Valerian was a former Federation planet in the Gamma Arietis system, located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.

History and specifics[]

Valerian was orbited by three moons, one of which had a ring system. The planet appeared to support dense jungles, though that could have been projected by native Kuwalden using matter-transmuting caps. Kuwaldens claimed that the "real land" had a purple sky, green clouds, and thick mobile vines.

Geodesic dome

Colonists' geodesic dome residence.

At some point, a group of Kuwalden refugees settled on Valerian, wanting only to be left alone. In the late 23rd century, the Kuwalden were distressed when 12 Andorians and one human built a ruby-colored geodesic dome on the surface. Kuwalden infected the colonists with a virus that turned them into trolls.

In 2274, a landing party from the Federation starship USS Enterprise discovered the trolls while visiting the planet for routine medical checkups and supply renewals. The colonists were cured and relocated to another planet. The Kuwalden refugees were left alone per their request, and Captain James T. Kirk expected that Starfleet would quarantine the world. (TOS comic: "There's No Space Like Gnomes'!")
