"The Mirror War, Issue 2" is the third issue of IDW Publishing's comic miniseries The Mirror War. It was released on 3 November 2021.

Description[]

Return to the mirror universe of The Next Generation with this brand-new series from writers David & Scott Tipton! When one of Picard's secret supply caches is raided by "The Obnoxious Okona"—putting an obstacle in the way of the crew getting to Faundori—the captain vows revenge. Meanwhile, Worf remains on their trail…

Summary[]

Among the captains of the Terran Empire, it is standard practice to turn a portion of their bounties over to the Imperial Quartermaster, to keep good standing. But most of it, unable to fit on a ship or a starbase and with the captains unwilling to trust the banks, is hidden in various caches scattered throughout the empire. And on Tyraeus 2, Jean-Luc Picard leads his crew to one of his. After killing their way through the local fauna, the crew opens the vault only to find it empty save one note. A mocking note from the thief responsible: The Obnoxious Okona.

Nearby, aboard the IKS Negh'Var, Regent Worf is informed that his missing bounty of dilithium is likely in the nearby Tyraeus system, warping in and opening firing on the ISS Enterprise-D. Though Data and Reginald Barclay have a tense relationship at the helm, the Enterprise is able to give herself some breathing room, warping off to safety for repairs.

Unbeknownst to either party, the whole battle had been observed by the Denorios and Benjamin Sisko's crew. Convinced that there is no immediate benefit to involving themselves, Sisko orders the ship away. When Ro Laren questions this, given that they could have been heroes for helping the Regent, Sisko reminds her that they are operating at the behest of the Intendent. They act when she says so.

As the Enterprise licks her wounds, William T. Riker blames this fiasco on Data and Barclay's now frosty relationship. The Inquisitor explains that Data is still processing Barclay's betrayal. Riker simply orders her to teach Data how to deal with it as he takes him and Barclay off the duty rosters before amusedly turning to Beverly Crusher healing Wesley's wounds and the doctor's belief that the hunt for Okona is about the captain's wounded ego.

Performing long-range scans, Wesley deduces where Okona likely is: Port Charybdis, an old Terran Empire station that was abandoned during the fall and has now become a haven for lowlives. Seven hours later, Riker and Data board the station and, after some aggressive negotiations, are pointed in Okona's direction.

In the Chandler Asteroid Belt in Sector 22694, Okona opens his vault to find it empty, Picard, Data, Riker and Geordi La Forge waiting for him. Having already reclaimed his riches, Picard forces Okona into the vault before breaking the door controls and destroying Okona's shuttle.

Soon after, the Enterprise arrives in deep space and is greeted by a star-jelly. Years ago, when aboard the ISS Stargazer, Picard chanced across the entity who agreed to hold onto some of his valuables in exchange for energy. After it is sated, the star-jelly accepts the goods retrieved from Okona and vanishes. As the Enterprise jumps to Faundori, the Negh'Var warps in, Worf swearing that he will have his revenge.
