to your main templates (in this context, you want to start with the main Cite ones, and there's usually only 4 of them or even less), then create the Cite menu, and finally adding Citoid. The related pages are listed in order from mw:Help:VisualEditor/VE_as_the_main_editor#Make_sure_main_templates_feature_TemplateData_information. Looking at how others did the same thing in the past can help - sometimes it's really a matter of copying and adapting a bit. I will also post a message on the taskforce talk page to see whether someone can follow you more closely. Let me know how work proceeds. Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:55, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
(proper ping, B. Jankuloski --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:57, 15 May 2017 (UTC))Reply
B. Jankuloski, User:Ehrlich91, see my edits here. I created the Cite menu and the templatedata for the Cite web template simply by copying from the English Wikipedia. You may want to do the same for the other 3 main Cite templates, doc, journal and book (if they are all used at your wiki). After this, we can proceed by enabling Citoid. Your wiki has Flagged Revisions enabled, and you are the ultimate experts in your language, so local community members need to be involved for further refining and improving. HTH. --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 09:08, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Elitre (WMF): I saw edits on our home wiki, thank you for this. I got confused with other links and I thought that is harder than this (sorry for that), so I will continue editing these templates, looking on English Wikipedia and other language versions. Thank you once again, I already can see that is working on Visual Editor. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 15:38, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Elitre (WMF): Thank you very much, Erica! I have now translated all, so they are ready to use. May I ask whether this page is also to be translated, or it should completely stay as it is? Cheers --B. Jankuloski (talk) 09:56, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. So that page doesn't need to be translated, it only defines which templates are to appear in the Cite menu, so make sure those are actually the ones you want. Next steps should be mw:Citoid/Enabling_Citoid_on_your_wiki#Step_2:_Configure_Citoid. Have you checked that all the TemplateData for those template also contain citoid maps? Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 10:14, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Bjankuloski06: I have also imported the templatedata from en wiki to https://mk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BD:%D0%9D%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%B5%D0%B4%D1%83%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%9A%D0%B5/doc, once that is approved we can add the https://mk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B8%D1%98%D0%B0%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8:Citoid-template-type-map.json to enable citoid. Done @Mvolz (WMF): Approved! Thank you, and let me know what is to be done next. --B. Jankuloski (talk) 09:09, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Bjankuloski06: next we need to create https://mk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B8%D1%98%D0%B0%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8:Citoid-template-type-map.json Here is what the en wiki one looks like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Citoid-template-type-map.json . We just need to copy it but swap out the en template names for the mk ones. Mvolz (WMF) (talk) 09:16, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done @Mvolz (WMF): Filled in now. --B. Jankuloski (talk) 10:06, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Bjankuloski06: Great! I have tried out the tool. I noticed that when I inserted a website it didn't work well (lots of parameters missing) and so I noticed that the copied template data doesn't always match the actual parameters in the template. These will probably need more work. For instance, I made these changes to Cite web: https://mk.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BD:%D0%9D%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B0_%D0%BC%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B6%D0%BD%D0%B0_%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0/doc&oldid=3595441&diff=cur
As you can see, the parameters access-date and website were actually wrong, the template itself doesn't have those parameters. Instead they are called accessdate and work. So when you try to insert a template, it will insert the wrong parameters and they won't get rendered. There are actually a lot of parameters in the templatedata that was copied that are either different or don't exist in the actual template. These need to be fixed or removed from the templatedata. About Elitre (WMF)/Wikidata editing announcement

[edit]

Hi, Elitre! I already translated what you requested. If you need any other translation or help on that subject, just let me know!

Unfortunately I won't go to Montreal this year: I didn't get a scholarship and I haven't a Canadian visa. I wanted to go to the Wikidata event in Berlin in October, but I'm getting out of a surgery (nothing big, Thank God) and I found out late from the scholarships ...

I hope to go to WMCON next year ... If you attend, see you there!

Regards!

Ah, decisamente! In effetti mi suonava strano "allenamento", ma era l'unica cosa che mi veniva in mente (mannaggia) :D--ƒringio · 13:21, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Scrivo qui perché non so a chi possa interessare.

  • molto spesso il collegamento di modifica sezione con VE contiene la sigla "VE", non so quanto sia comprensibile per gli utenti;
