The USS Malinche (NCC-38997) was a 24th century Federation starship, an Excelsior-class exploration cruiser in Starfleet service from the 2360s[2] to the 2410s[1] decades. (DS9 episode: "For the Uniform")

Service history and disposition[]

USSMalinche

The Malinche in 2373.

By 2363, the Malinche was under the command of Captain George Sanders. (TNG novel: The Buried Age)

In mid-2373, the Malinche was assigned to patrol the Demilitarized Zone near the Gamma 7 Outpost. When Maquis leader Michael Eddington disabled the USS Defiant with a cascade virus, the Malinche towed that ship back to Deep Space 9, and assumed their mission to stop Eddington at Veloz Prime. However, they responded to a distress call en route, only to discover a Maquis booby trap. The disabled Malinche was then rescued by the Defiant, which eventually succeeded in apprehending Eddington. (DS9 episode: "For the Uniform")

Malinche-Badlands

The Malinche in the Badlands.

In 2410, Commander Mesi Achebe led the ship and coordinated the Khitomer Alliance task force in the Badlands when Admiral Leeta and the Terran Empire attempted another invasion. Achebe advised the Allied captains how to engage the Terran forces and disable their space stations and satellites. (STO - Victory Is Life mission: "Badlands Battlezone")

First Splinter timeline[]

In 2376, the Malinche relieved the USS da Vinci from clean-up operations on the Tellarite colony of Maeglin following the Gateways Crisis. (SCE eBook: Here There Be Monsters)

In early 2380, Admiral William Ross considered sending the Malinche to the Romulan border. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

On stardate 58199.3, during the Borg Invasion of February 2381, the Malinche was to join the fleet led by the USS Venture defending the Andorian system, but their route allowed them to intercept the Borg in interstellar space. The Malinche was destroyed during its engagement with the six cubes. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
